  2. just talked with my neighbour who bought one recently, paid 45,000 baht + all the options came to 60,000 baht, has done 1000 km without problems, has a 150 cc engine. He also prefered phantom but money...

Speaking about phantom, i bought a studded saddle, studded saddle bags and chrome support from a shop in bangkok, all metal parts now very rusty, bad quality...

guess you need some good luck with cheap goods

  3. maybe it's time many members start to do some research as this topic has been here several times.

I have a sat and can watch about 40 sats or 1000 channels including most of the movie and sport channels shown on ubc for free, no need for any card to subscribe to.

its not illegal to receive signals from a sat.

  4. anyone experience with selling on ebay? They have several options, selling a few things, open an ebay store, open your own store, its not free but they have 1000's visitors per day, your products are seen all over the world...

its also easy to start, no hassle with domains, hosting, shopping cart, getting paid, webdesign, just wondering what's the best, if I do it on my own I have to create traffic to my site, if I go with ebay the traffic is already there, probably best is a combination of both, your own store with own domain and using ebay as additional way to sell.

  5. many useful hints, makes it even more difficult and confusing for a non expert like me.

have checked ecobot, looks good but if you have many products like i will have it becomes quite expensive unless you make big sale volumes.

any of you posters do run an online shop? I read that Thai webhost (tv sponsor) can offer cart, is somebody using their services?

  6. I plan to open a real shop next year and have already bought some goods to sell. I am now thinking about setting up a website and to start selling online with cart, receiving payments by credit card and or paypall (or others)

I am not an expert in webdesign and surely not regarding the cart-payment systems, have done some research on tv but didn't find the answers I was looking for.

Are there any companies or programs that allow me to easily set up an online store?

    Ps. i am in thailand

  7. I bought a dvd recorder without hard disk some months ago, main reason: they are cheap compared the ones with hard disk. With discs being price around 10 baht it doesn't matter too much if you have to throw away one due to bad signal. You can record 4 movies on one disc so if you have a bad quality movie due to weather you just delete it from the disc.

If you buy a dvd for 10,000 + 1000 dicsc at 10 baht you will have paid 20,000 baht or the price of a dvd recorder with HD but you will have 1000 discs on which you can record 4 movies or will have 4000 movies.

Regarding 1080 dpi tv's, look at samung dlp, they have it.

My tv, dvd home theathre and dvd recorder are all samsung, have optical and hdmi connections and work well.

I would if you stick with the top 5 listed on your post, dont buy the cheap brand..you get what you pay for

  8. I'm sorry, but that is absolute rubbish. Just plain wrong. I'm coming to BKK in the summer and I am selling my DLP here in the UK. One of the first things I will do is to find a replacement DLP and it will have to be one hel_l of a deal for me to go for a plasma/LCD.

Do read others first hand and honest opinions, go to

    www.avforums.com

I fully agree with above having a 61"dlp, I only regret that I didnt wait a few months more becuase now they have 70" at the price I paid my 61.

  9. Go to www.ridethailand.com and click home, scroll down to events. Some in Eng. so maybe have a native with you to read the ones in Thai only.

had done an extensive google search, many sites I found didn't update for years. did found several clubs, maybe joining one is one way to go.

  10. Where I live now, outside Thailand, my satellite decoder has timing facilities as well

so recording from multiple channels over an evening is a cinch.

I see that DSTV in South Africa is offering combined Decoder/DVR boxes to their subscribers.

Time for UBC to wake up to a marketing opportunity.

UBC having a monopoly doesn't need to wake up, why should they..unless they are loosing too much more subscribers to the satelite vendors. However, most locals prefer UBC becuase the thai subtitles..so satelites are mostly bought by aliens. :o

  11. Rono,

I am using a tuner card and a DVD rewriter in my PC to record off of UBC.

I am intrigued that you record on the six hour setting. My recordings are usually NBA or NFL and especially with NBa it seems that anything longer than two hours/disc gives a lousy result.

Probably has to do with the fast motion of the players on the screen since static pictures are OK even on lower quality setting.

Have you had any experience with recording sport?

Dont know if you can record direct on your hard disk or not and than burn a dvd. I dont record sport but mostly action movies such as war and westerns and dont have problems with my 6 hours settings, can even set 8 hours or 4 movies but this would lower the quality I guess. With six hours recording time there is no difference between my recording and the picture from the tv set.

I also have the option to let my dvd set the total recoding time but didn't try this one.

  12. Can you set the timer to record channels from ubc? Can you use RW discs?

Yes you can set the timer, you can even set many different times.

You can set it to start recording 1 at 5.00 am and to stop at 7.00 am, recording 2 at another time and so on. You can of course also record manually.

The problem with ubc and satelite is that you can only record the channel corresponding with the decoder, if you want to record cinemax you have to set you ubc recorder on cinemax, you cannot program different channels becuase this decoder.

You can use any disk, have used the cheap dvd-r (13 baht), have used the dvd-ram, most dvd types can be used.

Samsung and LG are Korean but have become big in quantity and quality and are equal to the Japanese brands, I would never again buy a Chinese made one electronic device, pure sh.t.

  13. After having bought a samsung dlp 61" with dvd home theathre several months ago I decided to buy a dvd recorder, I was happy with my tv set and decided to stay with the brand. Bought a dvd recorder without hard disk for 9,900 baht, its easy to program, you can select the quality of your recordings from high ( about 1 hour recording) to lower ( up to 8 hours on one disk)

I always use the 6 hours setting, gives me a good quality picture and can put 3 movies in one disk.

Can use all kind of dvd's. There is a port for digital camera as well. Would recommend this one.

  14. This happened last december as well. The fact is that they send a scrambled signal and normally your decoder will find the right key to unscramble the code. Agila is changing the key a few times a day (you notice a message "updating key") but once and a while Agila makes some other changes as well so the decoders cannot update. Last time Jsat offered a free update software to all TV members so we now have to wait again until Dynasat releases the new software and distribute it to all dealers.

Other dealers will upload the software on their website, for you to download and install or to ask your dealer to do it for you.

There are some sites offering the key's, means you have to use your remote to set the new key.
