Not only check the backgrounds, but also check their motor vehicles, living accommodation, business licenses, visas, language school attendance records, sources of funds, and of course their known Thai associates, telephone calls, etc.. Focus on the Russians, especially the ones that have a Police Officer's phone number in their contacts phone book!

Check all people living in villas and big condos.

Can he be deported while court cases againt him are waiting?
I was thinking that his passport would be impounded until the court hearings to avoid him to leave the Kingdom.

No court involved, if the immigration authority revokes a visa, there is no possibility of revocation!

The thing about Thailand is when a foreigner commits any crime the Thai's immediately call the police 191 and the police will be on the scene within minutes because they are always nearby and on motorbikes ...    and thai's like seeing foreigners being arrested.

Where as in other countries,  yes ... they will call the police,  but because of all the bureaucracy and call transfers to the correct department and police station and then to an officer in charge,  by the time the police know where to go to investigate, and with traffic it could take up to 30-60 minutes later to arrive.

...."..thai's like seeing foreigners being arrested".... I like too, criminal foreigners being arrestet....what else:coffee1:

An apocalyptic blaze threatens to engulf vast swathes of the northern Thai landscape, with an estimated 1 million rai (equivalent to 160,000 hectares) poised to succumb to wildfires between February 19 and 25, as revealed by the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).

The inferno’s ominous reach spans 10 provinces including Tak, Lampang, Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, and Kamphaeng Phet.

GISTDA investigators point the finger at local practices, citing that the conflagration is often ignited deliberately by farmers engaging in pre-planting or post-harvest burns.

Most concerning is the incineration of conserved areas within national parks and agricultural zones. The agency vows to combat the blazes with rigorous measures.

Utilising satellite technology, GISTDA reports a staggering 1,532 hot spots nationwide, with 671 menacing conserved wildlife areas, 340 encroaching upon national reserved forests, and 232 threatening agricultural lands. Shockingly, even lands allocated under Sor Por Kor (a scheme granting Ministry of Agriculture land to locals) aren’t spared, with 163 sites ablaze.

Kanchanaburi emerges as the epicentre of this fiery crisis, boasting a disturbing 221 hot spots alone, reported The Nation.

The regional panorama paints a grim picture, with Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam collectively grappling with over 4,700 hot spots, underscoring the dire magnitude of the situation.

In related news, a wildfire ravaged nearly 100 acres of the Samet Forest in Trat province from January 31 through February 1, with suspicions that locals secretly set the fire to forage for forest products. Despite the efforts of firefighting teams, the blaze remains uncontained and there are concerns it could spread to an adjacent 2,000-acre forest.

Thai authorities monitored the situation closely, including the safety of a nearby teachers’ residence, and have adjusted their firefighting strategy to counter the spreading flames.

In other news, more than 250 firefighters from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) have been deployed to the western forest complex to combat raging fires. With a whopping 1,600 hectares of forest already devastated, these brave souls are working tirelessly to prevent further destruction.

Deputy National Police Chief Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn has been charged with the wrongful exercise of duties and accepting bribes by the police.

This follows the discovery of a financial connection between him and an illegal online gambling network through at least 4 mule accounts valued at 300 million baht, as reported by Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). He also said more than half of the 300 million was transferred to other high-ranking officers and used to cover Pol Gen Surachate's daily expenses.

Pol Gen Surachate, along with four other police officers accused of the same offenses, could also face charges of money laundering, according to Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat.

The Royal Thai Air Force plans to acquire 12 new fighter jets — either the US F-16 or the Swedish Gripen — to replace an aging fleet in the coming years after failing last year to procure its No. 1 choice: the most advanced US F-35.

The acquisition plan would be released when the Air Force issues a White Paper on its long-term air defense strategy at the end of February, according to Air Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul, the commander-in-chief of the Air Force.

The Air Force would consider aircraft efficiency and capacity, the appropriateness and budget-worthiness of the warplane for hardware procurement, he said, adding that the public would be given a proper explanation.

The budget outlay for the acquisition plan has not been disclosed yet, but it was expected that the Air Force would initially request at least 19 billion baht from the government for the first batch of fighter jets.

Due to budget constraints and the economic downturn, the Air Force is dividing its procurement plan into three phases over 12 years, acquiring four jets in each phase. The order for the first batch would be placed in fiscal year 2025 and the jets could be delivered by 2028. The order for another four planes in the second phase would be placed in fiscal 2029. The final batch of four fighter jets to complete its fleet are expected by 2037, according to a senior Air Force official, who spoke anonymously.

The Corrections Department says the release on parole of Thaksin Shinawatra is in line with the law. The department issued a statement to clarify matters after the former PM’s release caused some raised eyebrows, to say the least.

Thaksin returned to the kingdom in August last year, having fled Thailand after being ousted by a military coup in 2006. He lived abroad in self-imposed exile for the next 15 years During that time, he was convicted for corruption and abuse of power while in government and sentenced in absentia by various military governments.

When he returned in August, he was met by the authorities and taken to the Supreme Court, where he was sentenced to 8 years in prison (subsequently reduced to 1 year by royal clemency). Later that night, he was removed from Bangkok Remand Prison and transferred to the Police General Hospital on the grounds of “ill health”. He remained there until his release at the weekend, meaning he hasn’t spent a single night in jail.
