  1. It just means that those who prefer the western lifestyles and can`t tolerate the average Thai foods must expect to pay more,

Indeed, my excellent chap, however getting a whacking salary/package is part of the joy of being here for me; I don't have to spend time hunting down 69/99B breakfasts or hanging around for the change either...nor do I have to wax lyrical about the 'joys' of filth filled 30B Noodle soup.....

  2. I too have a degree but in Psychocology. Being a native English speaker, which it appears you are, you can take your diploma to any school and require or ask politely they give you a job teaching English. Physcology, I think, will qualify you to teach English in a massage school, where you can excel in teaching 'hands on' English, ... or Aussie, or whoever presents himself. But here's the rub: you can't take a job that a Thai can do.

"Being a native English speaker, which it appears you are, you can take your diploma to any school and require or ask politely they give you a job teaching English. "

    The mind boggles.

Maybe it can help you out..? boggling indeed.....

  3. Immigration in Chiang Mai have always, without exception, been friendly and polite to me and my family.

Indeed Brad but maybe you are here legally and 'transparently' as it were i.e. you have a job and the income/documentation to support your immigration status here....

We are talking about English breakfasts. Bacon, eggs and sausages. Thais don't try to scam their customers either by selling for 24 baht or 29 baht.

I doubt whether it is even possible to buy these ingredients for 69 baht or 99 baht, let alone buy for those prices in a cafe.

It`s a grander life here for those who can adapt to the Thai lifestyles.

Well BJ the quality of the ingredients has been brought into question. I wonder what they make those loo-chins out of?

Thems what think that they have become 'Thai' will eat any bowl of 30B slop to try and reinforce their self imagined metamorphosis from low paid TEFL teacher to self styled "Pillar of the community"..you couldn't make it up unless you are one of them that puts 'POLICE" stickers on your car.....

I need a wee but am laughing so much now; at Mr 'I eat Noodle Soup so I am more Thai than you"........I bet he runs around 'wai-ing' everyone in sight as soon as he sees another White man near him to show how 'Thai' he has become.....

  5. It`s a grander life here for those who can adapt to the Thai lifestyles.

Indeed, but unlike you, in all your self imagined Thainess, Some folks can't all metamorphasise into Thais and prefer to eat what we know to break our fasts of a morning.

I used to enjoy the Noodles of a morning until it became like planning an invasion of Eastern Europe just to get a bowl of Noodle soup how I like it.

"Khao Tom Moo" was a better option but seems on the wane in popularity these days....

  6. Before too many 'Nomads' get carried away by wildly excited thoughts of 'bargains'; few places offer free wi-fi for their 69/99B and expect you to sod orf once you've done eating or before virulent food poisoning kicks in and you pooh your lycra shorts, (and that includes time spent waiting for your 1B change).

  7. I think 'Fitfarang' isn't telling all here.

Either put the trip on hold until your 'student loan days' are behind you or you start to get more hits on your blog/you tube, get this 'well paid 'office worker' to dip her hand in her pocket. I'm sure she'd relish the chance to show she's not a 'farang money chaser' like those nasty bar girls.

There is no point in posting for advice, giving only a fraction of the truth, leaving people to work in the dark, then getting arsey over people's speculations and reading between the lines......

So, come on, as Sherlock Holmes would say ''give us ALL the facts, omit no detail no matter how small'' and then we'll see what we can do for you. I smell a troll pretending to have an income and a 'real' girlfriend here, hoping to get the chance to have a pop at the 'sad old men' with regular and decent incomes here....

  8. Lots of big talk here about dealing with so called IRA scum and what you would do with them. Why don't your bring this topic up with the next Irish man you meet and see what answer you get. There are plenty of Irish bars in Thailand where your bound to find a paddy. Go in and give it to the so called scum. And when your at it you might even find one of those jihadi scum who blew up your London buses. That would even be easier than finding an Irish man.

I saw a former UK Marine do just this one night to some 'Irish' prat (with a Manc accent (?) who claimed he was IRA) who'd been drunkenly spouting Anti-British crap for the best part of an hour in a British bar on Sukhumwit late one night until one lad had heard enough and invited the lad to take his nonsense out into the soi.

He maybe thought because most of the blokes in the pub were older than him they'd be intimidated by his cheap tattoos, bald head, fat gut and PHd in talking B*llocks.

He was called 'Mick' too funnily enough.....

Though He wasn't too keen to carry on the 'discussion' when invited out in the soi by this marine who would be joined by a few other rather pee'd off ex servicemen/Brits who'd been putting up with his drivel for a while; in fact; I rather fancy 'Mick' then did a pooh in his pants, paid his bill, ran off into the first cab he could grab so that somewhat undermines your silly post....

Maybe being an 'IRA terrorist' is this year's "I was in the SAS but can't talk about it...." trend of BS to hit the expat bars of Thailand for 2015.....?

  9. I'd say the public (Government) bus heading to the Southern Bus terminus then taxi to Banglamphu would be your best bet. Get off near the Pinklao Bridge (ask the attendant for 'Saphan Pinklao') from where it's a 5 minute nip in a taxi.

Make sure you get a first Class bus ( they usually have ป.1 printed on the side) as there are 'lesser' buses which stop at every ***&&&** lamp post, get rammed full and can take several hours more than the first class bus which takes around 2/2.5 hours.

  10. I get the feeling that to them a law is just there to stop them doing what they want. They don't see laws as a set of rules for people to live together peacefully as a nation or for their own protection.

This was the key sentence for me.

I'd say the general feeling I get from Thais, especially in these days of modern technology making lies harder to cover up, is that it is now becoming clear to many here, that laws, no matter how seemingly petty, have been systematically employed by iffy regime after iffy regime to prevent the population at large for questioning, challenging or opposing the regimes in power or the status quo in general.

  11. It seems someone over here has twigged that Home Delivery/Cash on Delivery/Fast Delivery Times/Good Customer Service is the way to go.

I've used Lazada many times now and also expected 'the worst' on using them, however every time my goods have arrived promptly (sometimes too promptly if I can split hairs).

I'll also put out a shout for the excellent Wishbeer.com people who had my fridge rattling and chinking within an hour of receiving my order.
