  1. March 2022 US inflation 8% vs Thailand 5%. If you receive USD and live in Thailand, you're ahead (but avoid foreign food imports). Especially if you receive COLA adjustments to US incomes/pensions/social security. The effect of a US "crashing stock market" is relative to the degree of investment in the market. Low to zero investment will be unaffected by a crash. Note that a typical plunge in the US stock can lead to explosive economic recovery. An attentive and proactive stock market strategy (ie., short/long positions, diversification) might minimize immediate market losses and take advantage of undervalued stocks.
  2. According to some sources: Anand Panyarachun 1991-92 (a total 514 days as PM). He was an unelected royalist but a liberal. But he wouldn't fit PM Prayut's ideology: "Thainess, I don't like the term - it's a myth." ref. Biography of Anand Panyarachun.
  3. In April 2022 the Region 5 Appeals Court on Wednesday handed over to the Treasury Department a 89-rai plot of land at the foot of Doi Suthep. This land was originally a gift from military ownership* to the Court of Appeals (a traditional conflict of interest?). I believe the original deal between protesting public leaders (ie., The Network) and the Prayut government was that as a minimum all residences (45 houses and nine flats) would be removed with Appeal Court courts & offices remaining. In place would be reforestation. Albeit now it appears that the land will be used or developed in line with the "local community's initiative" with a "provincial committee" to carry out the restoration. The government had four months then to vacate the occupied and partially built residences and begin removing associated infrastructure. It's almost July - what's been accomplished? * In Thailand the RTM can hold legal title and economic benefit to natural resources and enterprises separate from Thai federal government title. In some ways the RTM enjoys independent sovereignty from the traditional (ie'; elected) Thai people's government.
  4. For all EV's provide free annual license renewal. Decentralized Bangkok as a ICE vehicle destination. ICE motor traffic is the largest polluter in the world. And Bangkok, especially under the Prayut regime, has encouraged inxreased ICE traffic through in part centralization of businesses and government.
  5. The Prayut government doesn't break a sweat from events kicked this and the events name great "window dressing " for Thailand measured tolerance for refugees, ie., whatever complies with China policies.
  6. Isn 't Switzerland considering membership in NATO because of Russian War against Ukraine?
  7. 6 in 10 is 60%. For comparison, somewhat higher than the popular vote where 51.3% voted for Biden vs 46.8% for Trump ( a 7M difference). Might be the 11/6 Commission's public presentations are turning some Trump supporters away from Trump. If prosecuted by DOJ, trial would be in Washington DC where I suspect a jury isn't going to be swayed by Trump's MAGA histrionics. Nor would the Court of Appeals.
  8. Starting with the facts: She was married to a US diplomat and not a known spy. Under the Geneva Convection, diplomatic immunity applies to the diplomats family among other kinds of immunities. However, for unstated reasons the US recently waived her immunity so she could be prosecuted. Likely there is an agreement between the US and the UK as to her prosecution. The 200 year security relationship (since 1812) between the US and UK deserved an equitable solution.
  9. I think Turkey can support Ukraine's membership, especially since geographically Ukraine can add to Turkey's security and economic sustainability. On the flip side Putin would go (more?) mad with the idea. Let's roll EU and NATO!
  10. Thailand does not have a gift tax that in other developed national economies is used to prevent avoidance of an inheritance tax. Furthermore, I believe the Thailand inheritance tax only applies to "registered" Thai assets. Foreign property is not "registered" Thai property. Obviously, in Thailand there is a big loophole for the wealthy in wealth transfer, albeit a legal loophole. But note there was a similar issue regarding PM Prayut's sale of property originally transferred to him as a child by his father. Prayut's response in 2014 was: "So what's the deal?" So I repeat.
