It's the best thing that ever happened to us.
We're much more affectionate and into each other with a little distance between us (about 2 meters). I pretty much never initiate seeing her, she texts me if she wants to hang out. Sometimes (seldom) I demur.
I'm getting a ton more done for myself, like finally learning Thai (via the ThaiPod website). She's playing the piano again. (she's western, not Thai).
I typically pop over for breakfast (which she enjoys making for me) and then don't see her again till about 6 for dinner and a bit of Netflix. I sleep in her bed maybe 3-4 nights a week, her in mine 1-2, and then sometimes it's great for either of us to just take a pass.
LIving Apart Together is now a huge trend among older couples. It saves a lot of relationships from divorce.
We were just too in each other's faces for too long and became a bit co-dependent. I am reminded of an old country song: How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?
Have You? Would you? Why or why not?
My wife recently bought a second home for her and her parents to live in as financially it makes more sense.
She now live predominantly with her parents around 15mins away. At the moment I work some huge hours, up to &0hrs a week so I rarely see her other than a few ours here and there and she may stay with me 1 or 2 nights a week or less.
For me it’s absolutely fantastic. I can work and come home to a quiet, clean house (her mum leans twice a week) and she gets all the time in the world to watch crappy tv series and relax after work each dayAdd in the extra bonus of her and her family eventually owning another asset over our previous primary residence it’s a perfect situation

My wife and I have had an MG5 for just on two years. It’s a cheap and cheerful motor that does everything you’d want and expect for a mid size, mid priced sedan (689000฿)
We’ve done 40000km of city and open road driving now and the only issue we’ve had was a noisy fuel pump in the first month of ownership.
It’s a little heavy on fuel compared to Hondo r Toyota (8-11/km) but that’s to be expected from the spec of the car IMOI find it comfortable, low road noise, decent sound system, excellent aircon.
We’re both happy with our purchase -

Got mine in 1988; never regretted it. A tedious uphill walk the bureaucracy mountain of your home country as well as Thailand but once you have it, forget all the stamps, permits, TM1-100; the only thing they want afterwards is a re-entry permit (should you wish to leave the country) and a quick visit at the police station every five years. During Covid I did not leave Thailand and hence did not see a single immigration or any other government agency during the whole time.
I hope to obtain a work permit in the very near future and start the process to naturalisation.
I’ve been told by pretty much everyone, thai and foreigner, don’t waste my time, it’s too difficult, the system is against you and so on.
I’m ready for the years long uphill climb

I’ve had a warranty claim on a 65000฿ Virtual Reality head set after purchasing from an online reseller.
I contacted HTC directly after instruction from the online reseller. It was a bit of a ball breaker but ultimately I had the failed part replaced under warranty. It certainly wasn’t a simple process and I ended up going the the manufacturer head office in BKK, from Pattaya, twice to resolve the issue.

But you are right, if a person is inclined to over-imbibe there is no point in buying a policy that doesn't cover those circumstances.
The policies I’ve seen and used usually have a blood alcohol content maximum that voids cover

What I have made from my investments far exceeds what, if any rise property has had in Thailand since then.
I don't rent, I build a nice big and comfortable house, yes, as far as the law goes, it's the wife's, and yes I could challenge that and prove that I paid for it and maybe, just maybe get 50% back if we ever split, hardly worth the exercise after lawyers and court fees so it would be all hers.
As the saying goes, only invest as much as your prepared to lose, and for me personally investing in property in Thailand is a BIG NO, having had a property background all of my life, it is too easy to get scammed here, even your own lawyer will sell his soul to the other side.
Sure heaps of foreigners have pushased and are happy with their purchases, and there would be a fair few who we wouldn't hear about that got scammed.
More money to be made elsewhere than property here IMO.
I could have also rented and still made good money after my rent was paid, suffice to say, buying property here is not an investment, i.e. if your looking for a small return, e.g. on average over the past 7 years I have made 18% net per annum on my investments, so I doubt my return on property here would be anywhere near that.
But each to there own, no rights, no wrongs, if it fits, wear it.
I bought a house with my wife as a ‘forever’ home and to give myself room for my cars and bikes. I could probably have found a property I could negotiate areas to modify for paint and panel work but in the end I chose the path of least resistance and headaches and just bought.
My house was listed at 7mil, dropped to 6 as it had sat for 12 months and we then closed that deal at 5.I used a highly recommended lawyer from a big firm (foreign owned and managed) and negotiated terms directly with the vendor.
Like you, as you know, I invest my money mostly elsewhere so I approached the vendor for a short term vendor mortgage which was agreed on. 3mil down, 1mil over 3 years at 2%, final payment 1mil (rough figured obviously) and kept my money working for me.
When it came to land transfer I stipulated that the chanote was to be transferred to my wife on down payment of the 3mil, the mortgage to be recorded on the back of the chanote (did my research), had my lawyers inspect the contracts drawn up by the vendor and attended the land department office with the vendor on the day of transfer. I left absolutely nothing up to anyone else or without my direct supervision
Everything went to plan, no hiccups or surprises. And as an added bonus, we’ll two actually. With the 1mil final payment swinging in the breeze the vendor approached me about 12 months into the mortgage period asking if they could access the final payment early to ‘upgrade machine’ at their factory.
A bit if back and forth and I managed to secure a further 235000฿ discount on the total cost of the property. A nice, cheeky returnAdd to that I got in on the bottom floor at the start of the short lived lithium boom recently and paid the remainder out of the profits from a speculative Aussie lithium ‘miner’ (ASX:LKE)
So all in all for me a very positive experience. I was very involved in the whole process, I did my research and left nothing up to anyone else to ‘take care of’. It’s the only way to do things here
And like you, if it doesn’t work out with the wife I’ll probably just move on

The Canadian embassy in Bkk issues new passports quickly (2 weeks). I've had a couple done there. A friend's son got one done fast last month. Not sure why your friend couldn't renew his in 3 months. Extension of stays end upon passport expiry.
A close friend had a similar issue renewing his Canadian passport. Issues with identification and communication issues with the BKK embassy.
Long story short, expired visa, many months overstay, 150K฿ to get around the issue via an ‘agent’
It does sound like there are some issues with renewals there ????????♂️- 1

I got married 20.02.2020 at the Banglamung Tesaban in what was very quick and painless.
-booked an appointment at my embassy-trip to BKK to obtain the freedom to marry doc, at the Aus embassy in my case.
The staff directed me to the translation service almost directly next door. I paid a little extra and came back just after lunch to collect
-off I go to the MFA office at Khlong Toei MRT station. Missed same day, requires morning drop off (again directed by the embassy staff)
-returned to the MFA office at 10am then back to Pattaya-a week later lined up at Banglamung Tesaban, got a number, waited. Had an interview with the district head, paid a few hundred baht (plus extra for the nice book and copies of my marriage certificate), waited some more and we were done.
All in all a few days and maybe 5000฿

So that's the problem I'm having in VT7, they cut a deal and it's cable only and I shouldn't complain because it's 50Mbps down. But it's barely enough today. Tomorrow? I doubt it.
I organised the telco to install fibre to my 7th floor condo only to be told by juristic that fibre can ‘push’ data up 5 floors, 7 is too high
No amount of arguing, information or frustration would change their mind

Whatever the faults of my Thai wife, she earned her own money, paid for her own diesel ( unless it was on a trip with me that I wanted to go on ), etc. She even paid for her own booze at a restaurant. I paid for the food and my drink, but I refused to pay for her alcohol.
She worked really hard too, so no complaints about expecting me to pay for everything. Her family were the ones that expected me to give them money for nothing.
My wife is similar. Doesn’t drink or smoke but all family money needs and issues stop at her, I’m fully insulated. Makes for an enjoyable and relaxed life here

Depends on the wind strength and direction and rain. No rain and gentle wind from the N drives pollution from crop burning in the N towards Pattaya. Rain and wind from the S over the sea drives pollution away. Particularly bad this year as can be seen by smoke drifting across route 7 from the hills to the N of Pattaya. Don't understand why anybody would want to burn hillsides like this although I read that Thais do this either to clear land for planting or drive out animals for the pot.
