  1. Sorry about the knee ............

In the absence of trauma there are two possible causes

    1. A degenerative disease process (arthritis including gout !)

    2. An infective process . If the knee is swollen and hot then urgent medical advice should be sought.

If 2. is not applicable the advice given by Sheryl is good and will see you ok until you see a Dr.

  2. Not saying it the case with this particular medication but it is certainly true that many potentially beneficial medications and never given proper trials in the US for a host of reasons having nothing to do with their validity.

Profit potential trumps benefit potential. Proper clinical trials are hugely expensive. Many medications waiting in the wings have complicated patent, supply and sourcing issues that make them to risky for big pharma to invest in. They only want to sell what they clearly own and can license.

I would think that the most beneficial things the UN could do would be to take over pharmaceutical clinical trials...but, of course, big pharma would never allow that to happen.

Interestingly the Pharmaceutical Industry manufacture many medications which are both cheap and only marginally profitable.

The conspiracy theories about "Big Phama" are 10 a penny , boring and idiotic.

  3. You will not be able to obtain an "O" visa based on marriage until you are actually married and have the marriage certificate provided by whichever Amphur you get married in.

Once you have the marriage certificate it would perhaps be better to obtain the "O" visa from somewhere like Savannakhet , Vientiane or Penang. .In addition to the marriage cert. you will need signed copies of your wife's house book and ID.

It is theoretically possible to convert a tourist visa entry to an "O" visa entry but only in Bangkok and it will involve two trips to immigration to achieve.

If you are living in Korat you must use the local immigration office.

All foreigners staying longer than 90 days in Thailand are required to make a report to

    immigration every 90 days,

It will be your future brother/sister in laws responsibility to report your presence in their house to immigration using a TM30 form.

A copy of the " affirmation of freedom to marry" may be asked for when applying for the first extension of stay.

A search of the Thai Visa site will reveal much more information about getting married to a Thai in Thailand.

  4. Does you friend have an employer? Iff so the employer should be taking care of these issues.

Your friend will need substantial paperwork from the employer and a receipt which indicates the employer has applied for the work permit before a visa will be issued within the region.

The pre applied for work permit will be issued once the visa has been obtained.

  5. YES !

    I suggested this yesterday !

    1. You need a completed application form and passport photos.

    2. You need copies of your passport data page and relevant visas.

    3. You need evidence of having 800,000 Bht in a Thai bank.

    4. You need sufficient cash in Malaysian ringgit to pay the fee for the visa ................

  6. I have the same visa. Had a visit from the Immigration Police 2 weeks ago. They checked my passport and said my visa (from Savannaket, Lao) was OK for now, but I can't keep renewing it every year and that I must come and see them before I go for a renewal early next year. Not sure if the rules are changing. Anyone else had a similar situation recently ?

Which immigration office did these "Immigration Police" represent?

There has been no National statement about any change of "rules"

A new single/multiple entry "O" visa can be obtained as frequently as is required. As long as the applicant can meet the requirements for the visa it will be issued.

When 3 guys dressed in black, carrying guns, a black pickup with the police symbol on the doors, uniforms full of badges, including the para badge, knock on your door then you tend to believe what they say. Not sure if this is a potential tea-money earner, but talking to the local expats it might just be that. I know the "rules" seem to vary from office to office, but this sounded national, but then again from your reply (and thank you for that) it may be just a local idea to generate some funds !!!

If armed guys dressed in black are visiting you should seriously review the activities indulged in and the "friends/company" associated with.

  7. I have just completed a 90 day on line report for a friend who swore the system was "useless"

Completed without issue today (Saturday) and the application is now Pending. I will check next week to determine progress but I believe his report will be approved by Phuket Immigration.

I suspect that at least some of the problems being experienced are caused by "operator error" . My friend sat very quietly (unusual ! ) as he watched me easily complete and submit his report in less than five minutes.

"This is the procedures for a business (hotel/guest house) to obtain permission to submit online guest registration"

What is so difficult to understand?

The on line reporting system is ONLY available to qualifying Businesses ! Reports are made by Businesses ON-LINE not via a CD!

The system is in use. A friend of mine who owns a hotel business has one of his front desk employees enter new guests details on the system every day !

Yes I have seen the system being used !

Wives and Mothers do not qualify for access to the system.!

If I understand what you are saying there is a website where this information is downloaded to one Thai government department?

25 million tourists per year and given a number of hotel changes that is roughly 4 million hours of data entry work.

Do you see why I find it difficult to understand?

I know nothing about the technical detail of the system only that it exists and is used !

  11. Thanks everyone, my partners application got denied and I got 60 days. We are now planning on getting him 30 days at arrival, extend that for another 30 days at immigration office and then take a bus to Laos, to both get 60 ays multiple entry, which we will then extend. That means we have to leave the country twice but therefore we can stay 6 months. I hope we got it all right now.

Just as a matter of interest what reason was given for denying a visa to your Australian partner ?

Applications for tourist visas are very rarely declined and then only for very good reason.

There is no "multiple entry" tourist visa!

The best you can apply for is a double (two entry) visa

  12. I think you misunderstand (or me) but I think they want to say if you here in thailand and you go to the office ask for an extention for ex 50 days before the end, they will ask you to come back and do it in the last 30 days. nothing to do with arrive in Thailand

Kind of asking nowretired to possibly elaborate on that 30 days “rule” to see if it’s strictly enforced by most immigration offices or else. I’m just curious to hear some more comments about it if anyone has any.

My previous post implied I was going to be already in Thailand when applying for the extension.

    Cheers

Some offices are known to process extensions up to 45 days prior to the expiry of the permission to stay date. You should ask what the policy of your local immigration office is ..........

  13. Hello,

You can go to the immigration office and pay 1,900B to extend your 60-day tourist visa

for 30 days and stay in Thailand for a total of 90 days.

Your Aussie partner has to leave Thailand once, though. She can go to Vientiane or

Savannakhet in Laos to apply for a 60-day tourist visa before her 30-day tourist visa

expires. She can get only 15 days if she does a border run because she' not from a

G-7 country, I'm afraid. Also I wonder if she can extend her 30-day visa for 30 days,

leave the country and then come back here on a visa-exempt stamp.

I can see no point in buying a 30-day tourist visa because she can get a visa-exempt

stamp if she arrives in Thailand by air that allows her to stay here for 30 days (for free).

There are no 30 day tourist visas which can be bought !

If the thread had been read and understood you would have appreciated the fact that several TV members are attempting to understand exactly what this couple have in their passports.

  14. There is a statutory requirement for the money to have been in the bank for two months.

Phuket requires a letter from bank, an updated bank book and 3 months bank statements certified by the bank.

Will you have an "O" visa on Sept 8 ?

Without the "O" visa you cannot ask for an extension. Immigration may refuse to process an application if more than 30 days validity remain on the permission to stay obtained from the "O" visa.

I have no idea about KL but do know an "O" visa can be obtained from Vientiane or Penang.

You could visit the immigration office in Phuket town and ask about their specific requirements.
