The Royal Thai Air Force plans to acquire 12 new fighter jets — either the US F-16 or the Swedish Gripen — to replace an aging fleet in the coming years after failing last year to procure its No. 1 choice: the most advanced US F-35.The acquisition plan would be released when the Air Force issues a White Paper on its long-term air defense strategy at the end of February, according to Air Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul, the commander-in-chief of the Air Force.
The Air Force would consider aircraft efficiency and capacity, the appropriateness and budget-worthiness of the warplane for hardware procurement, he said, adding that the public would be given a proper explanation.
The budget outlay for the acquisition plan has not been disclosed yet, but it was expected that the Air Force would initially request at least 19 billion baht from the government for the first batch of fighter jets.
Due to budget constraints and the economic downturn, the Air Force is dividing its procurement plan into three phases over 12 years, acquiring four jets in each phase. The order for the first batch would be placed in fiscal year 2025 and the jets could be delivered by 2028. The order for another four planes in the second phase would be placed in fiscal 2029. The final batch of four fighter jets to complete its fleet are expected by 2037, according to a senior Air Force official, who spoke anonymously.

10 hours ago, Social Media said:In the wake of Alexei Navalny's tragic death in Siberia, a stark reminder emerges for democracies worldwide: some nations play by rules diametrically opposed to those of the free world. The demise of the Russian dissident underscores a broader trend where despotic regimes advance while democracies flounder.
The West, led by the United States under President Joe Biden, finds itself in a precarious position of retreat. From the emboldened actions of Putin's Russia to the audacity of Iran's Islamist government, the unfree states are flexing their muscles with impunity, while the free world struggles to respond cohesively.
In the Middle East, Iran's revolutionary regime wages a multi-front war, using proxies to threaten regional stability. Qatar, purporting to be a mediator, harbors terrorist groups like Hamas and the Taliban while leveraging its financial clout to silence criticism. China, too, capitalizes on Western vulnerabilities, ensnaring nations like America and Britain in its economic web.
Under President Biden's leadership, America's resolve appears weakened, evidenced by recent diplomatic missteps and the botched Afghanistan withdrawal. The collapse of a Senate border deal highlights a troubling shift toward adopting policies reminiscent of Trump's "America First" agenda.
In this environment, the absence of robust leadership exacerbates Western vulnerability. Washington's retreat invites aggression, emboldening adversaries and eroding confidence in the West's ability to defend its values.
The situation calls for a recalibration of priorities. While diversity and representation are vital, they should not supersede the paramount importance of national security and strategic foresight. Democracies must recognize the folly of pursuing policies blind to geopolitical realities, lest they continue to cede ground to authoritarian regimes.
As the world grapples with escalating tensions and existential threats, the West must reclaim its leadership mantle. A renewed commitment to principled diplomacy, coupled with a robust defense of democratic values, is essential to navigating the challenges ahead.
In conclusion, the West's leadership void under President Biden poses a significant threat to global stability. By prioritizing short-term political gains over long-term strategic interests, the free world risks further erosion of its influence and security. Now is the time for decisive action and unwavering resolve to confront the adversaries of freedom and democracy.

The Corrections Department says the release on parole of Thaksin Shinawatra is in line with the law. The department issued a statement to clarify matters after the former PM’s release caused some raised eyebrows, to say the least.Thaksin returned to the kingdom in August last year, having fled Thailand after being ousted by a military coup in 2006. He lived abroad in self-imposed exile for the next 15 years During that time, he was convicted for corruption and abuse of power while in government and sentenced in absentia by various military governments.
When he returned in August, he was met by the authorities and taken to the Supreme Court, where he was sentenced to 8 years in prison (subsequently reduced to 1 year by royal clemency). Later that night, he was removed from Bangkok Remand Prison and transferred to the Police General Hospital on the grounds of “ill health”. He remained there until his release at the weekend, meaning he hasn’t spent a single night in jail.

About an hour ago I ordered some food. According to Google Maps the distance from my home is 2.4km.
I know the way. There is sure traffic, but with a motorcycle it is manageable.
After waiting for some time, I checked the FoodPanda tracking of my order, and I discovered that the rider took a route which just doesn't make any sense. Maybe two or three time longer than necessary and also in traffic.
I wonder if the rider had no clue how to get to Sukhumvit, or he is instructed to ride according to their navigation system, which suggest a crazy route, or what.
Do you know how this works? Could the rider take a different, shorter route, if he knows one?
The drivers not only deliver to one customer but have multiple deliveries, which leads to detours...get it!?

We ran mini-marathons in Isaan over the last 2 years. The competitions are well-managed, and the camaraderie is good. I always feel welcome as a farang sharing an event with Thais. I run for pleasure rather than trophies or prize money but this year several events have advertised that prize money is only for Thai competitors not FOREIGNERS. Farangs can compete but will not share any prizes, even finishing first, second or third.
Just read the Rules of the Game! Why aren't falangs allowed to collect the money if they win in the lottery? is this legal?

What was the mandate with the same name is Jordan, Israel and Gaza. Muslim states occupy over 98% of territory in the middle east, but they want it all.
This does not justify Israel behaving like a terrorist group and taking revenge on the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza for the atrocities of Hamas! Shame on you!

Thai Airways has taken legal action against a passenger who criticised the airline’s decision to divert a Bangkok-Melbourne flight to Sydney due to adverse weather conditions. The airline asserts that the crew followed international safety and security standards and seeks to protect its reputation and that of its personnel.Thai Airways has addressed the uproar caused by a passenger’s complaints about a captain’s decision to change a flight’s landing destination from Melbourne to Sydney. Yesterday (February 1), the airline announced it was pursuing legal steps to defend its rights and those of its employees affected by the incident on flight TG 465 on January 28. The airline reiterated its adherence to safety and security standards and emphasized the significance of not misleading the public.
The passenger’s post, which criticised the pilot’s actions on the January 28, flight from Bangkok to Melbourne and led to an alternate landing in Sydney due to weather at Melbourne Airport, has sparked widespread discussion. Many have voiced support for Thai Airways’ decision to take legal action against the passenger, praising the airline for setting a positive precedent in a society increasingly filled with disrespect, reported KhaoSod.
One comment read, “It’s justified and a thank you to Thai Airways for setting a good example for society. Insulting and slandering are not honest criticism. Remember this, or better yet, tattoo it on your forehead so you see it every time you look in the mirror!”
