  1. LOL. just read on Australias Bangkok Embassy page that they only accept Australia Visa applications from Bangkok from Thai Nationals/residents only

"The Visas and Immigration section of the Australian Embassy in Thailand processes visa applications for people who resident in Thailand. Everyone except for Australian citizens will need to obtain a visa prior to travelling to Australia."

    http://thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Visas_and_Migration.html

You have misread/misinterpreted whatever that says.

As a UK citizen/passport holder I can obtain an E visa very easily and have visited my son in Perth on many occasions.

  2. So, for the 6-9 month METV from Canberra, we will need :

    Australian Visa

    Bangkok- Canberra return flight

    Another flight into Thailand

    Another flight out of Thailand

    5000 Baht for Visa

    2-3 Visa runs from Thailand

That is one big ask for a visa

    - You dont have to fly all the way to Canberra, Perth is cheaper and closer and has a Thai embassy

    - Check OZ visa requirements for me, its free

    - the rest is standard for all METV

No Thai Embassy in Perth !

  3. Anybody saying "Go home for METV" raises suspicion for me

I can name half a dozen of European consulates equally if not more demanding than some in SEA available for non-residents.

That's what seem to be the latest MFA message is, but sorry I don't see the point of flying to all the way to Europe to be asked more documents than in the region.

Kitsune, they are being serious this time around. Nothing suspicious to me at all. I saw a few things at the Embassy that made me feel that they have changed. I watched a few officials deal with some people that were out of line this time around. Just to say, I will follow things to the letter of the law here as I am too close to retirement age and do not want to stuff things up in the future.

Looking at the backpackers streaming over the borders today and yesterday, tourism certainly is not slowing down.

You are not answering the point I was making.

My country, like many, has more requirements than locals consulates, please tell me why I should "GO HOME"?

Because what you Want is no longer available within the Region ?

  4. Moved to here.

The fact that getting a new passport is a way to get around having back to back tourist visas has been discussed before.

Getting a new passport will not help if you have several visa exempt entries or other problems with entering the country though. They will link your old and new passports when you enter the country.

What if the new passport is obtained outside of Thailand? i.e. you have your old passport, then you exit thailand, then obtain a new passport, then re-enter thailand on new passport.

Try reading what UJ wrote again!

"Getting a new passport will not help if you have several visa exempt entries or other problems with entering the country though. They will link your old and new passports when you enter the country."

  5. I arrived on a 60 day tourist visa then got a 30 day extension but was told I could not extend it again at the immigration office and that if I wanted to extend my stay I would have to leave the country and re-enter in a 30 day tourist visa

There are no 30 day tourist visas

If you exit and re enter the country without a Visa you (if you qualify) will be given a 30 day "visa exempt" entry at an airport or 15/30 days at a land border depending on nationality.

  6. No need for the letter to be translated if it is to be be used in support of an application for an "extension of stay" (which is not a "visa")

how right you are oh wise smart@.. Guru! of course it is not a "visa" and has nothing to do with "retirement" that's why this stamp is on a page in my passport which says "Visas" stamped twice "RETIREMENT".

    coffee1.gif

    attachicon.gifRetirement.JPG

What a pity that some cannot read!

The stamp says "Extension of stay permitted up to"

The "Retirement" stamp indicates WHY you were allowed an extension.

    Get it smart@. ?

  7. Not talking about illegal activity, if certain conditions are met in some countries you would apparently be issued with a 3 year multiple entry Non B for short visits with employment prohibited.

I don't know exactly who or if anybody gets them, but just today i was browsing a certain Thai Embassy/consulate's website and they have this information published.

    All the details here !

    http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/4908/15386-Three-year-Non-Immigrant-Visa-%22B%22-(for-B.html

  8. There are many visa options. ........

    1. Tourist visas , single or multiple entry

    2. Non Immigrant "O" visa in many categories

    3. Non immigrant "B" visas for those intending to work or undertake business.

    4. Ed visas for those who intend to study.

5 O/A long stay visas for those aged 50+

6 The Thai Elite visa which is valid for 5+ years .

There is no shortage of choice .....................

Yeah well if tourist would not work anymore, I'd start "working" at my own company. Would just need to decide if I'd be the director or...i dunno...the tea boy. Although it has to be a job Thais can't do apparently.

    Can Thai people serve tea?

You could indeed start your own Company.

Do not forget there are minimal Capitalisation requirements, the need for a Thai partner(s) and the company would have to employ four Thai people.

Doubt a work permit would be issued to a Farang tea boy !

  9. This week i flew from the UK to Thailand.

I was issued a triple entry tourist visa in the UK.

At check-in, the lady from British Airways said I could not fly to Thailand without a return ticket.

I told her she was talking nonsense. She phoned her head office and they confirmed requirement of a return ticket..

I was forced to buy a single ticket from BKK to the UK to allow entry onto the plane.

The BA lady told me I could get a full refund of this ticket.........I hope so - it was 2231.27 GBP.

    2231.27 GBP. ???

    Really ?

A single one way ticket ?

    First class ?

Try Skyscanner when you next need a ticket !

  10. Can't argue with what you say, but be ready to be flamed!

Being flamed on the Thai Visa forum is the least of my concerns right now if I'm being honest with you, I'm more concerned about next year's visa options smile.png

  11. Unfortunately IKV, as good as the Hull consulate is, and as "user-friendly" as they once were (!) an awful lot of what's on their websites is simply "copied & pasted" from wherever London gets theirs.

It's bad enough for us who have some experience but pity the poor newbies!

Might I respectfully suggest that IF I'm correct, you, as the OP, ask the Mods to either remove or lock this thread? Otherwise, its very presence will cause FUD - you know how it goes. whistling.gif

Of course if I'm wrong, I apologise sincerely wai2.gif

Look, none of us is wrong, we are simply commenting an information on an official Thai consulate website, so if anything is wrong, that info is.

It shouldn't be. It's unacceptable. I am genuinely tired of hearing "oh well this is Thailand you know how things go here" excuse. Actually this is on an UK website. People make decisions based on these pieces of information.

It's inconsistency that bothers me. If i saw consistency yes I'd exploit the loopholes. So what? Not breaking the law.

In regards to xenofobia if it continues like that then yes I may be considering other places. I will make a decision when I get to that stage. I'm not there yet but i am starting to get fed up, and I'm sure I am not the only one.

What is this "xenofobia" ? (a word that is absent from my dictionary)

    Explain please.

  12. Not as far as I can see. Others may disagree but I believe this is all of us (and I include myself!) looking for problems, what with all the other recent changes.

I'm hoping someone like UbonJoe contributes, but I can guarantee that the Hull document i attached above has been lurking on my computer since 2011. Even its "last modified" date is only June 2011!

I believe what you are saying, I was not aware that the Hull consulate has faulted with their info before, that was generally reserved for Gvt websites within Thailand.

Well yeah, when you get 1 month ED visa extensions, METV advertised as "encouraging tourism at 5k baht with proof of employment in your own country", when you get the latest "Amazing Thailand" commercial targeted at so called "rich Hong Kong-ers" that would rather travel to New York, when you see the attitude towards foreigners of the officials becoming more and more xenofobic, when you get asked for legal bribes (500k Thai Elite)...to live like a Thai citizen according to their website....but still report to Immigration (<deleted>? I thought Thai people don't report to Immmigration), then yeah nothing amazes you anymore.

Apart from amazing Thailand. Truly amazing smile.png

If all you say is true why would you want to come (return?) to Thailand ?

Why expose yourself to alleged "xenophobic" officials when you have the option of going somewhere more suited to your needs ?

Are you aware that it will be very difficult now to live in Thailand using back to back tourist visas and visa exempt entries. I also believe the Ed visa is no longer an option for those who fail to attend classes.

  13. I apologise in advance for asking a question if it has been answered already somewhere else in this thread. Could someone please confirm what my position is with regard to me living in a house which is rented by my girlfriend/partner. Who is responsible for notifying whom (police and/or immigration) as to my current occupation of the property and any future departures and returns when I travel elsewhere within and outside Thailand?

The G/F is , as possessor of the property, responsible .

  14. Last week I attended Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office to renew my Non Imm "O" based on Thai Wife. This is the 4th time I have renewed my visa. Prior to attending I downloaded a copy of the documents required from the Immigration website as I could not determine if a stat declaration was required from the Australian Embassy as in the past. I decided to not to lodge this document as it did not appear on the list. On arrival at IO I went to my bank and received a letter and update . I was not asked for a stat declaration but for the first time my wife was required to sign a declaration that I had been living at the address provided. Got my temporary stamp in the passport and will attend again in 5 weeks to have the passport updated.

I have been reading comments on these forums for some time and cannot understand why there are so many Visa enquiries. I have handled all my Visa renewals and have been able to find the relevant information on the Immigration website

Can you scan and post all these "visas" you say you have been renewing ?

Perhaps you really mean to say that you do not have a "visa" and that you, in fact , have been renewing an "extension of stay" (which is not a visa)

Perhaps there are so many "visa" enquirers because people cannot be bothered to open their passports and read exactly what is stamped inside.

  15. Going to Vientaine to obtain a new single entry Tr,do i need to show flight tickets out of thailand? Or just apllication, photo and 1000 thb?

When I went with a visa agency to get a double entry a few months ago all i needed was the cash and my passport. I'm not sure if doing it on your own is different.

Also required were copies of your passport and Laos visa, photographs and a completed application form !

Cash and a passport will not by themselves secure a visa ...................................

  16. Do I understand this correctly. Any time i leave the house and stay the night somewhere else I need to fill out forms. If I go to Bangkok to the embassy i must let immigration know.I am away from my home. Sounds a bit harsh to me.If I go Kah Kha camping how do I do that one, willnot know even what camp ground. They want to know where we are every night? seems like a lot of paper work for them and us.

Many here are overstating the requirements and constructing Mountains out of molehills!
