Hua HIn Immigration . score 100%
worrab replied to Luuk Chaai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I went to Hua Hin at the end of November to renew my extension of stay based on retirement. I had booked an appointment online which proved to be a worthwhile option. Arrived around 09.30 for the 10.00 booking and had all papers checked downstairs before going up to the Office. Very busy!! Saw the female IO sitting by a sign stating Online Appointments, showed her my booking and was told to take a seat. There were at least 5 or 6 in front of me for the renewal but within 5 minutes I was called to the counter and proceeded to have my paperwork dealt with. All done and dusted by 10.20 and certainly back up the OP with the 100% comment as has always been the case here. Very efficient and polite making this Office one of the top 5 in the Country based on comments made on this forum. Well done Hua Hin. -
Sleepy driver crashes into power pole and home in Thalang
worrab replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
A pick up truck is a a vehicle with a normally open load bay at the rear with either a 2 man or a crew cab, engine at the front under a bonnet. That in the picture is a small delivery truck which is totally different. You can tell by looking at the cab showing the engine will be under the cab. -

That is not a pickup!! Good reporting as usual..........lol. -
We have never had problems with Kerry. They either call beforehand or send me a message to state they will be delivering. These are for CODs by the way. Even for just a straightforward delivery and no cash involved we still get a phone call. If we are out then they are told to leave it in the basket by the gate which they always do. Perhaps it is because we have a regular driver and this makes the difference.

Last month MIL had 145 units which worked out at 3.76. Our house used 190 which works out at 3.92. October bills, MIL used 124 units which came to 3.72. We used 259 which equated to 4.08. So there is plenty of variation here in Bang Saphan Noi.
-
Here in Bang Saphan Noi once you have added service charge, then there is a discount for some reason and then add in VAT the charge works out at 3.76 per unit.

I reckon that this bus is too old to have such a function. It seems that exhaust brakes are an unknown quantity over here and I have only ever heard one operating on a hill in the 7 years I have been here. Being a retired HGV driver, I cannot understand why retarders and the like are not more common. Maybe they are fitted but nobody has shown drivers how to use them??? They make a heck of a difference when used correctly on your braking. 44 tonnes down from Tunnel de Frejus into Italy on a winding mountain road on an exhaust brake is an absolute must otherwise brake fade and worse will occur.
-
Might be a simplistic answer but even including your statement, all these things should be taken into consideration. And if he knew the road then why did it runaway. I too suspect that his approach was too fast, had not come down the gearbox and relied on brakes which were going to fade rapidly. Who teaches these drivers and tests their capabilities? If at all!!

I do agree with you but the way that Thais obtain their licences leaves a lot to be desired. Start with the basics by getting that correct and things may improve. The system is a complete joke as we all know and have written about this fact so many times. There is no way that this form of training, and I use this word very lightly, is acceptable in this day and age. Things have changed since the day of buffalo and cart!! Then the police could go out with patrols, unheard of I know, and catch the chancers with no licences, drinks or drugs. But this is all in cloud cuckoo land as we all know.

I am due to go to Immigration at the end of the week for an extension of stay. I already have a 12 month statement from Bangkok Bank which I requested through my branch last week. This covers from the date of my last extension granted date (2nd Dec) up to the date of the request for the statement. Then to fill the gap, I will go in the day before going to Hua Hin to obtain the letter and a 6 month statement. I also put the passbook in for an update. The account I use for the extension is purely for that reason and does not get touched from year to year. Only interest payments and account fees show up. All bases are covered and even though some may think overkill, I have no problems with this routine.

Meant to have stated that this was with Emirates. Apologies for that omission. But I do like your reply.
-
The algorithm was not working earlier this year! I bought my flight for around 80,000 THB in January for BKK to LHR return Business Class flying July. In the 3 months or so preceding July, the price had gone up to 140,000 THB. So I would not trust this system at the moment.
-
I think you will find that doing this will make little difference as you are taken to the airline site based in the country of origin of your flight.
-
You are right about cheap flights but the cheaper seats are just not around. I have booked in Oct for next July with Emirates for over 3000 pounds Business Class. But all the extras plus flight times suit me perfectly. But I did search around and funnily enough they were not the most expensive. Etihad, Qatar, Thai and KLM were more whereas the likes of Swiss or Austrian did come in cheaper. But you get what you pay for.

Regarding the future and the price of flights, this makes an interesting read. (Hope admin allow this link which does actually come from The Wall Street Journal. This was the only way to get the material unless you sign up to WSJ). https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bangkokpost.com%2Fbusiness%2F2434304%2Fdont-expect-cheap-airfares-to-come-back-soon-airline-executives-say%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR1TD0et1hio-DhPdlEG2JJW88WX606YT3pfOcbMZ5d1yQbhVPfbUAXF4l8&h=AT38qdmHgrbCIPraC2z300V6ee05AYj1sggJjVr9X_Q-cDcyWgHi5roXG1iHFWY7X8ygwrMuSgCTTvvCrcvFEfBL3WR0PHF343bVRuRyp19D-YoSbeD0X0_BHwd7zj6hxlu9&__tn__=R*F

No TM6 card on entry
worrab replied to Laphroaig27's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Absolutely no worries. I came back from UK in July and then went in person in October to do my 90 day report. Just had to point out the entry stamp in the passport and all done. -
CW extension retirement report.
worrab replied to DrJack54's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have 800k in a dedicated account with Bangkok Bank but still have to get statements. I get a 12 month statement which will always fall short because this has to come through Head Office. So I top up with an up to date 6 monthly statement as well. This is acceptable to the IO and is no real hassle to obtain. -
Pray do tell exactly who is going to enforce this law. We never see any patrol cars on the roads and Highway Police only tug trucks or pick ups for tea money. A total waste of another what could be a life saver law that just will not be enforced along with helmets, wrong side of road driving, under age drivers etc.

Thailand has the highest number of privately owned guns in ASEAN
worrab replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Let us remember that this was the murder of innocent sleeping children so there will be an uproar and rightly so!! No comparison whatsoever to road deaths!! -
I think it is somewhat stronger than shouldering some responsibility. As far as I can ascertain, the RTP need to fully investigate their actions or lack of over the years. No normal police force would have tolerated this behaviour and he would have been sacked and possibly sent for psychiatric treatment. It can be said that inaction by RTP has actually led to this happening and in more ways that one, this ineffective police force across the board needs a complete shakeup from the top downwards. But I will not hold my breath!!

Plenty of Moderna about. Yesterday I had my 4th jab which was Moderna. This was free as it was part of a 4000 dose donation given to THG Chumphon on behalf of the King 9. This was to thank all people in the Kingdom for remembering him and making merit in his memory and other donations have been made country wide.

Does it make sense to check different car dealers?
worrab replied to plus7's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Have had the Honda Jazz with CVT transmission for 7 years and over 100,000kms without a hint of problems. Regularly serviced by Honda. Have now the CVT again with the new Xpander as that is all you can get now unless you live in the Philippines and across all makes it is becoming the norm for transmission now -

Forgot to add that I got the normal first year car insurance and road tax within my deal for the Xpander. And the tinted windows.
