  1. We have free medical (hospital)here in Australia....but the waiting list is high in public hospitals so I choose to pay the exhorted $225 AUD per month private health insurance BUPA and what do I get for it ? Nothing !!! it's a case of " just in case " Absolutely nothing back if your not sick They direct debit every month from my bank account of $225 and the promise of oh if you get sick you will go into a private hospital and be treated "quicker" than a government hospital, so they say anyway ,so they say Strangely I went to a urologist specialist in Australia last month ( Specialist here in Australia they aren't free to anyone still a " gap " fee to pay ) $150 for his 3 minutes of wisdom ,even pensioners have to pay this unless you wish to wait a few months to see one in a public hospital. The first thing he was "Do you have private health insurance? Yes I said His eyes lit up ...." Well we can put you in the private hospital next Thursday for a bladder check ! " of course there is a gap fee for the anthiesest and then the gap fee for the insurance but that's only $2000 !!! He exclaimed "Do I really need one ? I said If I didn't have private health insurance and was a public patient would you bother with this bladder check? The answer was no Bye I said
  2. There was a famous YouTuber several years ago who wasn't insured at 59 ( I thought he looked older but that's a other story) Apparently got Cancer spent millions of baht ,ended up they couldn't cure him ,too late and went back to the UK to palliative care In hindsight he would of been better off going back immediately
  3. Problem is risk of being denied. I just spoke to a lady in my workplace who used to be a assessor in travel insurance. It went in many factors in approving your claim , regular customer, etc If they were over budget they just made it difficult for you eg refused your claim on some BS reason even though it had good chance of success to await you to appeal and then will re assess it and still not happy you can take them to the insurance tribunal, of course they made you go through all these hoops & this and 95% of claimants would give up .
  4. Your story is what one YouTube channel is looking for..."vagabond awake" is looking to interview single older male expats , your life story would be very interesting, I think they even pay you for it May I ask if you live in a city or province area? What about expat medical insurance in Cambodia? What's your daily routine at 79?
  5. Wow looking at the quotes it's over $200 (US) a month is the cheapest ! Honestly how do you expats afford this ?
  6. I take it you have a partner who looks after you ? Was meeting friends easy there?
  7. Talking about loan sharks there used to be a big muscle Aussie Kiwi guy in Pattaya who I haven't seen in awhile
  8. Hello Darkness my old friend ....I've come to talk to you again....
  9. Deoderant sprays seem to be the same price in both places . I found Australia cheaper on roll on deoderant so didn't buy in Philippines or Thailand
  10. I never knew that , I learn something everyday on this forum ????
  11. My mother took the same opinion after watching my dad suffer with chemo. She said she wanted to die naturally. Life is not guaranteed, My condolences to you ????
  12. I'm sorry to hear that , ????
  13. Have you tried Dr Oliver clinic? He has vaccine.
  14. Seems every Philippines YouTuber is hitting Duamegette It's becoming the farang foreigner area of the Philippines I guess my concern is the prices of rents etc will now go up as the influx of foreign pensioners migrate to the area Yes I may consider this area for retirement but I was a little bit concerned at the "right wing" mentality of some American expats there that made comments about gay people etc and hold a church meeting every Friday at a cafe .
  15. Try the mainly foreign area of Duamegette,a lot of YT videos on this area
  16. No modern gyms there yet though. No fitness First or anytime fitness
  17. And what about expat living in Cambodia? I guess it's Siem Reap, although the YT presenter said Kampot was the new expat area. With the Chinese development I guess there would be modern medical centres , shopping malls etc
  18. Very interesting I didn't know that
  19. Is this still the case? I think so too , ,but I don't want to name the YT presenter but he said the costs were that high compared to Thailand. He was also talking about the bar girl situation and saying that was much much higher because of the Chinese influence. So any expats from Cambodia what's your thoughts on the financial costs ,medical , nightlife and just living there
  20. Haven't been to Cambodia PP now since 2017. It had changed a lot since my 2005 visit. I remember about 10 years ago all the Thailand expats were going there to live after immigration changes. It appears now after watching a YouTube video that according to the presenter that costs to live in Cambodia are 50% higher than Thailand, obviously depending where you live in Cambodia So what's so good about Cambodia for expats , obviously the financial cost nowadays is not one.
  21. Says the newbie who joined this site 3 months ago ! Omg
  22. Never saw any security guards outside any 711's ,I imagine some suburbs have them but they weren't outside the ones I went to.,maybe in the past ?
  23. No government owned hospital? I had no idea What about if your unemployed or on a pension ?
  24. Very true !!!! ????????
  25. Omg ,no one wanted to kidnap my old bum???? I remember being in General Santos City ,it's a country city and I was walking back late one night along a quiet road ,up ahead was a Filipino guy who kept looking back at me scared I was thinking how can he be scared of a foreigner ? When I got up close he stopped and let me pass ,he looked at me clearly in the face with a nervous look Had no idea why he got scared of me unless it was my panting and puffing trying to walk that he heard Maybe he thought I was deep breathing for him Of course anywhere can be dangerous even in some parts of Australia at night
