  1. Pakchong city is a small city, lots of shops with overpriced goods. For entertainment there is a cowboy resort, a small movie theatre without aircon, a few thai karaoke bars, that's about it.

Since Lotus has opened shop nearby I feel lucky not having to go too much into this city.

Not really found a place where the food was exellent and sure would never spend a night in the city resorts-hotels unless you go to bed at 9pm.

Khao yai has golf courses, cowboy resorts, karaokes, natural springs, the park, wildlife, nice views. Many good restaurants hotels, resorts on the road.

For night entertainment you can take a night trip in the park or visit a karaoke.

Temperatures are a bit lower also. I have a guest house near the park.

  2. There is a hotel Landmark in the city but I don't know prices.

Khao Yai has as fas as I know 2 golf courses, mission golf and kiramaya located more than 20 km from the city.

If you want to play golf in one of those you may consider to stay in Khao Yai.

Take the highway from saraburi to korat, exit Pakchong if you need pakchong city or exit khao yai (just behind the lotus).

I have a guesthouse near the park entrance, rooms are clean but I don't know what you mean with comfortable.

  3. I have a non-b and workpermit, becos I am married with thai I can extend my visa in the non business section.

Yesterday I went for a one year extension and thought I had prepared all documents but was wrong.

    Changes were:

tax form 91: they use to accept a copy but now wanted a certified copy meaning I have to take a copy and have it signed by the tax office, immigration didn't want to see the real 91 nor the official receipt. There was no logic behind this, its only to make me to drive another 5 hours.

new: they wanted pictures of me, my wife and my kid in front of the house showing the house number, also pictures from inside the house, I had a copy of marry and birth, seems this was not enough. Don't understand the purpose of those pictures either.

  4. Last week a Thai friend asked when the pattaya bike week would take place, I remembered reading about it on this forum but could not find the thread so my question now is if it would be interesting to create a topic where TV members can post dates of rides, bike weeks, bike gatherings.... organized all over the country?

Maybe the mods can create something.

  5. A european farmed decides to emigrate to the USA with his 3 sons. After a long ride through the country they find a nice valley to settle.

When winter approaches the father instructs his sons to cut some wood to prepare for the winter. Not knowing the local winter conditions he asks the youngest son to visit the indians on top of the hill and ask them about the winter temperatures.

The son leaves with a gift and asks the chief about the winters. The chief tells this winter will be quite cold.

When the son gives his father this answer he instructs all of them to prepare more wood. Still in doubt he tells his second son the go ask the indians. This time the chief tells him it will be e very cold winter.

After hearing this reply the father tells the boys to cut more wood. Still he wonders if he will have cut enough so instrcts the oldest son to ask the chief. The chief tells him that this winter will be extremely cold, never seen before in live and that they probably will freeze to death if the stay.

Again the father tells the boys to cut more wood. He doesn't trust his sons and climbs the hill to talk with the chief about the coming winter, the chief tells him that this winter will be the worst ever and that they are now moving to they winter camp.

But says the father, how do you know it will be such an extreme cold winter? Well says the chief, down in the valley lives a farmer with his sons and they are cutting wood like we have never seen before

  6. Hi, I have bought hundreds of dvd's from ebay and didn't pay tax, they were sent by ems. You need a bit of luck but describing as gift or used cd and low valued will help.

  8. Hi Dave, I expected you to be one of the first to reply, thanks.

I have been talking with some harley riders and they all said they didn't have unusual problems with their bikes.

Thebarnes and noble book "the harley-davidson century" confirmed the old storey in my homeland that HD had major quality problems during and shortly after their AMF period. The book also stated that with the evo and twin cams harley had engineered good engines and that HD is now one of the best managed companies is the USA and is one of the best bike manufacturers in the world.

I do trust the quality of the bikes but we are here in LOS where things are a bit different so my questions were mostly about service and repairs.

  9. I am looking for a response from the harley owners or riders who used to have a harley in LOS. For those among you who wont go public with answers or comment you can pm me.

I have always been a fan of Harley and always wanted to own one but it just never happened. Before investing the equivalent of a new car in a bike I like to know the cons of riding a Harley so my questions are: are they reliable, are spares readily available, are spares more expensive compared a japanese big bike, are there repair shops or good mechanics outside the big cities like bkk, phuket, pattaya.

I have the book 100 year history of harley and assume that the evolution and big twin engines are good but still want to know the experiences of the riders over here.

  11. My wife told me there are a lotus and big c now in supanburi, ubc would be to way to go for tv, phone lines should be no problem.

If your wife is from there and has friends/relatives you can give it a go.

I myself would not consider to live there, there are more beautiful places to retire than supanburi.

Building or buying a house: I have bought several houses and build one ( I designed it and hired a contractor) and would rather build a house than buy unless you can buy a new to build house from a land developer and you can specify the colors of the walls, the floor/wall tiles, the power outlets....

    good luck, rono

  12. Maybe a business idea to import a few hundred and sell them, next year same storie...or..make them..lots of stores selling the infra red heater stuff...

  13. I have a guesthouse near khao yai and have watched the road traffic. I also know some tour operators.

Most large scaled resorts around will take their guests into the park and will most probably not reduce the price because they charge for a package including transportation, entrance fee, ranger fee, food,... so visitors using this package will most probably not benefit from the reduced entrance fee, its only extra profit for the resort.

Forget about the rising fuel cost, they are located about 10 km from the park and push up to 10-12 foreigners in the back of a pick up so fuel cost is minimal but 10-20 x 200 baht extra profit per day is most welcome.

Independent local tour operators: they work same as the resorts. Prices they all charge: 2000 to 2500 baht per person, not bad for a days work if you have 20 guests.

I advise my guests not to use tour operators but to take a 10 baht bus to the park and pay the entrance fee, they will benefit from the reduced fees.

From what I see, most foreign visitors (90%) are tourists buying the package, expats come with their friends/family by car, they will benefit from the fees, so in general the reduced fees are mostly good for the expats.
