Optimistic thoughts of daring to return to LOS a dashed again

when reading this sort of news, its like they hate us, the critters

also hate us, had scorpion in the loo, a 12" poisonous centipede

tickle my feet, and a snake under the table, mozzies eating me,

lucky not to get Dengie,    Nah, stuff it, not going back.

Utter bs, there is an Interpol Red Notice on his name, and so he should be arrested and returned to Thailand, but he hasn't! Several people even claim to have seen him in Abu Dhabi celebrating Max Verstappen's (stolen) championship! But he wasn't arrested, guess why!?

With a net worth of over $24.5 billion in the family, they are extremely wealthy. Jeffrey Epstein was a nobody in comparison with only $577 million, and still managed to corrupt justice in the US for quite some time.

WISE is very expensive for large transfer, 2 or 3 times the price of SWIFT, killing any advantages of best THB rates you could get

therefore avoid like the plague for 10K or more,

Absolutely disagree. When transferring 2mil baht a couple of times I explored all options and was close to 60000 baht better off with Wise than anyone else at that time.
I’ve transferred close to half a million Australian dollars in 3 years and have found Wise rates better every time, even including their fee.

It is impossible to time the stock market, so I always keep my money in the SP500.

Since I was born it has averaged 8.6% without the dividend returns and over 10.5% with dividends added.

I like those odds and invest for long-term even at age 57.

Last year many people tried to time the market and got out.

Pre dividends, the SP500 was up 26.89% in 2021.

Yes, I lost some money so far in 2022, but over the last 2 years I have funds in there to cover any stock market corrections.

You only lose money if you overreact and sell when it is down.  It will always rebound over time.

I came here to say exactly this. Quality reply

Because asymptomatic people don't spread the virus?

The only stupid thing from the authorities is not allowing those who can to self-isolate at home.  Do that and it would encourage the more sensible to test regularly.

Some, of course, will continue to deny there is any problem, and go "blah, blah, blah" when shown evidence otherwise - like part of the UK and USA health systems becoming overwhelmed.  It is a little bit of a shame that Darwin's Law will be unlikely to help.

I had a very similar problem. Using my USA card for Lazada for years.  Than, wham, would not work.  Not  because of the card company.  I had a go around over and over with Lazada with them asking me to send in certain information.  Which I did and got the same request.  Finally I had enough and cancelled my account.

I understand and accept most of the replies but I have not changed my method of transfer in years. No matter what day or what time of the day the transfer from Santander to Wise was literally seconds.

I did notice this morning though that the Santander transfer setup was quite different to in the past but still only took a couple of minutes from entering the site to get the message of successful transfer.

Instant transfer from my Australian bank to Wise, took seconds. Wise then had the cash for 3 days, then the thai side had it for 2 days. Total of 404000 baht took a total of 6 working days to transfer.

I’ve transferred close to half a million Australian dollars over the last 3 years and this has been easily the biggest delay

A few thoughts on this article. (1) It's really unfortunate that personal finance isn't taught in schools. People should have access to this info. If someone will translate and distribute I'll write/teach a beginners course for free.

    (2) The quoted guy is right. Budgeting is critical and prioritizing the savings bucket before allocating the spending bucket is also the right move.

But at the same time like, if you're earning 30,000 and saving 10% that's like...$100 per month. Better than nothing but probably not gonna get you to where you want to be, either.

Man I hate these coffee examples (not sure why everyone uses coffee as the example). Specifically because saving 50 THB/day isn't enough to move the needle. 50*365 = 18,250 in increased savings per year. Less than $1,000. Like, I get that it's an illustrative example, but damn - everyone seems to paint coffee as the spending villain. Maybe I'm just triggered because I buy a lot of coffee ????

Anyway this brings me to the final point: (3) cutting spending is bounded on the lower end by zero. Can't spend less than 0. But increasing earnings really has no upper limit. Teaching people to be responsible with their money is important, but I feel that part of that financial responsibility ought to be making sure that you have enough income to live a good life while also being responsible on the savings/investment front.

The art of personal finance is walking the line between living well today and planning for the future. Starting early and expanding income is the best way to make sure you can do both.

I like my coffee like my women, cheap and from a 3rd world country

No, it was an awkward moment -- she was waiting for a wai from me that was not forthcoming. I was expecting a wai from her. It was more or less a breakdown of wai expectations.

What followed was a delayed and sort of fumbled co-wai. Neither she nor my wife looked happy about it.
