bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News

Immigration System Malfunction Causes Passenger Backlog
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm not sure but I think I saw something (BP?) about the temporary loss of an automatic connection to APPS/APIS upon scanning of the passport. So the passenger may have to be screened manually against a paper list, or the officer needs to make a specific call/inquiry to the APPS database. -
Thailand’s economic growth labelled underwhelming by government
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the "government's" strategy, that is to say, the PM's strategy, is to cry wolf about an economy in crisis so he can get his digital wallet scheme enacted. Of course, as PM and Finance Minister, screaming about a bad economy reflects badly on him. He's two carrots short of a bunch. This poor sap is going to be shown the door soon and was only placed in his position to take the blame for all of the problems from the eight-year rule or Prayuth. -
Fewer Japanese tourists have visited Thailand in a historic first

Have to see the trend before COVID. What was the figure for all of 2023? 2022 figures (1.5 m) may have been a post-COVID blip? -
Need onward ticket asap! Who to buy from?
bamnutsak replied to Dorian999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There are very few fully refundable tickets. Most tickets have penalties for no-shows, cancellations, changes, and refunds. A throwaway on Thai Air Asia for DMK-PNH should be 2,000 THB or less. -
Immigration System Malfunction Causes Passenger Backlog
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Based on the two photos in the OP, it looks like this glitch affected both Departing Immigration and Arriving Immigration. Another black-eye for Thailand's aspirations to hit 40 million this year. -
Article 49 No person shall exercise the rights or liberties to overthrow the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State. Any person who has knowledge of an act under paragraph one shall have the right to petition to the Attorney-General to submit a motion to the Constitutional Court for an order to cease such act. In the case where the Attorney-General orders a refusal to proceed as petitioned or fails to proceed within fifteen days as from the date of receiving the petition, the person making the petition may submit the petition directly to the Constitutional Court. The action under this section shall not prejudice the criminal prosecution against the person committing an act under paragraph one. You don't have to convince me that political discussions about amending the Constitution, or Criminal Code, should be considered illegal. That said, staunch Nationalists and Royalists feel that allowing ANY discussions about the Monarchy needs to be dealt with extreme prejudice

Thai PM announces stimulus measures amidst economic crisis
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thai PM announces stimulus measures amidst economic crisis Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who also serves as the Finance Minister, said today the government is set to introduce a series of stimulus measures to bolster growth. Read the linked article several times, and did not see any "measures" presented. The PM cum Finance Minister appears to be in way over his head. PM Srettha, a former property mogul before assuming political office, repeatedly urged the central bank to reduce the interest rates that, according to him, are harming businesses. Hmm. Higher interest rates harm businesses, like his (real estate). -
Nine-panel vote was 8:1. A potential one-week comeback. I hope he survives the verdict on January 31, Charter Court, where he is accused of violating Article 49 of the Constitution by seeking to overthrow the monarchy through his election campaign to amend the lese majesty law or Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

I think the definition of a "mass shooting" varies a bit in the U.S. https://usafacts.org/articles/what-is-considered-a-mass-shooting/ I think this Joliet incident qualifies under most criteria as a "mass shooting". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2024 I think the suspect has been found dead in Texas, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. I don't think we know, yet, what set him off. . I can't address the OP's questions about why this incident hasn't created the same buzz as other shootings. Maybe they could share a few examples of mass shootings that received an acceptable level of national attention. It's been a busy month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mass_shootings_in_the_United_States_in_2024

Is cannabis legal for foreigners in Thailand? Know the rules
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the "rule" translates as something like "Smoking cannabis in public where it is a nuisance, is prohibited." https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40016662 -

Trump often bragged about the stock market levels as proof of his managing a strong economy. Just recently he said he hoped the markets would crash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUzzoHF6ixE Dow closes above 38,000 for 1st time, setting record high https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtpBXS5R3aI -
AFAICT, this second generation TM47/90-Day Reporting system, first introduced on 2 December 2021 remains unchanged. Yes, some offices, like CW, have experienced some issues in approving reports in a timely fashion, but that seems to have been addressed in the last 60-ish days. I am curious what this "major upgrade" is. Perhaps it's on the back-end, invisible to end-users, with the flow of filings through the approval process. My most recent filing (CW, 23 Nov. 2023) was approved within 25 hours. My report before that one sat for 17 days before being rejected.

Bhumjaithai Likely To Be Dissolved Like Future Forward: Academic
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Anutin, along with ~ 110 other TRT members, did serve a five-year ban in 2007 upon the dissolution of TRT. TRT did too well in the 2006 election, which resulted in a reset from the powers that be. This is spot on. -

I don't think anyone knows what the MoPH/Parliament is going to do regarding Cannabis laws and controls. At this point, any conjecture is a waste of time. I can say that the "government" doesn't care about what may be happening in other countries re: Cannabis normalization.

Maybe he should head back to Florida, I heard they're missing a Governor. There are books to ban, immigrants from other states to ship to Martha's Vineyard, drag queens to attack, history to be ignored, and Disney to be conquered. And he can clean up the Moms for Liberty/Menage a Troi/Sexual Assault fiasco with the Zieglers. Who thought this doofus could be elected President?

She's given up. She should be putting maximum effort into NH. Instead, she's doing ~ one event per day. And no more Q & A. People just don't like her, or trust her. She's just posturing for a FOX/MSNBC/CNN stint. Maybe some board seats. Maybe the president of a college/university. Tim Scott and Elise Stefanik are tripping over each other to attach their lips to Trump's behind, vying for the VP slot. Maybe Kristi Noem, if she'll sleep with him.
