I get bored looking at vast expanses of painted wall so as a contrast I sometimes put up a wall papered section , panelled in to give contrast and be a backdrop for pictures etc. Our first small 2 up and 2 down in Bangkok. 15 years ago but the buyers of that house say the paper is still sticking.

BANGKOK (NNT) - Steinmeier remarked that this period is a significant time for Thailand, which is becoming more free and democratic, as evidenced by its elections. This reflects Thailand's stable foundation in democratic practices.

President Steinmeier also expressed that Germany is committed to advancing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, investment, and tourism. He cited that in 2023, the value of investments reached 14 billion euros, with over 600 German companies investing in Thailand, creating jobs and boosting the economy.

Regarding tourism, he noted that each year, more than 200,000 German tourists visit Thailand, and he hopes for increased collaboration and joint efforts in this sector.

Additionally, he anticipates Thailand's cooperation in transitioning to clean energy and desire to see strengthened facilitation of investment between the two countries. This is particularly relevant in supporting the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the European Union and Thailand, with the aspiration to see this agreement materialize soon.

President Steinmeier stated that Germany is ready to expand cooperation, emphasizing policies to reduce dependence on a single side and expand trade and investment in Southeast Asia, recognizing Thailand's strategic geographical position in trade.

SAMUT PRAKAN, Jan 24 (TNA) – A disruption in the immigration biometrics system occurred early Wednesday morning at Suvarnabhumi Airport, leading to a buildup of passengers and prompting swift efforts to address the issue.

Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimpadee, commander of immigration officers at the international airport said the system was currently undergoing repairs, causing delays at the immigration counters. This, in turn, extended the time required for the processing of passport checks from the usual 45 seconds per person to over 1 minute.

    image.jpeg

The malfunction primarily impacted the Automated channels for passport checks, leading to severe congestion during peak flight hours, particularly for outbound passengers. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in long queues extending to the baggage inspection points.

The Immigration Technology Center, overseeing the affected technology system has expedited the resolution. Simultaneously, Suvarnabhumi Airport’s immigration checkpoints took immediate action according to their contingency plans, resorting to manual checks conducted by immigration officers and utilizing the airport’s application to identify individuals with potential issues such as warrants or overstays.

The Constitutional Court has cleared the former leader of the Move Forward party, Pita Limjaroenrat, of the charge that he contested in last year’s election while holding shares in a media company.

The Court ruled that iTV is no longer a media business; therefore, Pita’s holding of shares in iTV did not violate the Constitution and the electoral law.

This means that Pita will retain his MP seat and the ruling paves the way for him to make a political comeback after he was suspended from performing his legislative duties since last July.

The plaintiffs knew from the beginning that the allegations against Pita had nothing to do with it, but in Thailand that is enough to get rid of politically unpleasant opponents. This is how the political establishment repeatedly cheats the electorate.

The deputy chairperson of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is championing the cause for the integral Thai martial art, Muay Thai, to be recognised as an Olympic sport. Paetongtarn sees the inclusion of Muay Thai in the Olympics as part of a broader strategy to elevate the martial art as a key tool of Thailand’s soft power.

“We will get the opportunity to cheer on Muay Thai boxers representing Thailand in the Olympics one day,” shared Paetongtarn on her Facebook page.

Paetongtarn and her team are developing ways to make Muay Thai more accessible and appealing to international audiences. One of the proposed strategies is the introduction of a ranking system, akin to that of Taekwondo’s belt ranking system.

In addition, they aim to professionalise the teaching of Muay Thai, increase the frequency of Muay Thai competitions at all competency levels, and enhance the global presence of Muay Thai camps. They also plan to boost the Muay Thai equipment industry, all as part of maximising the potential of this national sport.

    image.jpeg

BANGKOK (TNA) – The Immigration Bureau (IB) has introduced an online reporting system for foreigners staying in Thailand for more than 90 days, marking the first-ever implementation of this service.

The initiative, initially targeting investors under the promotion of the Board of Investment (BOI), is expected to stimulate the economy and boost tourism in Thailand.

Pol Lt Gen Itthipol Itthisarnronnachai, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, along with relevant authorities, announced the commencement of the “90 days online notification” service. This allows foreigners to report their residence status when staying in the kingdom for more than 90 days through an online platform.

The system aims to provide convenience to international tourists, enabling them to submit advance notifications 15 days prior to the expiration of their 90-day stay. Notifications can be made at any time through the online portal at www.immigration.go.th. Once registered, users will receive a password via email, allowing them to log in and submit their 90-day notification. Approval results will be sent via email or accessed through the website www.immigration.go.th.

Mueang Pattaya Police Station officers yesterday arrested a Thai transwoman for stealing a gold necklace worth about 300,000 baht from a Swiss man.

The Swiss victim, 60 year old Phillippe Bocion, reported to Mueang Pattaya Police Station officers at 1.30am on Saturday, January 20 that a Thai transwoman stole his gold necklace. Bocion said the transwoman approached and sexually harassed him by hugging him around the neck.

Bocion said he pushed her away and later discovered that his gold necklace, weighing about 151 grammes and worth about 300,000 baht, disappeared. He was certain the thief was the Thai transwoman who harassed him and sought help from officers.

Officers identified the thief as 28 year old Sunthorn Huajaiphet and arrested the woman in front of her condominium, Centric Sea Pattaya on Pattaya Sai Song Road, yesterday, January 21. Sunthorn admitted to the crime and confessed that she sold the stolen gold necklaces so she could buy many other gold accessories.

THAI NETIZENS blasted a new sign put up at Sanam Luang ground forbidding sunbathing in public areas as it shows a photo of two foreign women doing so with a crossed circle over it with this deemed to be inappropriate, TV Channel 7 said today (Jan. 19).

The sign put up by Phra Nakhon district officials is in three languages, Thai, English and Chinese, and has graphic images of a person lying down, a bikini and a photo of the two foreign women sunbathing with red crossed circles over them forbidding these two activities and wearing the skimpy garment.

However the online uproar arose over the photo of the two foreign women which although their faces had been pixelated was thought to be inappropriate without getting permission from them to use it.

This TV Channel’s reporters questioned the district chief about this sign and he explained that in designing it the intention was to clearly convey a message to foreign tourists about what is forbidden so that they immediately understand because violation leads to a 500 baht fine.
