May be your friend ask for that commission to the dealership and its wants now to added to the price. It not double price on any good if you negotiate alone or you know in advance the right price. Just go to different dealers and ask prices for the EXACTLY same car and make a decision. No mark-up in new cars in Thailand. Probably will be the same price in every one, if is the same model, same color, same everything....and if they offer some "discount" be aware that may be possible that a new model is coming soon and they may have some inventory of the old model to sell fast.

Experiences in Thailand with women depends of your age and your Thai language skills. If you are a farang over 60 years old, no good Thai speaker,  and looking for a lot younger women, you have 90% chances to find only gold diggers....on a Pattaya's bar...or on a BK classy country club. I do not know about on tourist spots or big cities, but in small Thai towns cost of living still the same or less than 5 years ago. No cheaper living in any part of the world, and Thailand is safer than most cheap retirement destinations. Working locally  here may be a problem for some. To do business with Thai people is a nightmare. No problems in to be retired here and with a decent income, but I can see that may be a problem for very high income educated foreigners. Not very many cultural activities in Thailand. Unfortunately....I am a "poor" farang. No better choices.

Find a tuk tuk driver who speaks English, and you feels comfortable with. Ask if he will get calls to get you and brings you everywhere, and get its phone number. I do not live in Chiang Mai, but go there often, and even with my own car, I prefer do not drive there. My tuk tuk driver phone is 088-4086797 Lung Nuat. Always very reliable. For regular clients, tuk tuk drives charge normal rates, do not need to bargain.

My advice: Do not rent car or motorbike. If you need it be sure you have FULL insurance, and you have Thai driver license and Health Insurance by a good Thai company like AIA.

In big cities is a lot safer and cheaper to use tuk tuk and taxis. In Bangkok only public transportation and sky train.

Life in Thailand can be wonderful...until you got into an accident.

Pop over to Caracas , Venezuela for a week, you will love getting back to the safety of Thailand.

And Brazil, Mexico, Africa, Middle East, Philippines, and many cities in the USA.

Considering that Thailand is a very small country with 80.000.000 population.... surrounded by others totaling more than a billion .... most in poverty, and it is one of the most visited by foreigners, this is the safer country in the world!

If you have a beautiful, and a lot younger wife, most Thai men..and some farangs, may believe that she may be a good target for seduction. That comes with your choice....
