  1. Sadly it seems from many of the news articles on TV that violence against victims is an increasing occurrence in Thailand, but the truth is its the same for most countries. I am not a gun person and I tend to put greater emphasis on prevention methods that would deter most burglars or criminals. Which means good CCTV and alarms and good well trained dogs. Most criminals are opportunists and would rather select a more softer option . Having said that I do have weapons such as batons strategically placed.

  2. If there are rules I doubt they will be enforced, I have brought in so many odd things over the years and NEVER been stopped once, Petrol hedge cutters, petrol leaf blower, Palm trees, assorted food stuffs tools etc etc and I dont mean a bit I mean 50-60 kilos at a time in my luggage

How do you manage to get 50-60 kg that weight I am sure is checked in luggage... What's the tip not to get charged a huge amount for every kilo over your baggage allowance

  3. Has anyone any experience in getting a affidavit for marriage signed and stamped fast track. I have an appointment at the British Embassy at 8:45am and thought you walked out with the affidavit signed and stamped. But it seems they are not that efficient. What is the earliest I could expect to get the signed affidavit as later that afternoon I have a flight at 2pm from Suvarnabhumi airport so would need the signed affidavit for 12pm. Does the embassy provide the service of posting the signed affidavit for a fee or can they fast track it and ensure I get the signed affidavit before 12pm the same day. Or alternatively is there a service provided by reputable companies to collect the affidavit then get it translated and approved by the FCO and then post it to me. Your experiences and thoughts are greatly appreciated

My last option is to cancel my flight with ThaiSmile stay another night in Bangkok and book a flight with ThaiSmile the next afternoon after I get the signed affidavit the next morning as consular collections are 11am - 12pm on the Friday

    Consular Section

Consular public counter opening hours: (Local time)

Monday to Friday, 8am to 11am

    Consular collections only

Monday to Thursday, 2pm to 3pm

    Friday, 11am to 12pm

  4. Richard

Thanks for the reply and apologies for my late reply.

It seems I was all set with my documents, as you explained, and it's the email from the consulate that threw me.

I've made another appointment for late Feb and all being well everything should go smoothly... we will see

Thanks again for clearing this up

Can you please update us here what is required when getting married in Bangkok and you are previously divorced and do you need your divorce paper and have its authenticity verified by the FCO

  5. Doesn't this belong in the Farang Pub Creative Imagination Forum?

Jumping up, falling back, running off, shouting, startled, driving off. Sounds like someone's been watching too many action hero cartoons, envisioning himself as the hero who strikes fear wherever he goes.

"I told him that I was filming him taking a photo of my Passport and that I would be taking the film to my Embassy.

He jumped up , fell backwards and quickly ran off, shouting threats about the consequences of what will happen the next time he sees me in town .

A few months later , I went to the immigration office to get a visa extension , as I walked into the office , the same immigration guy was sat at his desk .

He recognised me and looked startled and concerned .

He wouldnt look at me, he picked the papers up from his desk, walked out the office , into his car and drove off ."

I am in Chiang mai, if you would like to come and watch the video ?

Come and see for yourself .

    Do you want too ?

You should post the video on YouTube...... But the danger is then the local immigration office would then possibly make life hell for you.... Unless you could edit the video and block out their faces...... People need to be warned of the scum who pull these scams
  6. It was good of the police to broadcast what day and time they would be visiting the zoo, but it seems like the Orangutan had already made plans. It would be good if the authorities would also give expats notice of when they would be visiting you at home to see if you comply with immigration. I am normally out most of the time so they would have little chance of finding me at home.... I am fortunate that I do t need to work and spend my time traveling or doing sports.

  7. I need a low price but clean and secure hotel just for myself that is close to the British Embassy, as I have a 9am appointment the next morning and know morning traffic can be hell. Afterwards I will take the Skytrain to Suvarnabhumi Airportf as I have a flight mid afternoon. So I need a budget no thrills hotel but one that does good evening meals. I don't want to be paying more than 1500 thb for bed and breakfast so any ideas would be appreciated.

  8. I came to Thailand with a great interest in Buhhism but my interest soon wavered when I saw how everyday Buddhism in the street seemed to be linked to material wealth. With monks hanging around outside Big C to collec money.... To everyday people going to the temple in the hope of getting luck to get more money from the lottery etc..... So I am heartened to hear your perspective

  9. Most young men in Thailand spend a few weeks or even months at a temple becoming a Buddhist monk and studying. Where they learn the key principles of Buddhism.

Buddhas path focuses on the single-minded pursuit of an individuals spiritual goals, not on the establishment of new conceptions of the Deity. The emphasis of the religion he founded is on meditation and the observance of important moral precepts, seen as expressions of ones own actual nature rather than as standards derived from external divine authority.

Both lay and monastic Buddhists commit to the following precepts:

    Not to kill.

    Not to steal.

Not to act in an unchaste manner.

    Not to speak falsely.

    Not to take intoxicants.

    In addition, monks vow:

Not to eat at times not appointed.

Not to view entertainments deemed as secular.

Not to wear perfumes or bodily ornaments.

Not to sleep in beds that are too high or too wide.

    Not to accept money.

Many other vows may also accompany the pursuit of a monastic lifestyle.

But why when you read here at TV that Thai men suffer with so much anger, have violent tendencies, suffer from immense jealousy, drink too much alcohol and sadly the country has one of the highest death rate from shootings.

I have travelled to many countries and spent time there not just as a tourist so I got a real taste of the countries I stayed in. But Thailand I find a little unnerving at times and I am constantly on my guard more so than most countries I have been in.

  10. Why don you and your father in law borrow some big dogs for a couple of weeks they will act as a good deterrent to most people who should not be on your properties..... I hope this situation gets resolved very soon. Why can't the police give the guy a warning if he does anything he will be back inside fir a much longer term.
