Excellent experience at CW this afternoon
bamnutsak replied to Griffo63's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Some recent reports here re: Re-Entry Permit processing at CW have been alarming, with waits of up to four hours. I never understood the lengthy wait between payment and the return of the passport. You can get a re-entry permit at the airport in a few minutes. Maybe each application needs to be reviewed by ~ 5 levels of management? And I don't understand why there are so many people getting re-entry permits every day at CW. I did not know people over 70 get preferred or expedited service at the Re-Entry desks. It is interesting that they can "fast-track" the process. You can make an appointment for a Re-Entry Permit at CW through their appointment system. Service time is quoted at 40 minutes, but there are only eight slots per day, with five in the AM and three in the PM. -
There has been little detail made public on the actual changes to the Cannabis Control Act currently being considered in Parliament. Some assumptions: cannabis flower above 0.2% will be illegal, not sure if it will go back on the Narcotics List at the same level. No clue about punishments and enforcement. People freed from prison for Cannabis charges will not be re-incarcerated. Hemp/CBD will be very tightly controlled. Kratom will remain legal. Some MPs have made public comments that indicate that recreational use will be made illegal again, and some research and medical applications may be allowed. I think medical cannabis will be more tightly controlled than simply issuing prescriptions. "Cannabis will be - double underline - for medical purposes and research," said Saritpong Kiewkong of the Bhumjaithai party, which spearheaded the decriminalisation and is now the second largest component of Thailand's 11-party coalition government. "There is no policy for recreational use," the lawmaker told reporters in parliament, adding that such measures were not yet being considered. The draft law, which consolidates measures against public use that the government now relies on to rein in misbehaviour, is expected to take a year to finalise and pass.

A judge fines Trump and his lawyer for a 'frivolous' suit against his political foes The ruling required Trump and his attorney, Alina Habba, to pay nearly $938,000 to the defendants in the case. https://www.npr.org/2023/01/20/1150298957/donald-trump-frivolous-lawsuit-fine-alina-habba-clinton-comey-middlebrooks Is she the one who forgot to ask for a jury trial in the NY fraud case? Personally, I'd choose a lawyer based on their ability rather than their looks. But then there's trump.

If these contain any THC, and they likely do not, it is below 0.2%. Now the amount of sugar and caffeine in these drinks should probably be illegal.

Anutin floats the reviving of civics classes in schools
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Another "floater". Inter-voke school violence and rivalries are actually stoked by the powers that be. These gangs have served as a para-military force in previous "conflicts" between the "government" and the uppity plebes. "Civics" are already taught in Thai schools, it's called "prostration". -
Vivek made a splash early on but his trajectory since that first debate has been down, straight down. Most Republicans hate the guy. Heck, everyone hates the guy, except obviously the op. His Favorability ratings have been underwater since May. Might trump choose him as a running mate? Sure. Will he? No. trump can probably win with a serial killer as a running mate.

Chinese police operating in other countries is nothing new
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Italian "experiment" ended in 2022, and was a complete failure. According to the BBC, the case that TAT mentioned about Italy is an agreement between China and Italy in 2015 that let Chinese police officers take part in joint patrols with Italian counterparts in Rome, Milan, Naples, and other centres in a bid to make Chinese tourists feel safe during the peak tourism period. Chinese media CGTN also reported that Chinese police officers went to Italy to carry out joint patrols in May 2016 and June 2017. However, the joint patrols were “suspended” in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in December 2022, Italy has stopped this kind of operation after reports that Beijing ran police-like operations abroad. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2023/11/13/thai-government-denies-requesting-chinese-police-joint-patrols/ -
Incoherent? Even on his best day Srettha barely rises to that level. IMO he did a rather poor job pitching this idiotic idea last week. And the powers that be are clearly all lined up against this, and the courts, Parliament, and various corruption bodies haven't chimed in. Choke this one in the crib, and move on. No need to squander what little political capital he has on this lame-brained idea.

I think this idiotic "idea" is DOA. Thankfully. Will be put down to some "misunderstanding" by the globe-trotting PM. Top cop rejects presence of Chinese police in Thailand he national police commissioner has opposed the concept of inviting Chinese police to patrol with their Thai counterparts, ostensibly to increase the safety of Chinese tourists. Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol said the idea could not be implemented because it involves national security, adding “I disagree with the idea as it would infringe upon Thailand’s sovereignty. Thai police are quite capable of taking care of Thai people as well as tourists.” He also denied reports that it was the Royal Thai Police’s idea to conduct the joint patrols, explaining that “Reports that it was the Thai police’s initiative may have been a misunderstanding. What we have proposed is the setting up of a coordination centre with China, so that, when there are crimes related to China, we could exchange information about suspects and cases,” he said. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/top-cop-rejects-presence-of-chinese-police-in-thailand/
