Thai PM sees a role for Thaksin when he gets out of jail
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Did Srettha expand on the "role"? Any details? Just there to provide advice? As to what role Thaksin might play in the new government, that is less clear. “Let’s play by ear,” Mr Srettha said. BLOOMBERG Srettha's management style, "Let's wing it". Way out of his depth. -
Thai PM says use of cannabis must be regulated within six months
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Strange that he drops this policy change when outside of Thailand, in English with an English language media outlet? Why not communicate directly to Thai citizens first? Anyway, I don't understand why he doesn't just relist Cannabis flower on the Narcotics list TODAY, with the stroke of a pen? That's how it was de-criminalized on 9 June 2022. The exact same process could be used TODAY, not in six months, to re-criminalize it. Pharmaceuticals are on the Narcotics List, and are illegal to possess, sell and consume unless prescribed and dispensed at controlled pharmacies. Their legal distribution is tightly controlled. Cannabis was already LEGAL for medical purposes ~ 2017-ish. I think the PM is uninformed on this, and many other topics, he's more a of a talker than a doer. It would be nice if he could articulate a real plan. -
It is quite telling that Prime Minister Srettha, who is also the Minister of Finance (and thus head of the Revenue Department) dropped this deuce on the country right before high-tailing it out to New York City for eight days. His failure to communicate on this proposal borders on dereliction of duty.

Thai PM says he opposes the recreational use of cannabis
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So that's a good thing, right? Nobody is buying cannabis (according to you), so nobody is smoking it. Sounds like all the anti-cannabis crowd here, who love telling other adults how to live their lives, should be happy that no one is smoking cannabis. -
Yes, they will. The ATM hack seems good. Have to factor in the 150 - 220 THB fee, and while I get reimbursed for that, my bank may become testy if I start making five withdrawals each month. I think all Thais will be subject to some mandatory withholding at the bank (remitted to the revenue dept.) on any/all inbound foreign-sourced remittances. And any remittances will only be cleared based on a registered tax no., and possible in-person clearance.

Public Health minister defends appointing his spouse as advisor
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Um, yea I think they do. You do realize how a King is chosen right? -
There is a significant difference between a "fall" and a "takedown". IMO he'll be lucky to avoid trumped-up charges, with prosecutions lasting decades, and potentially resulting in being forced into prison, or exile. A lifetime ban from politics seems more than likely. He is the face of Monarchy Reforms, and his impudence on this subject must be put down with the most extreme measures in order to teach the populace that this subject is off-limits. The King's estranged second Son, Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse who visited Thailand in August, made some news yesterday re: Monarchy Reforms, Awkward.

Court Revokes Pannika’s Right to Run for Election
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
A Thai Court issued a LIFETIME punishment, with no avenue for appeal or relief, EVER. She's obviously not going to get a Royal Pardon. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of a reasonable Judicial System, which seems to only deliver justice to those in power. Stains like this last a long time, and the people have diminishing faith in the Thai Justice System. -
Thai PM discusses investment with CEO BlackRock Inc. in New York
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I am surprised the anti-American Thais aren't blowing up over this PM's educational background (U.S. universities), this lengthy trip to the land of Imperialists and sucking up to Wall Street. I mean they went nuts with Pita, accusing him of being a U.S. sympathizer, all because he went to grad school(s) in the U.S. for few years. Maybe the upcoming trip to China will soothe them? -
Looks like this chap is in a spot of bother. He was a front-runner for Mitt Romney's Senate seat. ‘Sound of Freedom’ inspiration Tim Ballard resigned from child rescue group after misconduct reports Tim Ballard, the anti-sex trafficking activist whose exploits inspired the blockbuster movie “Sound of Freedom,” was under investigation for allegedly coercing at least seven women to act like “wives” while on overseas missions when he resigned three months ago from the nonprofit child rescue group he founded, according to a news report published this week. Ballard, a former Homeland Security agent who founded the Utah-based “Operation Underground Railroad” in 2013, denied the allegations laid out in a VICE News story that cited sources with direct knowledge of the organization. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/tim-ballard-resigned-operation-underground-railroad-reports-sexual-mis-rcna105835 'Sound of Freedom,' this summer's surprise blockbuster, is fronted by a QAnon supporter and financed by a man who defrauded Medicare https://www.insider.com/sound-of-freedom-tim-ballard-qanon-medicare-fraud-2023-7 In rare public rebuke, LDS Church condemns Tim Ballard’s ‘morally unacceptable’ behavior Utah-based faith says the anti-human trafficking activist, who may seek Mitt Romney’s Senate seat, “betrayed” his friendship with a senior apostle. https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2023/09/15/rare-public-rebuke-lds-church/

Public Health minister defends appointing his spouse as advisor

Nepotism is rarely ever a winning management strategy. I'm surprised this man, who is a Doctor, needs his wife to help make decisions related to the Public Health of the Thai citizens. -
Goodbye Alcoholism, Hello Sobriety!

I didn't read all the posts. Other than being an NAISD, has the drug been identified? Is there some reason (personal health records) to not share that information? Maybe it could help others? -
Suvarnabhumi Immigration Ensures 20-Min Wait or Less for Tourists
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
They should add bonuses for working the airport. Shorten work hours for airport staff, and of course increase staff by 25%. Maintain a stand-by reserve (pay OT) of ~ 25 across 2 4-hour high-capacity shifts. There have been rumblings for years that this position is undesirable (hard work, no opportunity for revenue enhancement, work commute or relo, making a mistake and letting the wrong person in) and thus difficult to staff. Aligning work schedules with banked arrivals and departures also leads to challenges. I'd like to see a target of 10 or 15 minutes. Based on some anecdotal experiences, baggage claim may actually be the long straw these days? There is said to be due to some extensive x-ray/ search and RFID tagging (to alert the Customs Green Channel), before the bags hit the carousel on level 2. -
Anutin admits to difficulties in solving the Green Line train issues
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Yep. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thai-court-revokes-arbitrators-ruling-on-hopewells-฿24bn-compensation/ from the article... The BMA has incurred more than 100 billion baht in debt, with more than 40 billion owed to BTSC for the operating and maintenance costs and carriage procurement and 60 billion to the MRT for infrastructure investment. Yeah, good luck with that 20 baht fare cap. There has been a significant increase in the retail outlets within the turnstiles in many BTS stations. I wonder who's getting the rent? -
Does anyone understand the meaning of this post made yesterday on the Bangkok Immigration Facebook page? I thought that any stamped Re-entry Permit had its own validity tied to your permission to stay date? Notification of Immigration Bureau Re: Designated period of re-entry to the Kingdom for an alien who has been permitted to take up residency in the Kingdom and extend the period of re-entry to the Kingdom beyond one year dated 8 March 2023 ⚠️An alien, who has been permitted to take up residency and has made evidence of notification for leaving the Kingdom in order to re-enter within one year ⚡from 26 March 2020- 30 September 2023⚡ ????must re-enter the Kingdom by 30 September 2023. https://shorturl.at/cKPS8

MPs Urged To Probe Srettha’s 30-Million-Baht Chartered Flight To US
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It looks like they are going to keep this aircraft in the U.S. for the duration of Srettha and family's visit. It was moved to IAD yesterday for temporary storage longer term parking at JFK is not possible. No clue on the return routing? It does sound like a boondoggle, all this for a three-minute speech. And some controversy on his daughter's need to travel with the government party, and who paid for her trip. -
Thai PM says he opposes the recreational use of cannabis
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Back on topic... Srettha has no power or agency in this matter. If he did he would immediately issue an order to put Cannabis back on the Narcotics list, and instruct the RTP (who report directly to him) to immediately enforce the newly re-criminalized Cannabis restrictions. He wouldn't be PM without the support of BJT. Anutin is Deputy PM and Interior Minister, the second most powerful (some argue it is first) position in the government. Srettha is not going to single-handedly re-criminalize Cannabis, nor does he want to. Instead he issues a tepid response about his "feelings". He's a talker not a doer. Cannabis flower, regardless of THC content remains legal to grow, sell and consume recreationally with current rules and restrictions. And will remain so until the Cannabis Control Act is passed and the Cannabis Control Board begins to regulate the industry. Even then, recreational use will continue to be "not illegal". Discussions about medical disorders are off-topic in this thread and should be excised, or moved to a relevant thread/forum? -
MPs Urged To Probe Srettha’s 30-Million-Baht Chartered Flight To US
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Correct. Per the current Constitution, the King is the Head of State, and the Head of the Military. That said the PM should not fly commercial, IMO. So options are limited, especially with a party of 50. The A340 hasn't flown in a while (2022?) and is said to be in need refurbishments, which may not be worth it given the age of this airframe. If the trip is worthwhile, and beneficial to the people, then cost may not be a deciding issue? My sense is that the troughage includes these highly desirable foreign trip perks, which everyone in the new government will be taking advantage of in the coming months and years. The smarter ones will avoid posting their adventures on social media, but the attention may be hard to resist. -
Padipat’s trip to Singapore is above board – House speaker
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Even though this trip was approved by House Speaker Noor, Padipat needs to show a little restraint. I mean he did just get into a bit of bother providing food for 300 maids at Parliament. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/deputy-house-speaker-in-hot-water-for-entertaining-parliaments-maids/ And now a trip to Singapore, for twelve, to learn about something unrelated to his current responsibility? Does not reflect well on MFP.
