  1. I have travelled to a number of areas in Thailand and so far have been very disappointed at the very poor quality of vegetables in the major food stores. Often veggies are going rotten and covered in scabs which shocked me. What is your experience of buying veggies in Thailand.post-244188-0-35579300-1466421832_thumb.

  2. My Thai wife works as a medical lecturer for a university and has had to go away on a 3 day course with 40 other colleagues. When she and the others arrived by coach at the hotel venue they found that they were booked into shared twin bed rooms. My question is what rights does she have to refuse this sleeping arrangement as I know in the west very few employees would accept this. She has only worked at the university for less than a year so she is reluctant to stir up any problems. Additionally her contract hours are 8.30 pm to 4.00 pm but on this course she is expected to work up to 8.30 pm, this she doesn't have a problem. Her issue is loss of privacy having to share a twin room with another female colleague.

  3. I had a similar experience whilst living in Jakarta, the big difference is the bakery operations Dir and Sales director came to see me and made profuse apologies. The next day the family run bakery delivered a large box full of a selection of the different breads and pastries. I can't see any Thai bakeries doing this. Customer satisfaction is barely a factor considered by businesses here it seems.

  4. A word of advice for anyone needing translations for an affidavit to marry a Thai. We made the mistake of getting our affidavit translated at my wife's university where she works as they provide commercial translation services which are in fact more costly than those provided at the Thai Consul in Bangkok. We decided on using her university translation service on the basis it would save us time and hassle at the Thai consul as we wanted to go through the fast track process and get it all completed in under 5 hrs. It was a big mistake as when we submitted our paperwork with translations at the consul there were a number of errors, some which were the structure of the sentence. To be honest I think mostly the errors were a ploy to get us to use the local translation service in the consul building. So my advice is get any translations carried out at the first floor of the consular building at only approximately 400 thb per page. As they know what's exactly required and will ensure you get approval. But having said that we when we got the translation completeted and passed at the consul and then went to the amphur to get married. The official at the amphur pointed out that the translated affidavit had the wrong year, but luckily she amended the date and everything went smoothly.

  5. We were married 9 years ago, in the US. Bottom line is that she uses my surname in the US, and her Thai surname in Thailand.

When we were married, we did not immediately change my wife's surname to mine. Her original Social Security card was issued with her Thai surname, but 6 months later, we did a name change to make her middle name her Thai surname, and add my surname (e.g. FirstName ThaiSurname MySurname).

Her US driving license and US passport have been issued with the name as above (my surname).

Her Thai driving license, Thai ID and Thai passport all bear only her Thai surname. Each of these has been

renewed at least once since we've been married, with no problems at all.

Last year, we registered our US marriage at the local amphoe, with my wife keeping her Thai surname, so no change was required to any of her Thai credentials.

My Thai sister-in-law has a Western surname, and has experienced some difficulties in Thailand due to her name. Our "dual name" approach has caused zero problems for us.

What are the problems your sister-in-law experienced

  6. She did in fact want to adopt my surname, as when she completes her PhD studies we might consider relocating to a more affluent country in Asia such as Singapore. But we will see what happens here with the political situation and we see if Thailand dies start to pull itself out of the dark ages.

  7. I have just married a Thai and she is telling me she needs to change her ID card to her new married western name. Is it law that she has to have an iID card in her new married name. What are the pros and cons of changing her ID card to a western surname please reply if you have direct experiences in this.

  8. Its sometime since I saw any of the Walking Dead series or Game Of Thrones and I want to catch up but there are so many streaming sites which are shams and are linked to advertising links and you dont see the tv series. Can anyone give me a list of the 3 best streaming sites from here in Thailand to watch to watch the above series, I dont want any sites that require credit card details as I dont trust them.

  9. What is the law about having nudge bars fitted to the front and rear of your vehicle. I know in a high impact situation they can have a negative impact on your vehicles foes crumple zones. But in my experience most accidents are low impact around built up areas or some idiot reversing into your parked vehicle in the Tesco car park.

  10. Don't just take into account the weight of the bag but when you are punching the bag it will cause the bag to swing and jolt putting considerably more force on the ceiling rails. I think it would be only a matter of time before it gave way and came crashing down. See if the floor above the false ceiling is solid as if you have access to a hammer drill you could drill and fix a rawl bolt I to the ceiling

  11. Update on my affidavit to marry.... I have an appointment booked ar 8.45am and have been told by the British embassy that my affidavit will be stamped and signed at my appointment and I won't need to collect it the next day which is good news. I have been told there are translation services in a mall close to the British embassy, but there also translation services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs see below taken from other threads on this forum....

  12. 300 men plus other backup support services how much did that cost the Thai tax payers?. even worse is that the amount in fines would not cover the cost of their fuel to get to the beach and back.

Huh? They were being paid anyhow!

Are you one of those who seeks an excuse for not doing rather than finding a reason how to improve something? That is sad, really. I can only assume you're never been a "victim" of anything.

What I am trying to conveying is why it had to take 300 men to do this, surely no more than 25 would have been sufficient. To me 300 men is excessive I just wished I see the days when I see the police having a considerably higher profile on the streets and in police cars. Looking to find police patrol cars is like finding rocking horse poop.
