Senators Under Pressure Over Imminent Vote For PM
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They kind of knew this day would come after voting for Prayut as PM in 2019 with 250 votes. House, Senate elected Prayut PM On 5 June, the MPs and senators voted for Prayut Chan-o-cha to prime minister. He beated Thanathorn Juangroonruangkit leader of Future Forward Party with 500 to 244 votes and 3 abstained. The combined House and Senate comprise with 750 members but only 747 were presented. Those absent were Thanathorn, suspended over an alleged media shareholding, Nakorn Pathom Future Forward Mrs. Jumpita Chantarakajorn was ill and Democrat Abhisit Vejjajiva resigned from party MP earlier that morning. Prayut’s 500 votes were beyond the 376 minimum requirements needed as stipulated in the constitution. All 250 senators voted to support him. https://www.fpps.or.th/news.php?detail=n1567399255.news -
According to Dr. Luft he was interviewed in Brussels by two DOJ prosecutors and four FBI agents, in March 2019. So the Trump DOJ sat on this "information" for nearly two years, including during the election? Sorry but that sounds odd. I still don't get why Rep. Comer doesn't have Dr. Left testify remotely, and submit written statements and supporting documents. Based the allegations I think Dr. Luft has more to fear from the Iranians or the Chinese?

Surely Dr. Luft could testify to Rep. Comer's committee via Zoom? Although given his situation he may not make a reliable witness. To me it sounds like Dr. Luft got caught doing various illegal things and then tried to offer information on Hunter Biden in return for no charges. U.S. Attorney Announces Charges Against Co-Director Of Think Tank For Acting As An Unregistered Foreign Agent, Trafficking In Arms, Violating U.S. Sanctions Against Iran, And Making False Statements To Federal Agents U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “As alleged, Gal Luft, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen and co-head of a Maryland think tank, engaged in multiple, serious criminal schemes. He subverted foreign agent registration laws in the United States to seek to promote Chinese policies by acting through a former high-ranking U.S. Government official; he acted as a broker in deals for dangerous weapons and Iranian oil; and he told multiple lies about his crimes to law enforcement. As the charges unsealed today reflect, our Office will continue to work vigorously with our law enforcement partners to detect and hold accountable those who surreptitiously attempt to perpetrate malign foreign influence campaigns here in the United States.” https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/us-attorney-announces-charges-against-co-director-think-tank-acting-unregistered Count Charge Maximum Prison Term One Conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act Five years Two Conspiracy to violate the Arms Export Control Act Five years Three Violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to Libya) 20 years Four Violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to the United Arab Emirates) 20 years Five Violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to Kenya) 20 years Six Making false statements Five years Seven Conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act 20 years Eight Making false statements Five years

State laws targeting LGBTQ rights have a new foe: federal judges
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You are misinformed. There are quite a few bills, in several different categories. Very few cover mutilation. https://translegislation.com/ Parents, along with Doctors, can decide on the best treatment for their children. Persons 18 YO and up are free to make their own choices. I'm sure the anti-mutilation crowd, and that is pretty small. is also equally vocal about breast augmentation and rhinoplasty for those under age 18. Such a weird hill to choose to die on? -
I was referring to her removal by the Constitutional Court on a spurious charge, which many equated to a "Judicial Coup". https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2014/05/07/1399469258/ But yes, the seditionists (convicted) did do the heavy lifting, creating the theatre of turmoil which only the courts or military could "resolve". https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2021/02/24/suthep-3-ministers-found-guilty-of-sedition-against-yingluck-govt/

Biden has a profane temper behind closed doors: report
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
OMG, he's a demanding boss. It's the end of America. I do find it strange that the right wingnut jobs can't stay consistent on President Biden. One minute they say he's comatose in the basement, then he's head of a crime syndicate, then he's evil incarnate. In this thread he's Pick a lane already. -
Senators really don't have a good argument to justify undoing the election and denying the will of the people. Better to vote him through, and then use the "System" (courts, commissions) to drive him from office. I mean it took almost zero effort to drive Yingluck from office, by using the Constitutional Court and a dodgy charge about reassigning a security official some three years earlier.

Late reply from 90 day report
bamnutsak replied to steveb5's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Varies a lot by reporting office. What is your reporting office? Is this your first time using the system with your current address and passport? Status still shows as "pending"? For CW it seems to be in the range on one to five business days. -
Just when you think a "story" can't get any nuttier we get a new character introduced in Season 1. Dr. Gal Luft. Head of US think tank charged with acting as Chinese agent NEW YORK, July 10 (Reuters) - The leader of a U.S. think tank has been charged with acting as an unregistered agent of China, as well as seeking to broker the sale of weapons and Iranian oil, federal prosecutors in Manhattan said on Monday. Gal Luft, a citizen of the United States and Israel, is accused of recruiting and paying a former high-ranking U.S. government official on behalf of principals based in China in 2016, without registering as a foreign agent as required by law. Prosecutors did not identify the former official, but said he was working as an adviser to the then president-elect Donald Trump at the time. Luft is accused of pushing the adviser to support policies favorable to China, including by drafting comments in the adviser's name published in a Chinese newspaper. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/head-us-think-tank-charged-with-acting-chinese-agent-2023-07-10/

Yes, but social media companies have the right to censor material. Social media companies have their own rules. Social media companies are not the Government. The First Amendment says the Government cannot limit free speech. The flimsy base of this case/argument is that the Government brought undue pressure on social media companies to remove certain posts. The social media companies were under no requirement to do so. If they chose to make editorial decisions that's well within their "rights". Evidently there are "exceptions"... The criticisms were echoed in the government’s Thursday night request for a stay. “The potential breadth of the entities and employees covered by the injunction combined with the injunction’s sweeping substantive scope will chill a wide range of lawful government conduct relating to Defendants’ law enforcement responsibilities, obligations to protect the national security, and prerogative to speak on matters of public concern,” the government’s motion said. The lawsuit’s plaintiffs countered with a weekend filing opposing a stay. Among the arguments are that the July 4 injunction carves out exemptions allowing officials to contact social media companies about postings involving criminal activity or public safety threats; national security threats; election-related issues including voter suppression attempts, voting infrastructure threats and illegal campaign contributions; and saying officials can continue “exercising permissible public government speech promoting government policies or views on matters of public concern.” https://apnews.com/article/social-media-protected-speech-lawsuit-injunction-c582abe6c79e72943a35776e6b5fc746 How did this case end up in Western Louisiana?

Hunter Biden prosecutor says Justice Dept didn't interfere in probe WASHINGTON, July 10 (Reuters) - The federal prosecutor overseeing the criminal case against U.S. President Joe Biden's son Hunter on Monday said the Justice Department never impeded him from bringing charges, appearing to debunk claims made by an Internal Revenue Service whistleblower. Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss in a letter to Republican Senator Lindsey Graham denied allegations that he ever formally sought permission from Attorney General Merrick Garland to be designated as special counsel - a status that would have allowed him to bring federal charges in any district across the nation against Hunter Biden. "I have not requested Special Counsel designation," wrote Weiss, who was appointed by Republican former President Donald Trump. https://www.reuters.com/legal/hunter-biden-prosecutor-says-justice-dept-didnt-interfere-probe-2023-07-10/ https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23870302-20230710-out-graham-re-david-weiss

Can she receive OTP SMSes from other services? She is using the BofA mobile app? And she has 2FA turned on? She has the number registered with BofA? Within the app you are prompted to receive an OTP SMS and you have to confirm the number on file (you can have more than one - I have three) with a radio button selection. This is a weird problem, one I can't really figure it out. Having been in Thailand should not resulted in this issue. Assuming the number is correct, AT&T may not be accepting the Short Code SMSes from BofA's bulk provider. Or there is configuration issue with the iPhone. Maybe it has a Spam SMS feature? My Google Pixel 6 has a "Spam & Blocked" SMS folder (Messages, Junk, Filter). So maybe it's getting routed there? It's probably something simple, I'd do a broader search for potential fixes. Example: https://forums.att.com/conversations/apple/short-code-6digit-sms-text-suddenly-stopped-arriving-on-iphone-xr/634ecdd226d943751235295a FWIW I use Google Voice for BofA OTP SMSes, works fine everywhere in the world.

Is a Drug to Treat Cannabis Addiction Finally Within Reach?
bamnutsak replied to gargamon's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
I don't know. In my opinion, Cannabis is not physically addictive. I also do not think it is psychologically addictive. I was just summarizing what the anti-cannabis activists here trot out re: "addiction". They'll probably search for and link this article... The most common features of cannabis withdrawal are anxiety, irritability, anger or aggression, disturbed sleep/dreaming, depressed mood and loss of appetite. Less common physical symptoms include chills, headaches, physical tension, sweating and stomach pain. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9110555/ -
Is a Drug to Treat Cannabis Addiction Finally Within Reach?
bamnutsak replied to gargamon's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
There seems to be a trend to first define a diagnosis, and that has coalesced around Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD). https://www.cdc.gov/marijuana/health-effects/addiction.html The following are signs of marijuana use disorder: Using more marijuana than intended Trying but failing to quit using marijuana Spending a lot of time using marijuana Craving marijuana Using marijuana even though it causes problems at home, school, or work Continuing to use marijuana despite social or relationship problems. Giving up important activities with friends and family in favor of using marijuana. Using marijuana in high-risk situations, such as while driving a car. Continuing to use marijuana despite physical or psychological problems. Needing to use more marijuana to get the same high. Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when stopping marijuana use. Then for people who suffer from CUD and seek treatment, mostly from private clinics, there might be medications which can be used. Seems quite preliminary, both the "disease" and the "treatment"? -
Three million baht reward offered for finding missing German businessman
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I wonder if Mr. Mack registered for facial recognition at his banks thereby allowing for transfers above 50,000 baht? I'm sure the police will be checking his banking/credit card activity. I mean it's binary, he's either done a runner, or he's paying his own ransom. -
I don't think Taylor Swift "snubbed" Thailand for the Eras tour. It seems like a heavy logistics show, and while Rajamangala Stadium is OK, probably not worth the stop for fewer than three shows. And you've got to consider the timing and the weather. Singapore's National Stadium has a retractable roof, and Swift has scheduled six concerts there as her only SE Asian stop. Thousands of Thais joined in the one million who tried to get tickets for these shows. I know some of her Eras shows - all at NFL stadiums in the U.S. - have been impacted by weather. Gillette Stadium... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oY44_iQrvs Swift (and the local promoter) cancelled her 2014 show here (The Red Tour, Impact Muang Thong Thani) in part because of the Military coup and associated curfew.

US Supreme Court strikes down student loan forgiveness plan
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Virtually all PPP loans have been forgiven with limited scrutiny As COVID-19 shutdowns threatened businesses back in 2020, the U.S. government began issuing nearly $800 billion in potentially forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loans. The program was designed to help small businesses keep workers employed during the uncertain early days of the pandemic. More than two years later, the overwhelming majority of these loans have transformed into government grants, as 91% have been either fully or partially forgiven, according to an NPR analysis of data released by the Small Business Administration on Oct. 2. The SBA expects that figure to grow to nearly 100% as more forgiveness requests are processed this fall. https://www.npr.org/2022/10/12/1128207464/ppp-loans-loan-forgiveness-small-business -
Maybe it needs to be "broken in"? ???? And it will be smooth as silk in no time. Unlike the axel seat on the songthaew, at least you're riding in cool, aircon comfort, and not getting wet. I did find it quite cheapish, rinky-dink, bumpy AF, a bare step up from the "Gold Line" (compared, yes I know that's not 'fair', to the heavier duty BTS and MRT). Is it better than nothing? Heck yeah. So, yes, it's acceptable. Now, which ticket do I need to post here? The ticketing thing is a gigantic black-eye, what doofii can't fix this?

They must have emails advising of rules, they must have been a player's briefing? they must have been a caddie's briefing - covering unique rules like range-finder use. IMO, the Starter, or another tournament official, should inform players and caddies at tee-off. This seems like it's down to a LPGA process issue, which should be addressed, and a language/communication issue (Thai golfer, Korean Caddie {Jinsup Kim}, American/english language). Natthakritta Vongtaveelap appears to be a(nother) gifted Thai female golfer. Hopefully she can bounce back. She needs a more experienced caddie, and a Thai-American body-person.
