It has been a long wait but we got the outcome we were looking for. Needless to say we are very happy with the result and thank everyone for their helpful input.

Remember that your grandchildren need to be born in the UK (or qualifying territories) for them to automatically gain British Citizenship. (Or should I say that's probably the easiest route to citizenship, unless the mother is British otherwise than by descent).

    Prior planning and all that...

So, anyone who's wife have birth in bangkok and managed to get a birth certificate with three names, please let me know from which office.

I have, from Khet Wattana (via Samitivej Hospital) about 1 year ago. Absolutely no problem at all.

Shortly afterwards, my daughter was registered in a house book in the same district. Again, no problem.

  3. The problem you face is that an agency can only do a small portion of the work for you.

You will both have to make an appointment at your embassies and get an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry. An agent cannot do that for you.

Once you both have those documents you can then contact an agency.

All the agency will do is get the affirmations translated and legalised for you and walk with you into a District Office.

  4. Yes, you can grant someone someone a Letter of Authority and supply them with a signed copy of your passport. You can post all of this to Thailand.

You need someone to go to a District Office to get a copy of the document for you.  The document can be printed at any district office as the database is nationwide.

It would help a lot if you have a copy or a picture of your ex wife's Thai ID card, or if you know her citizen number. Chances are it will be on the translation you have.

  5. I've decided to start a thread that lists the various different ways of spelling the word "Farang". I've seen so many variations...

Here is the current list. Please reply below to add any additions, and I will add your inputs into this post when I revisit the thread:

Thanks for asking; the company is still active; they left us a notice at the house where the company was registered saying things were delinquent. I showed the notice to the lawyer and gave me the quote to properly close it and also the advice that he hasn't know of anyone to actually have an issue with not closing it properly. My wife and I have property/house in our own names and I do plan to go back and live there in a few years. Would be nice not to have to "sweat it" . Maybe I could sell it to someone who is never planning to come back to Thailand; or pay them to take it. Any takers?

Nobody with any sense will buy a company with no accounts filed for several years due to the amount of money it would cost them to get the company back into a usable state. The same applies for giving the company away. It doesn't cost much to open a new company, and there are no liabilities to accept. With your company the shareholders/directors would have no idea what they were getting themselves into.

I think you will find out that the notice that was posted at the company address was part of the government process to wind up the company. My advice would be to leave it well alone for a couple of years and see what happens. You have a few years before you come back permanently, so time is on your side.

  7. You need to be realistic. Firstly, if you are not resident in Thailand the Court will not give you full custody. How can you look after the children if you are not living in Thailand? Even if you were resident in Thailand, you don't have much chance of getting full custody if the father does not agree to it.

You can apply to the Court for access, but it's not going to be an easy Court case if you are not present in Thailand.

I can recommend Integrity Legal in Bangkok. I am sure other members can offer other recommendations.

  8. Yes, but it's more complicated than that. You need to submit each type/size of cigar for a burn test. You need to supply the approved laboratory with a list of ingredients and also a list of substances produced when the ingredients are burned. You have to pay for the analysis that checks your submission and supply a small quantity of cigars to be tested. You will find this in Article 37 of the attached translation of the Tobacco Products Control Act 2017.

Should the products pass, you will need to purchase a Certificate of Tobacco Product Ingredients and
Burn Products. Each certificate costs 100,000 baht (see the Schedule of Fees on Page 21).

You will also have to submit your packaging for inspection to ensure it complies with the legislation surrounding visual warnings, etc.

Once you get your approvals, certificates and licenses you will have to deal with Thai customs who will want to see these to allow your future shipments to be cleared.
