If buying a regular (Non inverter) unit I would not buy the smallest/cheapest unit as it needs to run the compressor more and using more electricity to cool the room... better to spend a couple thousand more and go from a 9,800btu to a 12,000 btu... you will save the money in electric bills...

The Elite cost you can not recoup... The 800k for a retirement is in a savings account that you can repatriate if you decide to go elsewhere... It the insurance requirements do kick in my bet is both the Elite & retirement visas will have same requirements... from you home country get an initial retirement visa that essentially gives you two years here before you need to put 800k in a Thai bank for the renewal...

To say not eligible is incorrect... You can buy the insurance but to receive any benefit you must be in the US hospital or pharmacy... and if you don't buy in at 65 the insurance cost rises 10% every year and can only be bought during a special enrollment period every year...

I was thinking of a similar setup with a main single inverter that would have a limiter to prevent the meter from turning backwards... Like this...

Not entirely the seller's fault as the inverters look identical, just a different length of wireless ID number.
