  1. Hi All,

I was reading a post by Ned from 2004 about backup generators, I'm looking to get one in the future but haven't been able to source shops that sell them in or around Bangkok.

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated! Kop Khun Mak Krap :o

    Cheers

    Peter

Small ones available in hardware shops in and around BKK, how many HP or Kw?

  2. interesting topic, I recently got some dvd movies from a friend and thought how to save them for a long time, or how to make a back up.

I considered to buy a) an external hard disk :o external dvd burner, both for my laptop and c) dvd recorder to record movies from satelite and to make copies from my collection.

I finally decided to buy a dvd recorder so I can record and copy movies.

I use regular cd-r for mp3 and jpeg but do not burn both on the same cd and dont have problems.

I guess better to have a dvd burner in your case, you can create files/chapters on it and can select the quality from high ( one hour record) to lower (up to 8 hours)

DVD burners for computer: around 3,000 baht, dvd recorder 10,000

    hope this helps

  3. The thai channels are on thaicom 2,3 C & Ku band, the "official" UBC are also on thaicom. The free "UBC" channels are on agila 2 Ku band. This means you need a movable dish with C & Ku LNB.

Whats this...what UBC channels are free ?? are there more channels out there that we do not see on the normal UBC system ??

Please check JSAT website, click on satelites, agila 2 and you will see all the channels, not complete list: cnbc, abc, fox, cnn, bbc, bloomberg, cartoon network, disney, nickelodeon, hbo, star movies, star world, cinemax, halmark, axn, tcm, star sports, espn, discovery, discovery travel, asia living,tv5, deutsche....

other movie channels english spoken but forgot name.

there are 52 channels on this agila, all for free, check it out.

thaicom 2,3: thai 3,5,7,9,11,itv + several others not on ubc, + russia today (enlgish), bvn ( belgium-netherland) + several indian/pakistan channels( some in english)

As far as I understand: you need 2 boxes/dishes if you want to watch 2 different satelites at the same time, if you want to watch 2 different channels on the same satelite on dish will do but you will need an extra box which is not so expensive.

Better to check with a satelite equipment provider to get the right answer to this, I am just a user.

    cheers, rono

  4. What is the cost of UBC via Jsat, is it exactly the same monthly cost ??

As with most things, you seem to offer many and varied packages and with 1200 channels involved, what is the chance of you simplifying it for us.

I am not at all interested in the Indian, Chinese, Indonesian channels. I do want UBC and any other possible good movie channels, documentary stuff that is not on UBC. I also most of all want ABC Asia Pacific.

So for best overall coverage of these, what is best package and cost.

Also what is the cost for setting up to a second TV.

Are the Thai channels still available through the system, such as they are on UBC and get better reception.

Lastly, is it possible to have it setup so that you can watch Thai TV on one TV and other channels on the other at the same time. We currently have this with UBC.

The thai channels are on thaicom 2,3 C & Ku band, the "official" UBC are also on thaicom. The free "UBC" channels are on agila 2 Ku band. This means you need a movable dish with C & Ku LNB.

  5. I spoke to JSAT staff who told me WWE goes out on FTA but I could not find any channel on my JSAT supplied box that airs it. Also, my system no longer auto decodes my DREAM TV. (I have to manually enter a code every two hours or so).If I take it to a JSAT office, can they update it to auto decode?

You should have the L312 software, the older (last year) version indeed cannot auto update. Jsat has done my update for free last year.

  6. I want to move my old dish and may upgrade it, but you (JSat) seems to not receive my private message.

Check their website, msn or call them, i never had problems contacting them by msn.

    cheers, rono

  7. Really....so your saying you CAN watch UBC on the Jsat satellite ?? I presume this is pirated surely and surely UBC put in place, will put in place, or check regulalry and update technology to stop people doing this.

I have no problem with it, just like pirated dvd's, but want to know the longevity of it I guess.

UBC only has the rights to distribute some channels in thailand, you can watch the real ubc on thaicom satelite provided you buy the ubc card. Agila is from Philippine where UBC has no say so its not pirated and there is nothing UBC can do about it, legally nor technically. The agila signal is normally scrambled however my decoder has the software to automatically find the codes to descramble. The only difference with UBC is that you will get advertising during breaks, but rather have advertising than the stupid UBC music.

    simple.

  8. I have UBC, I have no real complaints about it, the movies are good, they do repeat stuff, but what do you expect 24 hours of new shows 365 days a year ?? The signal drops out in lightning storms at times, but in 4 years the longest has been a couple of hours.

I want Jsat exclusively for the Oz ABC Asia pacific channel. Is there any way to get this channel without the huge Jsat dish and so on.

I know that with Jsat, it has to relocate the dish with every channel change, so you have delays between every change.

I also want to know if you can have both, Jsat and UBC on the same TV, probably different boxes, but change with the flick of a remote between UBC and Jsat for example. I do not want to have to be changing cables and shit to switch between them.

some corrections: you only have to move the dish when you change satelite, agila on Ku band shows all the ubc channels and lot more (over 50 channels on agila). You can buy a receiver with card slot and a ubc card although I dont see the purpose of buying the yearly card when you can watch the same channels for free on ...Go to jsat website and click on satelites..agila..you will see all the channels listed.

Further questions you can ask jsat ( they have expat engineers)

  9. I had UBC for about 10 years, was fed up with the quality and finally bought a satelite system.

The dealer (not Jsat) installed it and I thought he had done a good job.

When new sofware became available Jsat offered all TV members a free upgrade, even non Jsat customers. I took my decoder to Jsat, in less than half an hour they upgraded my software and added several satelites + channels/satelite to my decoder, all for free.

  10. Arroyo 'unavailable' for Thaksin meeting

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will not meet his Philippines counterpart President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after flying to the Philippines today, but Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon said it was no snub - Mrs Arroyo was just busy.

The cancellation of appointment is not connected with politics, the Thai foreign minister spun. He said Mrs Arroyo has other engagements. Besides, the appointment was not official as Mr Thaksin is on a private visit.

Mr Thaksin is something of a celebrity to left-wing protesters who are demanding that Mrs Arroyo step down. Earlier this month, they insisted she must follow Mr Thaksin's example.

In reply, the Philippines Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said on national radio in the the Philippines that there was one key difference between the two leaders: "President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has balls."

Mr Kanthathi's spin this morning was that Mr Thaksin's visit to the Philippines was meant both for business and relaxation, and meeting with President Arroyo was meant to be an added benefit to the trip.

    --Bangkok Post 2006-04-30

very confused, thought TS was not a PM, just a nobody like us, so why should a president meet with him?

  11. The tragedy occurred when soldiers aimed their M-16 rifles at the spectators and after they pulled the trigger,...........

Haven't they been thought never to aim at people unless you want to shoot them? How stupid can those soldiers and their superiors be? Unbelieveble, they aim a gun at the spectators.

  12. Couple of quick questions:

Can you buy a car (pickup) via my limited company?

Can the company get finance to buy?

    The reasons for my question:

    Weigh up All options

I have a 2M Baht company fully paid up but no work permit as I am not based here fulltime (4 Months p.a) and believe I cannot get finance as a farang. I have 1 year OA visa (Visiting friends)

Finance interest rate is 3.5 % so I would like to put say 50% deposit and pay over 24 months.

With workpermit its easy, have done it without also but then my TW had to sign. Maybe with a 50% deposit it will be easy as well. Check so finance compenies or your local bank

  13. I pulled my electric bill out of my mailbox this afternoon to find that they say I owe them 405,517.74 Baht!! :D

Last month, they did not come and read my meter at all but just billed me on "average unit" which annoyed me because my air con hadn't been working for three weeks and I was looking forward to a much reduced bill. Now this month, they have officially taken the cake by billing me in advance for the next 20 years.

I have asked the architect who recently did some work on my house to try and help me and he has said he would sort it out. I hope he can because this is one hel_l of a mistake!

    If I didn't :D I would have :D

Here they use some kind of meter with printer, 2 months ago they made a mistake and had a high seven figure bill, luckily they had their brains with them and made a correct bill :o

  14. yea i remember the days of 42-43 baht and us feb was only payibg 2.5%...guess it is time to takemy usd somewhere else...

I can remember 25 Baht to a Dollar and less than 40 baht to a pound. :o

:D me too, this was before TS & co decided to float the baht ( managed they called it)

In no time this managed floating resulted in over 100 % devaluation until TS & co resigned.

    Those were the days :D

  15. TAT invites tourists to Pakchong Cowboy City

Many tourism activities are being held this summer such as the “Pakchong Cowboy City”. The event is being prepared by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s 1st Northeastern Regional Office.

This event will be held to please people who enjoy the western countryside environment and atmosphere. The event organizer has transformed the district of Pakchong into a classic cowboy city, under the name Pakchong Cowboy City.

    How Thai it is.

What an experience. In the one of the most passive corners of the world that has no features and nothing to show.

They might have but they don't know how to do it.

Shame somebody has led them into this stupidity, they have reached for nothing less than to mimick America. In the midle of their stone age life.

Its not so a bad idea, kids all over the world like to play cowboy and indian, the region is known as cowboy area, chockchai farm has thousands of visitors, pensuk resort is always fully booked.

Yes there is a lot of interest in it from the locals. I have joined the new years eve cowboy party and enjoyed the ambiance, the country music and the activities, made quite a few friends. Agreed most people were thais but better for the economy if they spend their money here than abroad.

As for tourists, its something different instead of visiting musea and temples, not all tourists are from USA.

  17. I've bought some great DVDs of old movies from this site-

    www.boomerangshop.com.

They offer a "Pay at post" option- you pay for the movies when you pick them up at your local post office in Thailand.

thanks, visited boomerang, indeed lot of classic movies but many out of stock, does this mean they will order them for me if I order a "out of stock" title?

  18. Some places to look:

    http://jsat.tv/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

    http://www.rdi-sat.com/links.php?type=1

    http://www.9sats.com/

Thai dealers like PSI and Dynasat also have sites

The earlier correspondent who says 'don't ask' (how I hate that phrase when it is not warranted) is not strictly correct about UBC - see the posts under the 'Angelbox' and other twin-tuner receivers in the satellite forums. However, the solution is quite expensive, probably not very reliable, involves a second satellite pointing at Asiasat 4, and also needs a non-Thai version of the box firmware (the Thai dealers are nervous of action from UBC). It has also been delivering T**kom and M***tichoice through. In the jargon this is not a proper hack but 'card sharing'

Regarding Agila, this is the best bet for a simple solution, but I am not quite sure if an 8ft dish is enough for Korat. A dealer in Surin suggested 10 foot for the D****m KU band package, and where I live further north this is what you need for relaible reception.

I believe that some EPL football matches are broadcast free-to-air on Dragon, Myfawady and VTV3. There is better coverage on Indo TV7 with weak BISS encrytion. You definitely need a motorised system on your main dish. Of course, if you do subscribe to UBC, an 80cm KU dish will do.

I find this a very interesting hobby, though I know it turns off a lot of people.

Right, jsat.tv offers a lot of information about what satelites you can watch, about all the channels per satelite, even real madrid has it own channel, didn't look for the premier league clubs yet.

I have only one dish, sometime we watch thaicom 2,3 on c-band, agila on ku band..

UBC has only the right to distribute in thailand, they cannot take legal action agains another country. Agila comes in scrambled so you need a receiver that can descramble, agila changes the codes every so hours, the receiver with auto update will detect these code changes.

all info you need you can get at jsat, they are also online on msn.

  19. The best option is to just buy a dynasat sytem or similar and then use the web forums to add your own satellites and transponders.

To keep up to date, you too must be keen to keep up to date with new channels - so learning how to add a new satellite and add addititonal transponders and frequencies to your existing system is a must.

Its not difficult and once you have done it a few times you will realise its ease.

Many people now enjoy this now as a hobby!

Please note - there is no way to watch the UBC bouquet of channels in thailand free - so please do not ask!

Most vendors sell a programmed packaged, the reciever has been programmed to receive all satelites and channels with a footprint on thailand.

The ubc bouquet is available on agila ku for free unlike your statement, besides this bouquet agila offers much more movie channels and news channels.
