They aren't testing, so in essence, they aren't lying. Hospital cases are the clue and we've not had any domestic hospital cases in months. Until recently. So no, they aren't lying. Just reporting the data they have....without massive testing.
That doesn't account for the fact that, having been given an aplmost free pass for 9 months, they are vSTILL woefiully unprepared for a major surge inside the borders.

You are quite right. These pigs have been at the trough for so long and have already gained so much cash that they actually look at this and think "one million is not that much money"!
I saw so much of this <deleted> in Africa. Same thing here only these pigs really think that they are cleaver and special!

5 minutes after boy wonder "wins" his election, the ME starts to unwind. How predictable. But, seeing as the incredible peace achievements in the ME under 45 were generally regarded with negativity and not worthy of praise, I am sure more countries in the area cranking up tensions with Iran will more warmly welcomed. Just watch all moves Trump made for world peace getting unwound by a career politician.
Given that the stupid, impeached, (sore) loser blob is placing hardcore loyalists in senior positions in the Pentagon, might it be the precursor to a strike against Iran's nuclear sites, given Biden's intentions to re-address the Iran nuclear deal?

Just now, Thomas Hannah said:It collapsed over 5 years ago.and they keep on building.
Quite right.
Just drive around anywhere in Thailand and see the empty properties all over, not just condos.
Part of this is that Thais want to buy new houses. They are, for some reason, often loathe to buy second-hand. Maybe they are scared of the ghosties!
Look at the rows and rows of newly developed shop houses and all the empty properties above older shop properties.
Clueless.
They do the same with cars.
No-one wants a second hand motor. They want to have nice, new, shiny ones (even though they have never had a driving lesson in their lives!) so they can go out on the road, pretend to be Hi-So until their cute red number plates are taken back, stick ridiculous, cutesy stickers, toys and other childish baubles on their pride and joy, all until they pile it into the back of some equally untrained, unintelligent, unskilled dope on a motor scooter, or until they get ploughed under by an equally skilled moron in a truck equipped with obviously mass-produced <deleted>ty brakes!

Good point. I have been here about 15 years now. Married to my Thai wife for the last 10 years.
We have 2 houses (one we bought, one we built), a condo (Thai style, not farang bait) which we use for her son whose going to tech school in BKK and two other plots of land for development.
Why would I not qualify for residency, given my commitment to this place and the amount I have brough in over that time?
The uneducated, xenophobes in government are as clueless with this issue as they are with tourism and road safety.
OK......... bring on the rose-tinted shill brigade!!

.what homecountry would that be?
The one I actually chose over 20 years ago and continue to live in, despite its very obvious flaws?
Because I can write in pretty good English, don't make assumptions.
This is my home.
A choice.
Try thinking before typing.

Absolutely ridiculous as usual!
This is what you get when you have uneducated, parochial lackeys
electedappointed to positions of power in a dictatorship or authoritarian bubble. So, what happens when the tourists lose the wristband/forget to charge them/they fail (undoubtedly they will be supplied by China on a cheapest price/maximum kickback basis) or the tourist simply forgets to take it off when they go swimming ? NOt as big a fan of the working ladies as some on here (you know who you are!), I may well set the damn alarm of with a little morning "relief"!
Also, most of these devices use a bluetooth connection to a mobile phone in order to send the data back to a server. Will they come pre-loaded with a phone? Must the tourist be forced to buy and maintain a data connection (VERY expensive if roaming)?
Clearly, they have put as much thought into this as they did into electing their last Prime Minister!
Are they going to arrest/jail/fine the tourists?
What effect would THAT have on future tourism?
Honestly, you could walk into any field in Wales and come up with a better flock of
decision makerssheep!- 4

True. My colleague spent most of the European lockdown in his native Norway. A couple of weeks ago he flew to his home in the South of France.
Now he is scrambling to get flights back to Norway before they impose the second lockdown in France. He reckons it will close again by the weekend.

I wonder what quality Trump had that allowed him to succeed in brokering peace in this turbulent region? A region where career politicians and their shadowy backers have failed to calm for so long it started to look an impossible task. At any rate it is fortuitous timing for the President.
What peace?!!
When have either the UAE or Bahrain been in a shooting war with Israel in the last 50 years?
This so-called agreement is totally worthless and designed to boost Trump's ego and, somehow, his re-election chances, not that his idiot supporters could even place any of the countries on a world map!
This is nothing but lipstick on a pig.

4 hours ago, Airalee said:I’d be curious to know exactly how much the hospital bills have been for the Thais that have been hospitalized here for coronavirus, and if it even comes close to the US$100,000 coverage that they require foreigners to carry.
The ฿400,000-800,000 insurance requirement to extend my “retirement visa” now basically jumps to a ฿5,000,000 policy requirement (The ฿3,000,000 pacific prime policy won’t be sufficient according to my insurance agent) if I, as a retiree, ever want to leave and then reenter Thailand for any reason.
Exactly!
Thai hospitals will view that $100k as a target, rather than a limit!

The question to ask is how did their parents get the money to send the kids abroad?
Mostly it's the corruption of the parents allowing for the kids to get a decent education abroad.
It is so commonplace that if you questioned it, they would think you were barmy!

Not everyone got scammed. My wife did a $10 million USD ( not baht ) deal with Germany during the covid-hoax and went through a middle man in Thailand that supplies all the hi-so clinics in Bangkok. She fronted the money in advance. 50% up front, 50% on receipt of goods. Granted she's Thai and has connections at the very top but still, point being that it's not always a terrible idea to go through a middleman, especially when you can 5x a 10 milly USD investment within a day. 10 milly to 50 milly in a day. Easy money. Though does entertain significant risk so don't try this at home kids unless you roll DEEP, and I mean DEEP, pockets. Really just depends on who you're dealing with in Thailand. Lots of great folks here at the upper end of the spectrum.
Why use a middleman vs going to 3M factory directly? The problem is you need the right contacts in Germany, for example she doesn't have contacts at the 3M factory in Germany. Also, back in late January, when she was doing this deal, your connect needed to have some serious pull to get stuff out of 3M in Germany. Remember, both the USA and China had gotten into a mask bid war and were buying up everything in site. Fortunately the wife got a head start on the US and was able get a nice 5x return on her investment. She dumped that return into a 3x leverage ETN called FNGU ( we knew the economy would rapidly bounce back since the entire thing was an orchestrated hoax used to tank the global economy ) and she's up almost 600% on 50 million USD since March. The wife rolls deep, and I mean deep...and she's' only 30, comes from the poor part of Thailand and grew up on a dirt floor with zero help from anyone. She is proof that Thailand truly is the land of both opportunity and smiles. Greatest country on the planet...by far.
You should look for a book deal!
Great stories.

THAT'S what I have been getting wrong then!

there are plenty of honest Africans living in Thailand, just that as they are law abiding, you don’t hear anything about them. Just as anyone and people from any country, the bad ones cause the good ones to be all tarred with the same brush.
Name three!!
I think Richard's point is that they do seem to have a very prominent position in the online scams that are reported and, of course, Nigeria is the home of the renowned 419 scam.
You can go ahead and call me racist, which would be stupid as I have worked and lived over 25 years across Africa (so, at least I know what I am talking about), but when you think about it, I am just a realist and call a spade a spade.
ps Was the "tarred" reference a racist jibe?!!
Shame on you!

The boat, the Lady May, is owned by Guo Wengui, one of China’s most wanted fugitives, who is wanted in Beijing on fraud, blackmail and bribery charges, according to the Washington Post.
I'm sure we'll find out what bannon spent his cash on? Ostrich jacket?
