  1. "Corruption Soars Under the Watchful Eye of Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha" Dec. 19, 2020 chiangraitimes.com Prayut's position: Cannot reveal the names of the culprits who cheat the system Monitoring for government graft was the media's job Government officials preferred working behind closed doors Better to publicize the achievements of his government, look at cases already closed Yet now Prayut is running for re-election as PM promising in part to solve corruption?
  2. I suspect the Pattani Muslim community isn't very upset with this attack.
  3. How about starting with an error-free, always online 90-day reporting system and overstay identification system that identifies violators no later than two months vs. years+ ?
  4. Thanks to wind speeds and rain. No Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation activated but let Mother Nature solve pollution problems? Program employs 71 pilots employed costing 2.2 billion baht in 2019. Might this budget be better spent on specific scientific anti-pollution measures?
  5. Large Thai communities are in the US, China, Laos, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Malaysia, Germany, Norway and UAE. In Africa it's Libya. But the EC travel seems focused on apparently on lesser Thai populations in three other African nations? Maybe because of historical low numbers of Thai voters in the three mentioned African nations, the Thai embassies there mught have been less organized regarding absentee voting? But from a cost effectiveness perspective, I'd think the nations with large Thai qualified voters would receive travel priority for the EC. Why wasn't Libya visited? Also what about Australia? In the last election the embassy reportedly could not deliver the absentee votes to the EC in time to be counted.
  6. China does not claim sovereignty anywhere in the Gulf of Thailand.
  7. Thailand had been importing crude petroleum (13th largest importer in the world-2021) & natural gas. Paradoxically it has been exporting crude (52nd largest exported in the world-2021). In 2021 Thailand sold surplus LNG to Japan and plans in the future to re-export fuel for power plants to "energy-hungry countries" such as South Korea, China and Taiwan. In summary I summarize with this link titled: "Opinion - Prayut's mismanagement of energy sector offers windfall for power generators but bodes ill for end users and businesses", December 23, 2022 https://www.thaienquirer.com/47020
  8. If anyone knows about bad karma in politics, it's the Thai people who have had to endure Prayut as PM for (unofficially) eight straight years and wants four more years. Recycling military leadership in the Thai government will not change that karma.
  9. Yingluck uses government budgeted rice subsidies to keep rice farmers financially sustainable and that's called corruption. Whereas: Prayut uses government budgeted funds to reduce the cost of rice that would allow a profit from market prices and that's not corruption? Prayut implemented a government budgeted rubber price guarantee scheme to keep farmers financially sustainable and that's not corruption? Prayut's government paid subsidies (close to 300 billion) through an income insurance scheme to farmers who plant cassava, palm, sugarcane and maize and that's not corruption?
  10. She's in plain site serving as Chairwoman of the Chinese Guangdong-based Port operator Shantou International Container Terminals Ltd. (2019).
  11. A regular visitor to the area and club member, presumably to paraglide, so likely experienced. No cause of death was given so was death simply caused by inexperience?
  12. The Quran does not directly forbid cannabis and some Muslim scholar consider cannabis to be halal and permissible. Some Muslim scholars deem (without reference to the Quran) by analogy cannabis to be similar to khamr and therefore to be haraam (forbidden). A scientific survey of Muslims in the South (there are Muslins living throughout Thailand, what is their position?) is required for an accurate read of Muslims on cannabis use. Chuwit's anti-weed crusade is just his theory.
  13. High speed rail service in China with a vastly much larger ridership has generally failed financially. But Thailand will be different - how?
  14. UHRC cannot bypass or overrule Thailand's sovereignty that has the final authority on treatment of alleged asylum and refugee seekers. Thailand makes no distinction between refugees or asylum seekers and other foreigners in the country illegally, facing arrest and/or deportation. Thailand has not ratified the UN's refugee convention.* There is the Thailand 2019 National Screening Mechanism with specific criteria for vetting applicants. But there are "unspecified Interior Ministry protocols" that would bar migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar from the program.* Also, anyone who makes it through the screening could still be rejected for unspecified "national security" reasons and will have no right to know exactly why. An example of national security might be one's political behavior. * Thus, Thailand's judgement might be influenced by its international political relationships, especially with authoritarian regimes (?). The screening process might be a disguised method to identify foreign political dissisents whose acceptance might damage Thailand's foreign trade and security. * ref. www.voanews.com for Oct. 23, 2022.
  15. Likely much more to this story. That might explain the odd charge of overstay. For example. If a person has political "conflicts" with say a Communist government, they would be denied a passport to leave the country. Thus to avoid possible detention by such government, they must flee the country illegally and thus enter another country illegally if that country does not respect political assylum, ie., without a passport in accordance with the UNHRC.
  16. As you have "a material amount of money" in the account, enjoy your trip to Thailand.
  17. Not really. PM's and their apppinted Cabinets change. My case on point occurred during PM Prayut's regime.
  18. Will Myanmar win the bombing event?
  19. I can only speculate. Thus, the high price is probably that the Power Wall 2 made in the US. In Australia sells for $17,000-18,000 without a Solar Rebate (lowers price to $14,000). So the large price increase overseas may be due to customs duty (includes value for shipping and demurrage costs), lack of significant solar rebates, VAT, and lack of trade treaty pricing. There might also be some trade protectionism involved as a similar product is made in China that has virtually free trade with Thailand.
  20. There doesn't appear to be any haze between Thailand and Myanmar. They are in perfect sync politically.
  21. But as we have seen in the past, if a Thai embassy doesn't deliver those absentee ballots to the Thai EC timely, they will not count. No excuse. Case in point was Australia. And who controls the embassies?
  22. If hydrogen is produced from coal or natural gas that created green house emissions, what's the point? Might as well use grid electricity for power. Apart from such hydrogen production is expensive as is resupply and practical use.
  23. I live in Bang Khun Thian, Samae Dam subdistrict. Bank account in same district. Bank directed me to this tax office. There 90 minutes so many taxpayers but at least good aircons.
  24. Just biding time until the next coup. Then they'll be "dancing" in the streets.
