  1. I also have dynasat system, when i first bought it I thought I had a lot of satelites and a lot of channels per satelite until I took my reciever to jsat for an udate. When I re-installed my receiver I had far more satelites and channels. My conclusion is that there are cheap suppliers who just load the receiver with some basic satelites and a few channesl per satelites, than you have the more expensive suppliers who do a more professional job when they upload their receivers.

  2. Price depends on the system you buy, check with some companies.

You need: movable dish 7 to 8 ft, receiver.

I have a F1 reciever with card slot, 7.5 meter movable dish, C and Ku band LNb. I paid around

23,000 baht for it. There are no furhter costs. With this system you can receive around 30 satelites, the one you want to watch most will be agila ku, this one has all the movie and sport channels similar to ubc bit far more movie channels than ubc.

  3. Hi Rono

There are quite a few motor dealerships in Pak Chong including; Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan, Ford and Honda. Personally I will buy a used motor rather than 2nd hand as I don't want the monthly payments/interest.

There are stacks of 2nd hand dealerships in Pak Chong and on the way to Korat. You can find dealerships for most brands in Korat. When I buy my pickup I'll get it in Bangkok as prices are a bit lower there.

Yes there are a few westerners in Pak Chong. My area seems to have turned into little Germany. There is a shortage of Brits in Pak Chong!

Hi BG, 4-5 years ago i bought a toyota second hand hilux, it has now over 250,000km, had the normal parts to replace, last year I bought a second hand isuzu for my wife, no problems so far.

I had a mitsu, sold it after a couple of months, this car was more in the garage than at my home.

I think its quite important to test drive it, maybe the local garage is a bit more expensive but you may get some kind of warranty from them..

I am not a brit, nor a german so will not disturb the balance.. :o

  4. Hi Big Guns,

The last few weeks I have been visiting some car dealers, technically I would prefer Ford, toyota and chevrolet/isuzu. Resale value is highest for toyota and isuzu I believe.

Prices: isuzu most expensive, toyota and chevrolet about the same, ford cheaper.

Toyota only requires 10% down, chevrolet 15% but this can be up to the finance company.

I recently bougth a house in pack chong and thought it would be interesting to have a car dealer in the area, did see toyota and ford, not sure about the other dealers.

Glad to know there are a few falangs in pack chong

  5. I believe the standard bags you can buy from the honda dealer are from PVC and cost 1080 baht, the same bags you can get in bike accessorie shop for less than 1000 baht, the leather ones are around 2000 baht, depends on size, I paid 2500 for mine but they are larger and are studded.

So you riding the new critter and getting the feel of it?

    love it

  7. I learned a lot from this thread. Thanks to all of you. :o

Noticed that you seem to have a Custom Seat... I am not so much interested in the studs as the seat appears to be much softer than the orginal stock seat... My old butt gets a bit sore after a couple of hours of riding, and would like to consider a softer alturnative... Where did your come from, how comfortable is it and how much did it cost??

    Pianoman

I bought my phantom in Chiang Rai. My butt too gets sore after a couple of hours. But then again shoulders and back are just fine (where i used to get problems with my 105cc yamaha.)

I will be 50 this year, no problem with my butt, very soft seat, would recommend the switch.

Contact Dr.Bike at 02-538 7638 or email [email protected], maybe he can send a soft seat to you or has a dealer in the north, they have manufacturing facility and do wholesale.

I bought the custom seat at Dr.Bike in Soi Chockchai 4, see my post in this forum about choppers.

Indeed this seat is much softer than the standard one, I brought my standard seat to the shop and paid 1,200 baht for the custom one, you know they use the standard seat frame and refurbish it with new leather, you can ask the shop to have it made without the studs.

    good luck, rono

  9. Hi Lormaak,

I bought my 200cc becuase I liked it and becuase the dealer nearby has spares in stock and experience with this model. Futhermore, I don't need more power nor speed, this phantom suits me fine for what I need it for. Not to forget the 3 year warranty.

Some want a small bike, some want a bigger, good that nobody wants the same, indeed prices would go up...

I know... I was only being an arse. I am English after all.

However, if you do tire of small ccs, the 400s are a pretty good next step.

Does this mean all English are arse? I have quite a few English friends here and in UK and they certainly are not :D

Well, this 200 will stay a long time I hope, only use it for fun...we will see... :o

  11. Hi Potter,

The shop's name is Dr. Bike, they sell to end user and dealers, dont know if they have a dealer in the north, they are located in Lad Phrao road, soi Chockchai 4, there is a junction going to the local temple (wat lad phrao) the shop is the other side of the road. You may give them a call and see if they have a dealer in the north but I think its better to visit them, totally they have 3 shops, on for modified bikes and helmets, one for repair and customizing and one for accessories. They carry so much items and can give you so much advise, they even have albums full with modified bikes.

    Numbers: 025387638, 025392072, 025383529, 017402221, email: [email protected].

    goodluck, rono

  12. I bought a phantom last week and ordered some options, however the dealer didn't have the saddle bags (I didn't like them too much anyway) and studded saddle (both 30days leadtime), I also wanted some other accessories not in honda catalog and started some research.

Finally our tv member xbusman gave me a hint and I visited a shop on Chockchai 4, its called Dr.Bike, located near the junction to wat lad prao. This shop has all accessories you can dream of for choppers, they even can customize your bike. They are specialised in Phantom, steed, boss and have also harley accessories ( genuine or fake?)

I bought the bags i liked, a nice helmet, grips,... and canceled those accessories from my dealer, I saved several thousands and had the items I liked.

  13. Dont know what company you leased from, when I wanted to sell my car under finance I called the finance company and asked them how much I had to pay if I cleared the outstanding debt at once, it was much less than was stated on my monthly bill and was fair when I made my own calculations.

I think there are 2 ways to clear, one is the bad way, just park it at the finance headquarters and leave or find a second hand car seller who pays cash for you car, the seller will clear the finance for you but dont expect a lot of cash from him in your hands.

  14. The gearbox is pure junk, feels like shifting a bag full of marbles. Misses gears alot, could use better rear shocks than the 240 baht standard equipment. The OEM tires and brakes are junk too, the bike performs much better when these are replaced with quality components.

where do you buy those quality components sucha s gear, shocks, tires, brakes?

This year I think I will punch mine out to 250cc, thats what they were originally designed as in Japan, our Thai Phantoms are undersized to comply with regulations. The 250cc kit is just pistons and rebore, easy and makes a big differance.

where do you buy the kit?

Great bike, great choice, you will enjoy it with few problems and have something to resell easily when your done.

was reading all the "phantom" posts last weekend and ordered a phantom yesterday, have to wait a few days to get all the options installed.

  15. I want to buy a Exec used car -BMW, AUDI, SAAB, MERC, Lexus or similar. Any advice where I can find websites in English in Bangkok ?...Any advice on other recommended places here ? Any car auctions ? Any dealers recommended ?

Hi, have a bmw, metallic blue 520I and want to sell it.

It has many options such as 6 airbags, automatic airconditioning,6 cd changer, door speakers in all doors, around 85,000 km, made in 1998. I am using it myself.

Reason I want to sell it: want to move.

  16. its one way to keep the economy growing

the printing industry can look forward to print zilljoens of new business cards, company letters, invoices, receipts...

the telephone companies will also get a big cake with everybody calling everybody to inform his (hers) now numbers.

the loggers also win, more trees to cut to make additional paper.

the garbage collectors more work to collect all the extra paper

    the recyclers more work

the big losers: the consumers and forests.

  17. AFAIK - from non-authoritative sources - internet telephoni is technical illegal in Thailand (due to monopoly regulations) - but don't take my word for it.

Most - if not all - of the blocking happens at ISP level. E.g. for an overlapping period I had two ISP's: LoxInfo and TRUE. Many sites, blocked at LoxInfo, were very unblocked at TRUE.

Sofar, I haven't had any problems with using Skype (either ISP), but these days each week seems to bring yet another Thai-based provider of public VoIP. Surely, once the ISP's and/or their subsidiarys/affiliates enter the market, Skype will be blocked at those ISP's who have entered it.

am using skype and msn with true adsl, no problems so far
