Seems that you are just too deep into the bitter thoughts of how much Thailand is chasing the foreigners, that you lost clear vision.

I'm not sure whether my post quite fits in with what's going on, however the quote above does lead into what I'm going to say........

Without a doubt, the police are very lax on pulling up Thai motorbike drivers, especially those that don't have a helmet, and I have witnessed this on so many occasions that I've lost count. In fact on one occasion two Thai guys, without crash helmets, were waiting at traffic lights when a couple of the BIB pulled up alongside of them and completely ignored them, when it would have been so easy to take them to the side of the road and fine them, and this is not an isolated occasion by any means.

Fast forward to today when I was travelling in my car towards Phuket town with my Thai daughter and her mother and there was a traffic stop with police pulling over just about every motorcycle and one of them came up to my drivers side window looked at me and beckoned me over to the side, whilst other Thai drivers were waived on through.

The policeman asked for my international driving permit, and was surprised when I gave him two Thai driving licences, so he let me go. The two Thai ladies in my car had a bit of a chuckle and were discussing the fact that the police were looking out for foreigners and were checking all foreigners driving through the checkpoint, and what surprised me was their next comment, inasmuch as, "it's always been like this" and the reason it would appear is that foreigners are an easy touch for a fine, whereas Thai drivers, especially motorbike drivers, would be almost a waste of time.

I most certainly am not advocating driving whilst under the influence, on any vehicle on the road, which is why I get motorbike taxis to and from the town centre.

I have used the 65K baht transferred from abroad into my Bangkok bank Act. since retiring in Chiang Mai in 2011. As an American no longer able to use a statement from the Embassy. I have never been asked the source of my USA funds (retirement, SS, rent income, etc.).

That was the same as me in my situation.......until the IO got stroppy with me and "demanded" that I use the 800k in the bank method, which I promptly did, so as not to cause any problems with them.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad with a bad hinge for the screen. The notebook is maybe 7 years old and working fine. I asked Lenovo and they don't have a spare part to fix this issue. And in general Lenovo ThinkPad are notebooks with one of the best supports.

I've got the same thing happening on my Lenovo Idea Pad and I will have to do something about it soon. As it's not something which I carry around with me and stays in one place all the time, I will have a crack at drilling through the top and bottom parts, missing vital innards, and put a very thin screw/bolt in it.

It may sound strange, but I did this with an old Toshiba laptop which someone gave me because the same thing was happening and I did exactly what I suggested above and kept it for another few years, before finally ditching it!

I do have an old HP laptop as a backup, but I'm not keen on putting that back into service, however I will have to think again about that.

So, the R.A.F. you served in, bombed avoiding civilians....?

When German cities were flattened, women and children were never killed or injured...?

You know the answer as well as I do, of course they were, same as any war, same in this war, not nice, but an aggressor must be dealt with....

I agree Trans and I made a similar point on one of the other threads about this and I mentioned the carpet bombing of Dresden, and the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, all of which killed innocent women and children, and it was done to demoralise the armies, population and governments of the countries – – that is war and if one starts a war, one should expect the consequences.

I'll forget for a second your vile posts history and be naive in assuming your request is quite innocent and genuine. There is an official IDF statement about the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh's three son and four grandchildren.

Killing children and women is not just some tragic isolated cases isolated cases. There are more than 14,000 dead children alone. 70% of deaths in Gaza are of women and children. The social media is full of hundreds of killings being committed on camera.

Here is just one case that really shocked me to the core Grandmother shot and killed fleeing Gaza. Watch CNN’s investigation | CNN

You may believe I have a vile post-history, but that's not my view, and my request was quite innocent because I couldn't find anything about this targeted killing.

I did read something about Ismail's sons being part of the Hamas terrorist organisation, or did I get that wrong? Again, nothing sinister in my request.

You are following the propaganda rule about repeating the lies until indeed you have believed them to be the truth and created an alternative reality in your little mind.

Just yesterday, 4 innocent children were targeted and executed intentionally. Israel knew precisely about the car that was bombed and who exactly was in it.

How dare you say the IDF is a moral army giving what happened yesterday to those 4 children and another over 14,000 dead children since 8 October?

This is what happens in war.....innocents get killed. Start it and pay the price as has happened over countless centuries.

Can you please give me a link to the event; "4 innocent children were targeted and executed intentionally" as I haven't been able to find it.

Yes, it's clear Netanyahu doesn't want peace alongside Palestinians; he wants all the land by any means possible. He rejects a two state solution. A madman.

The peace talks are a farce and one reason (amongst others) why Hamas are proposing such "uneven" conditions could be based on the following; killed whilst captive?.....

As part of those ceasefire talks, Hamas informed Israel on Wednesday that it could not locate 40 Israeli hostages in Gaza, who the Israelis had hoped would be released as part of a proposed first step in a deal, a senior Israeli and a senior Hamas official said.

There are about 100 living hostages remaining in Gaza, according to Israeli officials.

    Thanks for all your input.

I guess next time when we are in a department store with pot and pans and woks, we have a closer look at what's available.

I use a wok on my induction cooker plate and the wok does have a flat area which is sufficient for cooking the contents therein.........but as others have said, I use the little portable gas stove on my balcony when cooking anything substantial (like chilli con carne, then finish it off in the slow cooker).

    D-mannose found in Cranberry Juice.............

Research suggests that supplemented D-mannose could be a promising alternative or complementary remedy especially as a prophylaxis for recurrent UTIs. When excreted in urine, D-mannose potentially inhibits Escherichia coli, the main causative organism of UTIs, from attaching to urothelium and causing infection.

Bear in mind that if one already has a UTI then this will not be of much help. So clear up the UTI with an antibiotic then take D-mannose or pure cranberry juice on a daily basis. Alternatively, Hiprex tablets taken twice daily have shown great results......buy online or from Chemists in OZ.

A follow up to the d-mannose/cranberry juice 'treatment" suggests that it may not be of much help according to recent research, but I can vouch for Hiprex tablets...............for me anyway!!

D-Mannose Fails to Prevent Recurrent UTIs

D-mannose did not reduce the proportion of women with recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI), the randomized, placebo-controlled MERIT trial showed.

Over the 6-month study period, 51% of women taking 2-g D-mannose powder daily had a further episode of a suspected UTI for which they contacted ambulatory care compared with 55.7% of women taking a fructose-based placebo powder (P=0.26), reported Gail Hayward, DPhil, of Oxford University in England, and colleagues in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Based on the results of the trial, "D-mannose should not be recommended by GPs as a way for women presenting to primary care with recurrent UTI to avoid having more episodes," Hayward added.

I sympathise with you . Constipation is joked about by some but it is indeed a nasty event when you are unable to pass a stool . Had it a few times . Can be caused by your diet or some medications . If you can introduce fresh fruits such as water melon , mango or papaya . Eat salads with extra virgin olive oil or even drink 2 tablespoons of evoo  . Also a drink of milk of magnesia will clear you out .

Do you suffer from indigestion ?

Thanks and I am on to eating more fruit and have salads and EV olive oil and always have, but as I was diagnosed by BUPA 40 yrs ago as having a slow digestive system, I guess it is something I have to live with, although it has been getting slower to the point of not working!

The Doc at the hospital gave me some Milk of Magnesia after they discovered that I had boken my coccyx as that would impact my colon efficiency, so I have that handy, but as yet it hasn't made an impact........so I went back on to the prune juice mixed with Sorbitol, and that did the trick!! It acts as an osmotic laxative drawing water into the coln/intestines so hopefully it will be ok to use it on a regular basis/when necessary!

I just want to add that many of the natural things mentioned in this thread like senna and the natural Thai products made from ginger, tamarind, and other things are not really what you want.

I say this because that many of these things generally work by causing some indigestion that can cause the bowels to spasm and push harder than usual to get things out. The result can be discomfort, sometimes a loss of hydration, and the hard pushing can sometimes cause other things like hemorrhoids. So they should only be used for short term relief of heavy constipation.

But what people should really do is focus on long term dietary and lifestyle changes that increase natural fiber intake to increase toileting regularity and reduce the amount of dairy, fatty and other types of foods that often cause the opposite effect.

If you eat about 200 grams of raw salad per day and get at least another 20 grams of fiber from other things (like psyllium husk) you should be good.

They say that daily fiber intake should be about 35 grams a day. I think the average person probably takes in about 15 to 20 grams per day at most, in some cases, maybe even a lot less, which is often the root of the problem.

Thanks again, and I have eaten a whole head of raw broccoli as a salad with plenty of olive oil...........but no effect I'm afraid, then agaain maybe I am hoping for miracles happening too quickly?

I have not eaten applesauce in over 20 years... didn't even know I missed it - been making my own the last 3 weeks... very easy to make - this week I mixed in a handful of strawberries and pineapple.. a dash of cinnamon. Great stuff and healthy too...

I thought about applesauce as I have seen large jars of it in TOPS, so will give it a try.

Israel's barbarism and cruelty is on display for the entire world to see. This should never be allowed to happen again.

You could also post the pics of the Hamas raid in October because their barbarism and cruelty was also on display......if you start a war then you must be prepared to face the consequences, and in any war there are civilian casualties, and this is no different.

I hope that Israel continues its assault and wipes Hamas and its supporters off the face of the earth, and many innocents will suffer as has always been the case in wars. Hamas started it and hopefully Israel will finish it.

  16. As this thread is a "general discussion" about the Israel/Hamas conflict, I thought I would add something which came to mind whilst I was watching the BBC news last night, where various people were discussing the number of Palestinian casualties and blaming Israel for this.

It sprang to mind that this is a war started by Hamas, which is the governing party of Gaza, and who mercilessly slaughtered over 1200 innocents, as well as taking hostages. That being the case, Israel has retaliated even more mercilessly so and as Hamas fighters are inextricably intertwined with Palestinians, it's difficult to separate the two.

I have mentioned before about "the casualties of war" and innocents are those very people and it also takes me back to previous wars whereby, for example, Germany invaded countries and killed between 15 and 31 million people, and in the end, the German hierarchy, both military and otherwise, were held accountable for those deaths.

Hamas started this war and must bear the blame for any other deaths which occur since the first incursion and slaughter of Israelis, and to blame the Israelis for any deaths since then overlooks the fact that war was started and the Israelis want to put an end to it by eliminating Hamas, or by demanding the return of the hostages.

Hamas refuses to return the hostages, so the war goes on and more people die and all because Hamas and the government of Gaza decided to wage war – – it is that simple for me, and people/organisations crying out because of the deaths of "innocent people" should remember who started it and who was responsible for it and they should bear the blame, irrespective of the body count.

I sincerely hope that Israel continue what they are doing and endeavour to wipe out Hamas and the scum that they are, even if there are other casualties, which has occurred in just about every other war since time immemorial.
