  1. I would also like to know about health insurance for a thai person comming to australia on a tourist visa. Do they have to show they have health insurance before the tourist visa will be issued? if so sould they purchase that in thailand and how much?

  2. I was about to post a similar thread. I spent three months in Thailand May-June-July this year, and the aussie dollar was averaging 30+ baht during my stay. Ok I would not be keeping such a close eye on the exchange rate if I wasnt sending a little bit of money to my GF every month, but I am and the state of the Aussie dollar is pathetic. From my understanding the Australian dollar is a commodity-based currency, and because of the global financial slowdown commodity prices are falling and so is the aussie dollar.

  3. Hello, I want to know if anyone in Australia has a sattelite dish and is able to recieve any thai channels. From the research I have done, Thaicom 5 at 78.5°E (lyngsat) is available but Im not sure if you can pick any thai channels up in Australia.

As long as you have the gear (dish, receiver etc...) you can align you dish to access the Thai TGN free channels. Topfield satellite receivers are good.

You can align to Optus D2 satellite.

    Satellite : = OPTUS D2 at 152 E (same position)

Downlink Frequency (for tuning channel)= 12706.5 MHz

    Downlink Frequency System : = 12733.5 MHz

    Polarization : = Vertical (same)

    Symbol Rate : = 22.500 Ksps

    Forward Error Correction : (FEC) = 3/4

    More info at :

    http://www.thaitvglobal.com

You can alternatively access several thai channels over the internet. Google it.

Does Thai TGN free channels have those thai soap operas?

  4. About Skype, I to use it, and it does look pretty dodgy in the exel format, but im sure many people must use skype so surely they have seen it before. I know my mate here in Australia used skype as evidence for his swiss wife to be approved for a spouse visa. It would be nice if they made it look a bit more professional, more like when you view your history online, before convertng it to exel.

  5. Obviously neither him nor you know that you CANNOT own land here in Thailand. Why would you think he could have his name on the deed?

Whilst a foreigner cannot own land in Thailand it is possible to have your name of the land title (chanote). I did, and it gave me much security.

If you lend money for the purchase (or bailing out ) of the land, you can be the mortgagor, and have your name shown as such on the chanote. Also since you have advanced money on the land, you are entitled to hang on to the chanote in the same way a bank would do.

It cannot be sold until you sign that you have received your loan back. You are then in the driving seat!

As far as I am aware that is correct.... you can never own the land, but you can hold the Chanote for an outstanding loan, if the loan is repaid you surrender the Chanote to the borrower, if it isn't repaid, you can transfer the debt via the Chanothe to another person (preferably Thai, and the borrower really doesn't want that to happen)

You can control who owns the land, but you can't own it yourself, just the paperwork.

Next year my girlfriend wants me to pay an outstanding loan of her mothers, I did not want to do this, and have not agreed to do it so far. I would however consider it if I could transfure the loan from her current creditor and get her to sign a loan contract with me instead. Can anyone reccommend a Thai lawyer who speaks fluent english and deals with farangs on a regular basis in matters such as this. Thankyou.

How big is the loan? If it's not tooo big, :D and your gf is "THE ONE" for you :o

    - just cash it out...........and you've gained yourself a special place in your future Thai family! :D

Anyway....for a lawyer, you could try Isaan Lawyers - one of the forum sponsors. :D

The loan is 230,000 baht. So not a small sum of money, if I marry her later there will be no sin sot that is for sure.

  7. wow thanks for you detailed reply, Im Australian and would probably say Rob-erts-soen not Rob-erts-son (like sun in sky)

I should add I'm going to stick with how you would personally write Robertson; ร็อบเบิร์ทเสิ่น

  8. You look massive in profile pic. Also what i saw last time in patong was, plenty of extraordinary physics. Seems phuket is becoming popular destination for bodybuilders than elsewhere in thailand including pattaya

I remeber patong gym selling low protein shakes for 100 bhat. Can someone tell me if i can buy quality proteins 10.7lbs bags like optimum somewhere in phuket? i don't want to bring them over with me, if i don't have to

    ^^^^

Back in 04' I was in Phuket and was training at patong gym, I was 21 and my eyes were opened to some impressive physiques. Thailand is the perfect place to train for many reasons, and Phuket is a great place in Thailand. As far as protein powder if i recall, it is extreemly expensive in Thailand, to the point of it not being worth your money. I put on 15kg's of lean body mass over there with just lots of quality Thai food......Not one shake in over 3 months.
