The deputy chairperson of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is championing the cause for the integral Thai martial art, Muay Thai, to be recognised as an Olympic sport. Paetongtarn sees the inclusion of Muay Thai in the Olympics as part of a broader strategy to elevate the martial art as a key tool of Thailand’s soft power.“We will get the opportunity to cheer on Muay Thai boxers representing Thailand in the Olympics one day,” shared Paetongtarn on her Facebook page.
Paetongtarn and her team are developing ways to make Muay Thai more accessible and appealing to international audiences. One of the proposed strategies is the introduction of a ranking system, akin to that of Taekwondo’s belt ranking system.
In addition, they aim to professionalise the teaching of Muay Thai, increase the frequency of Muay Thai competitions at all competency levels, and enhance the global presence of Muay Thai camps. They also plan to boost the Muay Thai equipment industry, all as part of maximising the potential of this national sport.

Ridiculous! Muay Thai is a regionally established sport, why should it be Olympic! So that Thailand can get a medal cheaply?

Online Reporting for Foreigners Staying Over 90 Days in Thailand
BANGKOK (TNA) – The Immigration Bureau (IB) has introduced an online reporting system for foreigners staying in Thailand for more than 90 days, marking the first-ever implementation of this service.
The initiative, initially targeting investors under the promotion of the Board of Investment (BOI), is expected to stimulate the economy and boost tourism in Thailand.
Pol Lt Gen Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, along with relevant authorities, announced the commencement of the “90 days online notification” service. This allows foreigners to report their residence status when staying in the kingdom for more than 90 days through an online platform.
The system aims to provide convenience to international tourists, enabling them to submit advance notifications 15 days prior to the expiration of their 90-day stay. Notifications can be made at any time through the online portal at www.immigration.go.th. Once registered, users will receive a password via email, allowing them to log in and submit their 90-day notification. Approval results will be sent via email or accessed through the website www.immigration.go.th.

THAI NETIZENS blasted a new sign put up at Sanam Luang ground forbidding sunbathing in public areas as it shows a photo of two foreign women doing so with a crossed circle over it with this deemed to be inappropriate, TV Channel 7 said today (Jan. 19).
The sign put up by Phra Nakhon district officials is in three languages, Thai, English and Chinese, and has graphic images of a person lying down, a bikini and a photo of the two foreign women sunbathing with red crossed circles over them forbidding these two activities and wearing the skimpy garment.
However the online uproar arose over the photo of the two foreign women which although their faces had been pixelated was thought to be inappropriate without getting permission from them to use it.
This TV Channel’s reporters questioned the district chief about this sign and he explained that in designing it the intention was to clearly convey a message to foreign tourists about what is forbidden so that they immediately understand because violation leads to a 500 baht fine.

Phuket has become a playground for Russia’s wealthy elite, causing property prices to skyrocket by 15 to 20%.
Amidst Thailand’s tourism boom and the aftermath of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, affluent Russians are making Phuket their long-term home, revealed Maetapong Upatising, president of the Phuket Real Estate Association.“Phuket’s allure lies in its world-class amenities, including an international airport, schools, golf courses, yacht marinas, hospitals, and a dazzling array of luxury villas and condos.”
This influx has prompted major developers like Origin, Sansiri, Siamese Asset, and Raimond Land to invest heavily in Phuket, unveiling projects in coveted areas such as Cherng Talay and Patong.

The plaintiffs knew from the beginning that the allegations against Pita had nothing to do with it, but in Thailand that is enough to get rid of politically unpleasant opponents. This is how the political establishment repeatedly cheats the electorate.
