  1. Work permits are issued inside Thailand by the labour office. You will need a non-immigrant ( normally non-B ) visa to get a work permit, but can apply for one before leaving the country to get your visa and use the work permit application letter to add to the rest of the documentation when applying.

Once you have your visa, and you meet all the criterias, you will be issued with your work permit.

I already have the B Visa, and have been working here for many years, and have been renewed my work permit many times already, but due to certain stupid circumstances, I missed the due date so have to do it all over again.

But I already have the B visa, but the lady at immigration talked to my thai admin, and told her, I needed to leave the country, and re entry, even though I already have a B Visa. Not sure why.

or is it that the B Visa got cancelled because my work permit expired, so I need to re apply for that as well!?

You say you have been here many years ?

Do you have a "Visa" or an extension of stay based on working ?

Do you have to leave the country every 90 days or do you report to immigration every 90 days?

Extension of stay, a permit to stay, never have to leave the country usually.

It sounds as though your WP expired and as a result you were not able to get another extension of stay (which is not a visa.)

I believe you have been told you will need to obtain another Visa with paperwork supplied by your employer.

Until you have a visa you will not be able to get a work permit.

  3. i have been visiting thailand every month for the past 2 years..

have about 12 visits at least each year.. never had any issues...

however each visit is only 5 days max...

any new rules im not aware about??

I am surprised they had not asked you any questions as you would hit the 6 plus per year limit.... Or is that just a myth!!

    Is that on visa exempt?

    There is no limit !

Immigration Officers may ask if someone appears to be making excessive use of visa exempt entries. Not a problem for those in possession of cash and a ticket out of Thailand.

  4. You are a great friend to this guy.

He will need a police report about the stolen/lost passport. Making that report will not cause a problem but he will need to retain( and keep copies) of the police report.

Eventually the overstay will show up and he will have to be able to pay the fine of 500 Bht/day to a max of 20,000 Bht.

Emergency travel documentation is issued rapidly (sorry, I cannot remember the exact timescale ) by the British Embass at a cost of <>£100

The Embassy will contact relatives (no charge) if required and they will also accept money sent from the UK and attempt to ensure it is used for the purpose intended.

This man needs no "papers" from immigration.

If needed a medical consultation should not be more than 1-2000 Bht and if the man is displaying florid symptoms an appropriate prescription will not add much to the cost.

I hope it all works out.

  5. I am saying this because I am in contact with forum loads of people who wasted months sometimes years in psychiatry when they just needed anti parasite treatment. The saddest is when it happens to kids, they can't properly express what's going on and end up in psychiatric wards when they are just infected.

Do you want to be that person who took the responsibility to send him to psychiatry?

These places are easier to get in than out

Give your friend some credit and do try to find out what's his infection.

I am personally dealing with a parasite that does have neuro and psy consequences.

If I had not taken things in hands I could have ended like your friend

I know it could go pretty bad if I don't take care but it is possible to manage parasites.

Yes, I want to be that person who sends this chap to a psychiatrist for assessment and treatment. If that turns out to be wrong, nothing bad has happened.

Actually, those places are harder to get IN than OUT, unless you are an emergency, with a waiting list of up to two months.

Getting out is quick and easy, you just tell the doctor you're leaving against medical advice, and unless you have been diagnosed as being a danger to yourself or others, that's it.

The chances of a theoretical infection being overlooked here are pretty slim. It'll be the first thing he tells them, pointing to the dried spot of scab on his forehead where he is

suspecting the next "exit wound" (when it looks like scar tissue with a little indentation where he supposedly dug at it with his fingernail.)

I actually just met him to talk things over, and I dug a bit into his former life in the UK. Has been repeatedly out of work for depressions, always as an outpatient.

Reciting a list of medications I know to see if any of them rang a bell he answered positive on citalopram and lithium. The latter is probably bad news, not necessarily though.

So yes, psychiatry it is. In any event.

Probably best not to engage with a likely troll.

I read and understood what was being said with absolutely no difficulty.

You should be congratulated for your efforts to help this gentleman.

I am awaiting a detailed response from "kitsune" but doubt I (we) will receive one (post No. 46)

I know of a fifteen year old that was recently treated for porkworm, which had attacked her brain. ( Chiang Mai, treatment June 2015 ). The condition is inoperable - apparently they have killed the worm(s) using medication. It was explained to me that the girl continues to have fits ( that's what drew attention to her condition, and as Kitsune said, it took a while to obtain a proper diagnosis ). It's believed that the severity of the fits could prove fatal at any time

As for the worm, I believe it's still within her skull cavity, and they are waiting/hoping for the body to break it down. Some of this info could be lost in translation.

You seem keen to get an accurate medical diagnosis? why? do you think you are suffering from parasites? How long have you been in Thailand? when was the last time you were tested?

Read all about "porkworm" in the link ...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichinosis

A link to the published detail of the case you mention would be welcome.

  7. Immigration have the power to refuse entry if they feel there is sufficient reason which can be any of thousands of different things. They are as we all know a division of the police.

Not "thousands of different things" ! .....................................

See post number 12 for detail.

New to Thailand? Would appear so. Just like police can detain you if they have reasonable cause. Reasonable cause is open to interrprutation

I have been here in Thailand for a very long time . I have never been detained by the Police or experienced difficulty with Immigration.

Is your comment related to personal experience ?

  8. Quick Update:

Got my Retirement Visa today from Phuket (Extension of Stay to be precise)

Got an agent to do it and I believe there might have been some Tea money involved ....COUGH C O U G H !

I handed in my Passport, copy of 30 year Lease, Bank Book, Bank letter stating balance, Bank stamped Statement of 2-3 months (I was told 2, I got 3)

I went in had my photo taken at 1.45pm as pre-booked and left 5 minutes later....

    Job done.

Now I don't think it was particular the best THB I have spent but since I was changing address and changing from Non-Imm B Guardian to Non-Imm O Retired, I thought it worth it.

Will try on my own next year (as I have done generally in the past)

    Cheers

    SB

    Interesting !

Seems you did all the leg work associated with the application and an "agent" profited from your efforts.

Maybe I am missing something here coffee1.gif

  9. Many thanks all & I do appreciate your help and advice! Now I understand it and yes I am applying for a Multi entry 'O' visa under the UK state pension rules. One last question (I promise!) can I leave and reenter on the same day or must every exit and reenter involve, at minimum, an overnight stay away? I ask this as sometimes we (Thai g/f and her family) have day trips to Mae Sai and Mae Sot. Thank you.

Out and back on the same day if you wish or spend a few days "abroad"............ entirely your choice.

  10. ukrules

One report by one person does not represent a "major escalation"

I even doubt we have been told the whole story associated with this alleged denial of entry.

Perhaps the OP will post a scan of what is stamped/written in the passport to clarify the issue.

Yes that is very true .. I am sure there is more to this story maybe the OP needs to let us know ..

Also as per an old post on here previously someone got asked questions from an IO supervisor upon entering and was told if you visit on a visa exempt entry 6 times in ONE YEAR then you are flagged up .

I believe it's maybe one year or could be past twelve months ?

Anyone entered more than 6 times in 12 months or calendar year?

I have friend who returns every other month for about 20- 25 days. He was spoken to once by an immigration officer about his frequent use of visa exempt entries. Being able to demonstrate he was married to a Thai, in possession of money and a return ticket removed any curiosity the IO might have had.

He has never been stopped again.

  11. Thank you for the replies, appreciate

So no need to worry about re-entry visas

What does one do about being in overstay from the time the work permit expires/gets cancelled and the extension of stay ends?

    You can

    1. Leave the country on the day you cease work.

    Or

    2. Apply for a seven day extension at immigration.

The work extension is invalid from the day work ceases, there is no need for any overstay.

What is the name of this "parasite" you are dealing with, how was it diagnosed and what is the treatment. ?
