  1. I'll throw my hat into this ring.  Patong has its' pluses and minuses.  For me, it is a bit too frenetic when the tourists are there.  I opted to go one town North to Kamala.  Smaller town with a good beach and pretty friendly people.  About a 10 - 15 minute scooter drive (without tourists less) to Jungceylon Mall.

If you're going to move to an island, move somewhere with a beach.  Beaches on the west side of the island tend to be superior to the East side.  Pick up a place for a month and drive  around and see what tickles your fancy.

So when are we going to get the Pfizer and Moderna  vaccine? or even the Johnson&Johnson one sounds good. They really need to focus on what they are there for and give the Thai people and us a good vaccine.

I agree about J & J.  They are running another phase  III trial with the vaccine as a two dose system that seems to be really interesting.  It seems to reach and maintain maximum antibody response about  eight weeks after the first jab.  I did note that nobody that received the J & J shot had to go to the hospital after the 28 day mark.  The testing was/is done in Britain, South Africa, Brazil and the USA.  That's taking it out for one hell of a test drive.

  3. Try this:  https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/91157

Now I don't know who medpage is but the reporting seems balanced.

It seems there are several factors dictating how we will react to the first and second doses of the MRNA vaccines.

On a personal note I'll take the potential of a 24 to 48 hour flu response to the vaccine because I'm in the demographic ... that dies from the covid - 19.

  4. T'ain't just the English.

How about "Baksheesh" from the Persians or "La Mordida" from the Spanish.  Every culture has some form of "grease" to make the wheels of the local civilization turn.

I find that it's usually not too expensive and it is as amusing as a Vegas floor show

  5. I can't help but feel that we all (me included) have rushed past an important point in our hurry to claim government overreach and corruption.

WHAT DO THE NON PAYMENTS COST THE THAI MEDICAL SYSTEM AND WHO IS NOT PAYING?

We all seem to be blaming non insured tourists.  Should we be?  We haven't had any tourism since march of 2020.  That means that any current significant losses are caused by illegal workers from Myanmar and Cambodia etc. etc. in the camps.  They have already paid to corrupt officials to turn a blind eye to their presence.

BTW  The second wave you are going through is caused by these same workers not being tested because they don't officially exist.  Don't blame the workers - they are victims here also.

HOW MUCH ARE THE HOSPITALS OUT OF POCKET RIGHT NOW.??  LET THE CORRUPT ONES PAY IT OUT OF THEIR TEA MONEY??  MAY WE HAVE AN INDEPENDENT AUDIT OF THE HOSPITALS  BOOKS??

    Just a thought

This and Moderna are the only vaccines i would be interested in having and possibly AstraZeneca as a last resort

I agree but I  do add the Johnson and Johnson to the pool of Pfizer and Moderna.  J&J is a single dose vaccine that can be kept in normal refrigeration.  It also seems to induce excellent antibody response in 98% of the recipients.

Now someone may have been blowing smoke up my kilt so I'll keep a jaundiced  eye on this one..  I expect a request for certification in North America around the first half of February. and we will see what the stage three trials have wrought.

Fa lala la lala, and merry Xmas to all.

How in God's green earth if it kills the Covid 19 virus can the virus still infect cells?  Am I missing something here....

Obviously this has to be the disease that starts the Zombie apocalypse.  The origins of the  apocalypse were never explained well in any of the movies.

    Time for another little drinkie

The Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine has to be non-profit because they used public money.

Although it may not be as effective as some of the other vaccines that have hit the headlines it is easier to store and cheaper to produce so bodes well for the poorer countries.

As our bodies adapt to this new threat it will become like the winter flu is.

In 1918 the Spanish flu killed 500 million people, 1/3 of the world's population and now it is just a flu that we get an annual injection for.

Good thought but that is not quite accurate.  If you read further in that article you will find that about 500 million people became infected with the flu.  About 10% or 50 million people died.  Either number is mindnumingly depressing.

I agree with you completely that the OAZ vaccine has the potential to be the worlds vaccine because of ease of distribution and cost.

I wish them success, but with busses departing Phuket airport at 10am, noon, 3pm and 5:30pm I can't see how they plan to attract enough business to keep from losing money.

With the 20% discount offered by shared van services, the van cost will be less, you generally won't have to wait as long to depart, and the van would deliver you to your hotel rather than a bus stop.

Did they change the schedule???  The schedule above just put out by Olmate (which is the one i have on my phone) shows a bus leaving the airport hourly on the hour.

The bus was fairly empty when I started using it. By the time it shut down it was pretty even between Thai and tourist.  I just used my scooter  for local stuff and driving in to Phuket town.
