  1. Just wondering how this would affect somone flying from the UK who has already booked a return ticket for 62 days and was planning to get a triple entry visa.

Will you be able to enter Thailand on a visa on arrival and then just do a couple of border runs or is it possible to get an immigration extension?

Guess one of the problems is 62 days is 2 days over the 30 day VOA and 102 x 15 day border extensions. Sorry to be specific but this is a real situation as my nephew has booked Dec 31 returning March 1st. What are his options? He is planning to travel outside of Thailand but nothing booked as yet before returning to BKK and flying home, His problem around new rules is that he is very recently self employed and dont think he had proof of £5k for 6 months of bank statements. Obviously I could transfer some money into his account but I suspect this wouldnt meet with the approval of the authoritites!

Happy to start a separate thread if this is diverging too much

    Thanks

Those from the UK with British passports are not eligible for a VOA !

    And ! VOA's only provide a 15 day entry .................

There are no 15 day "border extensions" for people from the UK or anywhere else.

If you have a return ticket dated 62 days from the day of arrival then

    1. Buy a single entry tourist visa from the Thai Embassy or one of the consulates which will provide a 60 day entry.

    2. Apply for a 7 day extension at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 Bht

3 . Invest in a good tourist guide book such as the Lonely Planet!

  2. Sorry, you are right! My next report is on November 16th and my extension ends July 2016. My company has stated they cancelled my work permit - does this mean they probably informed immigration as well?

You employer would not of canceled your extension. I am not sure if immigration would even cancel if they did inform them.

Schools. companies and etc are limited on the number of work permit they can support so they are only interested in canceling it not the extension.

I have cancelled my work permit a month ago and fly out December 5 for a long holiday in new zealand. I have to do 90 day reporting December 2. I have a non imm B visa stamped in my passport that is dated to expire in march. my accountant said my non im B visa is not effected by the cancelling of my work permit. she has never been wrong about work permit/visa things before. I guess we will see when I go to do my 90day report early December. I have seem so many conflicting posts and replies to this topic.

If you make 90 day reports to immigration you do not have a valid "B" visa .

Ask your accountant to explain the difference between a valid visa and an "extension of stay".

  3. Sorry OP but were you not on here at the time of your WP cancelation asking for advice ? Ubonjoe wasn't around and people was giving you the incorrect advice and I told you to pm Joe. Maybe I am confusing you with someone else, in which case sorry.

    What "incorrect" advice was given?

You will have noted UJ has commented within the tread.

  4. Not everyone can attend University, because of age and other factors.

I assume your 'because of age' comment refers to children still in primary or secondary school. Because the last time that I looked, there was no upper age limit for attending university.

I studied for an MA at Chula when I was about 50 years old...

As stated age is no barrier to undertaking university studies.

However, a lack of functioning neurons would defiantly be a "factor" associated with non admission.

  5. I've heard that as well. Chrome also stopped supporting a certain protocol awhile ago that makes things more difficult (NAPI or something like that ?). We couldn't log into secure servers using Chrome so would have to fire up IE (or FireFox) so we could use WebAccess and similar functions.

Not sure if that is why the Immigration site is so difficult though.

No luck in Firefox, Chrome or the new Edge (IE for W10) browser. Tab always freezes. Also, gives security certificate error upon page load.

I can assure you that the Chrome browser when used in conjunction with IE Tab (a free download) does allow access to the 90 day on line reporting ( https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do)

The "security certificate error" is caused by a self certification and can be safely ignored.

I have now successfully completed 3 online 90 day reports.

  6. Do you actually have a Non "B" visa?

Because you talk about " a next notification date for my 1 year NonB" I suspect you have an "extension of stay based on work" (which is not a "visa!) and the "B" visa you had has long ago expired.

The "extension of stay " ceased to be valid on the day you stopped working. There are no +7 days unless a 7day extension is applied and paid for.

If you are lucky and you do not have a re-entry permit in the passport the overstay may not be noticed.

There is nothing which will prevent your returning and being given a 30 day visa exempt entry

Just out of interest mate, why would the OP having a re entry permit give him more chance of a problem?

If a passport contains an extension of stay without a re-entry permit, leaving effectively cancels the extension.

A re-entry permit keeps the extension alive and in the case of the OP could give rise to awkward questions being asked by an Immigration officer on return to the country.

  7. You have have 2 options.. First you can apply for a single 90 day visa but will require bank statements with proof of income above a certain level.

Or second (I do this) get a 60 day visa and apply for 30 day extension at an immigration office if you do not meet the income requirement. I will be applying for my 60 day visa in the next 2 weeks.

    A single 90 day visa ?

Based on what and what is the "income level" ?

  8. 2 and 3 Entry visas have been removed completely worldwide according to the TAT announcement two weeks ago at the Travel mart in London. Only Single and Multiply Entries are available. A single entry tourist visa can be applied at any Thai embassy or consulate worldwide but for the METV only at the home country.

    Dont tell us

Tell Hanoi to update their docs.

I thought you emailed Hanoi already.

Hope the email was written in Thai and Vietnamese smile.png

  9. Tourism or Tourist is travel for pleasure or someone who travels for pleasure.

There is no time limit that defines this.

Thailand you could travel around and still not see it all in 2 years

O but then you become a long stayer.

how silly.METV great idea for Travelers requirements makes them useless.

Which countries offer time unlimited "stay as long as you like" tourist visas ?

Many countries would have removed the types that are here, complaining, long ago.

  10. "With the change happening with regards Tourist visas are they still giving visas on arrival at the airport if you

come for a short holiday ."
1 Visas on arrival are only available to citizens of certain countries , cost 1000 Bht and allow a 15 day stay
    2. Visa - exempt entries are available to those who qualify, and provide a 30 day stay issued at an airport.

  12. If needed more proof that the all thing is a scam:They said in the press release, the new METV was to "promote tourism from ASEAN", but it's not much easier for a Chinese to get one.

    http://www.thaishanghai.com/upload/downloads/PDF%20file/2015.11.12%20Multiple%20Entry.pdf

    Multiple Entry Documents Required

    1. Passport or travel documents with validity of not less than 6 months and its copy

    2. Two visa application forms completely filled out

    3. Two recent photographs of the applicant (2 inches)

    4. Valid permanent residence / residence permit of the People’s Republic of China

    5. Current bank statement with minimum balance of 50,000 RMB (at least from the last 6 months)

    6. Guarantee Letter (in English or Thai) from the applicant’s local guarantor, indicating the applicant’s name, purpose and period of the stay in Thailand and guaranteeing that the applicant will come back to China as scheduled.

6.1 For Company Employee: a guarantee letter from the applicant’s employer (the company the applicant works for)

6.2 For Self-Employed Applicant: a guarantee letter issued by the Sub-District Office (街道办事处) or the local police station.

6.3 For Student: a guarantee letter issued by the school or academic institution is required

6.4 For the Unemployed and the Retire: a guarantee letter issued by the Sub-District Office (街道办事处) or the local police station

    7. Evidence of air ticket reservation to Thailand (first entry) 8. Evidence of accommodation reservation in Thailand (first entry)

First off, the requirements aren't all that difficult and are in line with requirements for a Schengen visa.

Now I doubt this visa will bring in loads of new tourists into the country and I doubt the powers that be actually believe that.

Supporting could also mean making it easier for certain types of tourist to consider Thailand as their travel hub. And this visa certainly does. As many entries as you can make during the validity of the visa. A flexibility that the previous double and triple entries didn't offer.

Let's be honest here, the number of Tourists that previous needed double and tripe TV's was already very tiny. And for most of them, this visa offers more flexibility against a slightly higher price. And depending on their travel itinerary, this visa could actually work out cheaper as a triple (no re-entry permits needed, and a border run instead of an extension if those work out cheaper).

In any case the vast majority of Tourists in Thailand are already well served with visa on arrival, visa exempt, ability to extend and SETV.

Err, a young doctor living in any European country earning, say, £50,000 per annum would probably spend most of that in maintaining his chosen lifestyle commensurate with that income and may well be able save some money but not a lot as he progresses. Given the requirements he would have to demonstrate that he has at least a surplus of £5,000 held for a minimum of six months then even he would have trouble in qualifying. It is quite literally insane that the Thai have introduced this daft category particularly when one considers their country is a third world destination in a third world region where the PPP capita income is about $7,000. Stupid, incoherent and pointless but I suppose that sums up the Thai bureaucracy in developing a visa most cannot obtain.

The fact they simply haven't even considered those with funds but who are not employed or in full time education is sufficient evidence of their lack of any real forethought.

Incidentally, I know of no requirement that in order to qualify for a Schengen visa one must be in full time employment or education. Similarly, I am not aware of any minimum financial requirement to visit the area.

Err.................Young Doctors work and study !

They are not interested in obtaining METV's.................

None I know would be able to take more the a couple of weeks holiday at a time.

Their post graduate education and the need to maintain clinical skills are paramount.

  13. Can the one-year extension be extended for a second year, or does one have to start the whole process all over again?

And one more question: who can be a "dependent"? Can an elderly, wheelchair-bound parent qualify as a dependent? Or does one have to transfer 800.000 Baht into Thailand for the parent as well?...

1.Extensions of stay can be renewed if the conditions are met.

    2. Possibly but you will need to consider the wisdom of moving such a Person to Thailand and ensure that they had adequate medical insurance ..........heath care is not cheap.
