  1. Disintegration of any fulfilment, purpose or meaning, as culture continues to be homogenized and marginalized, lack of a social support network, and constant doom in the news might be involved.
  2. Ah, so they discussed ending the widespread practice of bribery that is the shame of the nation?
  3. Including bribes? I would estimate in the hundreds of thousands at least. Everyone in Thailand knows the police salaries depend on bribes. It's not a bad system actually, as a consumer. I'd rather give a Thai cop 1000 baht "spot fine" than give a faceless bureaucracy 10,000 baht for the same offense.
  4. I'm ignorant of the particulars, but based on Thai history, I'd say the most likely outcome is a few old thieves leave, and in comes a new bunch of thieves. That's how it seems to work in most countries, including my native land, anyhow. Meanwhile of course it's illegal for ordinary folks to directly criticize the very thieves here being investigated. TIT baby!
  5. Probably close on the heels of the day that people learn that modern news stories are about getting clicks on the internet, not informing the readers.
  6. For those wondering "why?" the answer is the same as ever: follow the money. Which politician's family runs a tablet distribution center?
  7. Well, I would say nothing needs to be done other than do the research and let people know the danger they are facing. If they don't listen then som nam na right?
  8. I wonder why the journalist who wrote this confusing article didn't think to include this important factual information. Used to be a time when the "news" contained "information."
  9. What does being trans have to do with this article other than being more salacious?
  10. The only obvious way to improve Thailand's ranking on this index is to bribe the officials who maintain the list.
  11. Thailand should not have to depend on tourism and would be better off if every foreigner went home and never came back. This is a government failure to create a functioning independent economy and basically force their citizens to beg for scraps from foreigners who look down on them, which must be infuriating and humiliating at times. Desperate people will fight for their livelihood. The people here punching down at them would do the same if they were as desperate, I suspect. Often, economic and political position privilege prevents us from having any understanding or compassion.
  12. And yet his post continues, which I agree with. It's our right and a public service, sir, to mock drunken Brits who crash stupidly, like the fat guy that got his butt kicked for trying to bitch slap a go go bouncer, forgetting the Rule of Thirteen Thai Friends. He just pointed out that there are occasionally some drunk-ass Brits on barstools and they seem to get in some trouble in Thailand more than some others. This is not racism, because you can't be racist against Brits; they just nod along with you, being self-aware, good-humored sports by and large. ????
  13. I'm not justifying their actions, I'm calling the old man a damned fool and saying he started it. Based on the available evidence, he swung first. I'm not surprised that go-go bouncers in a town full of drunking hooligans had a violent reaction to what you minimize as a mere "slap." I'm not say that "he must have done something wrong," i'm saying he does something wrong right on video. No matter what they said to him, it's not OK for him to "slap" them. By the way, have you ever been slapped open handed to the side of your head by a man twice your size? This can cause deafness, brain damage, etc. Do you care about that? Nope, just defend the violent rowdy drunk. You say " It really sickens me at the "they must have done something wrong attitude". But you defend this guy attacking them based on "a slap is a reaction." Which is exactly the same argument. They must have done something wrong to provoke him, so he slapped them. Escalating to violence was his choice. He paid the price is how it looks to me, as hooligans tend to do. I don't have the full story, but at least I'm going by the evidence presented.
  14. This is money in the pockets of the ultra-wealthy, in expensive deals with foreign governments involving kickbacks and bribes, one can assume. It has nothing to do with improving the lives of Thai people. That went out of style when half-shirts and dog-leash girlfriends came in.
  15. Looks like the fat guy swung first. Som nam na. He's way bigger, he's with his big son, he's already clearly causing a disturbance, then he takes a swing. Thais are gonna swarm you man, didn't anyone tell ya?
  16. OK first, you can't find one in advance if you're so worried about it? And second, if he's a lawbreaking fugitive, why the kid gloves? TIT baby
  17. So when the foxes checked the henhouse, they found zero foxes? OK, I'm reassured.
  18. Wow, let me get this straight, for only 600k ฿ I get a golf court ride, free luggage handling, expedited line passage, and a free very nice taxi! Absolutely unimaginable than anyone would pass up such a deal!
  19. Absolutely, without any other information, I'm guessing this was HIGHLY provoked. I don't fear for my safety when I pass ladyboys personally.
