  1. Forgot to mention I also have problems receiving emails, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, get a message cannot connect to mail.xxx.

I have to click the get mail button several times to get the mail. This problem started also last sunday.

    Clearly something wrong over here.

  2. I am based in Khao yai, didn't have this problem until last sunday.

    I have the 512/256 package.

Thai Visa and bangkok post do download as usual but sites like ebay and european newspapers either come up or not and when they do download are messed up (error in page) or when I click on a link I do get an error message.

As I said before, before sunday all was going well with no problems accessing international sites.

  3. I have tt&t and maxnet, speed is1263 kbps download and 414kpbs upload and local sites are downloading as usual.

Do have problems with many european and usa sites.

Sometimes I can download sometimes I cannot and many times the sites are not displayed like they normally do.

Something wrong with the international connection?

  4. Not all low priced guest houses are like some posters assume. We only charge 300 baht a night but rooms are cleaned every day whether we have a short or long stay guest.

Most guests stay only one night and we do change the sheets when the guest leaves. We know from our guests that many guest houses around us are not to clean and are positive surprised with our clean rooms, they all come back to us.

I advise you check the room before you take it.

  5. Having a guest house I hope I will be busy. I do hope I will have a few hours of spare time to have a few drinks with friends at the yearly khao yai cowboy & indian festival nearby my place.

  6. just went to the software download section to check out the dvd burner software, quite a few programs to download listed by reimar and monty.

looking to burn dvd audio and video what would be the easiest and best software to download?

    thanks, rono

  7. cd-wow.com: just visited this site, very very expensive, for a fraction you can get the same dvd at ebay or ioffer.

amazon: have been looking at this site, seems expensive as well, got some movies from the other sites for a fraction of the amazon price

Another way to get all the movies you want is to subscribe to a newsgroup, you pay a monthly fee and you can download all what is available, I guess it is legal because you pay a fee of something like usd 10 per month.

Only problem, you need at least adsl with over 1mb speed.

At what site do you find dvds at a fraction of amazon's price? I find that deepdiscountdvd.com occasionally beats amazon, but most of the time they're roughly the same.

I just bought nearly movies on ebay, they had dvd's starting at usd 10 cents. The dvd's I bought were priced usd 1.79, some were usd 2.88, 3, 4.3....average I paid 91 baht per movie including shipping cost.

I found out that ebay is good for movies while ioffer.com is good for tv series. I love the old western tv series and found very good deals on rawhide (clint eastwood), wanted dead or alive, centennial, how the west was won, alias smith and jones...bought them all....nearly 400 episodes at a price of 16 baht per episode including shipping.

The only serie I wanted but didn't buy yet is gunsmoke, priced at usd 150 for 635 episodes including the 5 movies....need to buy more cabinets first..

  9. you can try ebay or ioffer.com to buy your dvd, ebay sellers offer very cheap dvd's and you can see who is shipping worldwide.

Ioffer: you can negotiate price with the seller and most sellers ship worldwide.

    Payment: both sites use paypal.

I just bought several hundred movies and series without any problem.

  10. Thanks for the advice,

I'd like to stay in Kao Yai, but we have dogs.

The waterfalls where heaps of ppl go are the ones in meant, although it's fairly quiet through the week. I thought Muak Lek was in Saraburi province? I was wondering if there was anywhere similar?

I have a guesthouse a few km before the khao yai park entrance and don't mind guests bringing their dogs with them, I am a dog lover and have a few myself, if interested to have a stay pm me.

Lots of waterfalls in the park and every evening 1000's of bats flying over my place.

Prices are half above mentioned jungle house prices.

Please let us know your name/location, or PM me please. Thanks!

The name is: Westernbikers, located: Thanarat Road Km 21, about 3 km from park entrance.

Room rates: monday-friday: 300-400 baht for fan room, 500 for aircon, weekends 400-500 fan and 600 aircon room.

All rooms have hot water and tv.

We speak Thai, English, Dutch and a bit of French.

Thai and western food, coffee shop, cowboy-indian-biker shop

    Dogs allowed.

    Cheers, Rono

  12. There is a real network of Burmese ladies around the country. They are excellent housemaids and their main concern is getting a visa to stay on in Thailand. if you help them with that you are on a winner and they will stay forever. My friends in Bkk have had their housemaid for a long time. my wife and i stay at their place when in BKK and this lady is great. Good cook, keeps the house immaculate. laundry and ironing good etc. She lives in and looks after the dogs when they are away and waters the garden.

Maybe someone on the forum knows how to tap into this network up country.

I know, I had a maid from Laos last year and she was really good, she had to go back to her country because her husband had left the kid behind in their village and had left for another lady.

Hope someone on this forum can advise me how to get a Burmese.

  13. The way to overcome this is to pay them well (by their standards) and take 50% of the income and force it into a savings account. They will be under the impresison that they will loose this money if they leave and will stay put. Then once every 6 or 12 months, give them 50% of what is in the Bank savings account. This will build a relationship so tight that you cannot imagine. Worked for me!

I witheld 500 baht from the last one, guess it wasn't enough. I guess I pay them well, they even have a free meal and we are not bossy, they can sit down, have a chat with us...The salary we paid was more than the local standard but we heard that people in this area just work a few weeks or months and then take a leave for a time...when money is gone they borrow or start to look for a job again.

how much do you pay them?

  14. Having had several locals who disappear as soon as they got their salary we decided to look for a live-in-maid.

If some among you know people or an agency, much appreciated

    Area: khao yai

    cheers, rono

  15. I moved to khao yai 3 months ago and I visit my office in pathum thani every week. I feel very happy and relaxed when I am approaching the mountain area of khao yai. The temperature in khao yai is much lower compared to bangkok.

Only in april we had to open the aircon in the bedrooms, the other months a fan was more than enough. Our place has mountains all around, many days we have a cool wind. There are lots of resorts around and western food is easy to find.

    For me this is heaven.

  16. thanks so much

so is 300 dollars for the month in food sound resonable?

i actually dont mind 95 degree heat at all i just would like to have a safe room where i can keep my belongings without having someone come inside and steal all my stuff

I know of guest houses in khao yai with room rates of 300-400 baht per night, meals (thai food ) around 25-30 baht.
