  1. The sharp and sustained fall in oil prices is making someone very desperate to be back to the feeding trough...

So are you privy to inside information regarding Thaksin's financial dispositions or are you as usual full of......?

Oh dear, how swift you are to defend Thaksin by attacking someone who dare comment against him.

And you don't even support him..................................

Thaksin told Forbes the Shin family fortune increased by a whopping 450% during the years of the PTP government. Wonder how much they've increased since?

Dare comment against him? I have commented against him numerous times and I will do so in the future, especially if he comes back as (de facto) leader.

What I have an issue with are posters who are spectacularly unable to say anything wrong about the junta because they actually believe the junta's claim that Thaksin is the root of all evil. Un effin' believable!

"And you don't even support him.................................."

Support? I detest the guy but that doesn't make the junta's actions right. We both know that them taking power has nothing to do with ridding the country of corruption and nepotism and everything to do with access to the trough, as well as other matters we cannot discuss.

"Thaksin told Forbes the Shin family fortune increased by a whopping 450% during the years of the PTP government."

Has someone finally found a link to that interview yet? I wouldn't be surprised if he said it but if there is no link then it's not something you can quote.

Yep it is the sheer hypocrisy I cannot stand. Thaksin is everything his detractors say he is. But to declare the dems or even the unquestionable military as some sort of corruption busting saviors is sheer foolishness and history has proven that these people are just as bent as Thaksin time and time again.

Baerboxer you point out Thaksin's wealth. Care to comment on the thousands of generals in the Thai army with fortunes far, far beyond what their salaries can explain?

  2. At least if they are dressed in white they will refrain from throwing sh*t which is a standard procedure from them when they don't get what they want.

Lets hope they do not start any violence. Oh, thats right they can't because the Junta are still ensuring peace and order from this violent mob.

The years 74, 76 and 92 there was violence, slaughter of innocents by guys whose job it is to protect Thai citizens. Not murder them. Funnily enough there was a similar kind of government in control or pulling strings in the background during those troubled times.

Thai juntas have not learned there lesson and sooner rather than later it is going to come to a breaking point again. I suspect we won't see you posting when that time comes.

Indeed. Remember the people in charge now were central to events in 2010.

It's alright when the "good people" murder though. We only condemn when the other side kill whistling.gif

  4. Amen to that Johhny.

I'll pop on down to the citizenship kiosk and grab me one, Do you want me to grab one for you whilst Iam there ?

If you met the criteria you could but I bet you don't but don't assume that nobody does. You have to invest 10 million, be an executive officer and owner of the business, have a degree, married to a Thai, earn at least 50,000 and then the fee is 200,000, and then there is also a quota of 100 people per nationality per year, there are never enough applicants from any Western countries who meet the criteria and who want it so that is not an issue for most of us. And anyway, do you want to give up your current citizenship? There are no duel citizenship's for Thailand. You might note that no countries hand out citizenship to any old person who wants it, they have to want them.

You also have to sing the national anthem word for word, hand on heart in a police station cheesy.gif

I think the issue here is "Family day". If we had a family day in The UK I would hope that even Non UK nationals with UK families would be included in the rule. Hell, if it is a NATIONAL holiday everyone in the nation, native or not, should be included.

But hey I am just a dreamer...

It's not a rule I would have introduced, but if you are looking for another laugh, check out the UK Englishness test, for some reason they think that prospective applicants of UK citizenship should know what the ratio is of English to Scottish people, what year all people got the vote, even what you should do should you accidentally spill someones drink in the pub! Unfortunately this sort of craziness is the world over, nothing Thai about it. And learning the national anthem is actually OK with me, it demonstrates two things, that the applicant is making an effort to learn the language and that they are patriotic to their new country, I would have thought that was obvious.

And what is so wrong about a national holiday for nationals anyway? You might note that it nothing to do with "natives" at all, there will be plenty of native Thai's who have chosen to accept a different citizenship and exempted themselves from this very very small benefit.

You mean Thais that have gone to say the UK and picked up British citizenship (which despite some silly rules to acquire, pales in significance to the hoops of fire you need to jump through here) came back to visit and went to a national park that they would then have to pay? I very much doubt that, the park staff would see that they are ethnically Thai and let them in anyway, but the foreigner living here for decades with a Thai family still has to pay? And yes I know it is a small amount but it is the principal of the thing.

It should be for the nation to enjoy and that includes people living in it even if they aren't ethnically from that nation.

  5. And foreigners with Thai families?

Why am I even bother to ask.

If foreigners with Thai families cant be arsed to get citizenship then of course they should have to pay. Most can't even be bothered to attempt to integrate judging on the Thai language level of many I've met. If you want to live as an outcast take the consequences.

    Amen to that Johhny.

  6. I have always been looking for Made in NW Europe, USA and Thailand when I buy stuff. But I gave up the Made in Thailand quite some time ago.

I sent the following to Thai Airways on the 31st of March and still no answer

    Dear Thai Airways

I’m a business class passenger and Thai gold card member. Can you please answer me why I should continue to use your service? I’m a foreigner and I have to pay much more than Thai people when I visit your national parks, museums etc. It is what I call a scam from you!

So I really would appreciate a few reasons for me to continue using Thai Airways. And especially after the news about “Soldiers given police powers of arrest, search and seizure” and “Govt critics risk 1 month 're-education' Army boss says recent detentions a 'warm up'” kind of alarming news since a long time back.

And how do I know that you are not pricing me as a foreigner when I buy a ticket with Thai Airways? I have been in the business class department several times when all of the sudden there are several “new” passengers just showing up with Economy tickets

I use other airlines from now on even though it means some inconvenient stop overs. I will gladly come back when you have put my worries straight again

You have good points here but some of these things like prices of national parks....Thai airways don't control those things...

  7. Don't those Thais traveling out of the country for their vacation threaten national security?

I wouldn't be surprise that Prayut doesn't take some arbitrary and frivilous action to stem further Thai foreign tourism. Perhaps an exit and readmission fee for Thais leaving the country for a vacation. That way the Thai vacationer will contribute to Thailand's economy whether they stay in Thailand or leave the country. wai2.gif

He shouldn't worry. A great deal of the Thais I have met abroad are too far indoctrinated to come back with any radical new ideas.

    They get em young here.

  8. Wait, Thais know there are more countries? ohmy.png

I'd say good news, let's hope they happen pick up a few good/better things from other cultures and apply them here, like driving.

Even for me (from West-Europe) going to Japan was a real eye-opener. They have everything perfect there, into the extreme.

There is no trafficjam in Tokyo, and the cars/trucks who are there are very silent and clean, even huge trailers.

Everything is clean, safe, organised and high quality. Totally the opposit of Thailand and it only costs a little bit more. Still cheaper then W-europe.

Yes Tokyo blew my mind. I thought with it being the biggest city in the world that the traffic would be horrendous. It is practically non existent in big city terms. Their public transport infrastructure is probably the best in the world.

I hope to be living there by the end of the decade smile.png

  9. "There will be no coup".

Yep, these guys are reliable when it comes to the truth.

What's the bet the constitution has a 99.7% approval vote?

    Bingo!

If the vote is no the usual suspects will complain by stating "How will the Junta lovers spin this one".

If the vote is yes the usual suspects will complain by stating "rigged result"

Love your work. Thanks my friend. That comment made my day.

Points and rebuttals where made to you on the other thread about this Jamie and you didn't bother to reply to any of them.

Will you pull the same trick here?

  10. Your inherent ignorance and snobbery surface again. My previous occupation, for which I have formal education qualifications in electrical engineering, was 10 years in chemical plant and 20 in state-owned coal-fired power stations, cut short by a disabling medical condition. My current casual occupation is taxi driver. Not only did I know the students, supervising and working closely with them for 6-8 weeks, I was one once. Of course, I was referring to engineering students, who have little time for volunteer work or political activism, they are too busy with the demands of a real education funded by employer who expects some return.

You can shove what you earn in your own posterior while you try to understand that sometimes the level of accuracy provided by a formula is simply not required, as in this case where a low level triggered a re-order. Calibration of dosing pumps is not done by dipping a drum - much more accurate supply side measuring cylinders are used. You could also realise that the professional albeit non-formally qualified people you work with may be just as, if not more, intelligent than yourself, but without the opportunity or motivation for a formal education. Has that ever occurred to you?

You attack the THAI students and I ask if you know anything about them, and you go off on a tangent about students you allegedly supervised. I note that you were not training them.

Electrical engineering as in someone who has a B. Eng. and is or was a member of a professional order? And you ended up driving a taxi? Ok. Apparently, unable to undertake engineering work, but capable of sitting for long periods in an automobile. Interesting disability. Oh wait, you don't mean a real engineer do you? It's like HVAC technicians who rebrand themselves as environmental condition engineers, or cleaners who are termed sanitation engineers. All are important as we can't live without waste disposal or the people who shovelled the coal etc.

The fact of the matter is that you rip into some decent young adults, people who care about their country, and you know nothing about them or their motivation. Here's a reality check for you: Know your place. Yes, that's right. Welcome to Thailand, and you are at the bottom of the hierarchy. Know why? Family, Education, Wealth and Social Position. If you want to attack people for not being good little Thai robots, then you should know your place and it is below these noble young lions who rank on the social hierarchy. As per you and your comrade in arms Smedly's views, your are instructed to be silent as you have no status from which to speak. Only those of us who occupy higher social status shall comment. That's your logic at work, so please follow it.

Oh wait , yes I do mean a real engineer, suffering from spinal osteoarthritis which makes it painful to stand and/or walk for more than a few minutes. And despite 30 years experience, there is little demand for crippled engineers who haven't worked in their field for over 10 years, who needs to maintain Oz residence, but wants to spend as much time as possible in Thailand with their family. But I do know that VARs are not something you stick flowers in.

I am quite happy being a social pariah in Thailand, its an oz thing, we have little time for those who put on airs and think they are better than others. And I am quite happy to "rip into" students whose knowledge consists of what they have read in books. Funny that the attitude you ascribe to me seems to fit you better, I am certainly NOT one of 'us who occupy higher social status'. Are you?

You know the bold bit makes you a massive hypocrite right?

  11. you don't have democracy without the proper structures in place to support it, Thai governments have in the past had many opportunities to improve things but have failed over and over because greed and self interest rules in Thailand

The USA had several bloody civil wars until a group of smart folks sat down with good intent and the Constitution was born, it set structures in place that allowed America to develop to what it is today

Thailand needs a group of smart folks with good intention to do the same and put an end to the constant power abuse and thieving by creating a structure (constitution) that makes it very difficult to do, stiff laws and penalties along with agencies that are given the clout to deal with it and finally a court system to convict and lock them up, is the current government capable of delivering that - well yes they are.................but is that their intention ? - remains to be seen

Umm it pretty clearly isn't there intent. The microphone and park scandals, army generals with stupidly high wealth not being investigated, the police not being reformed, army and police complicit in human trafficking, huge scams in places like Phuket going on.

Hell, you are one of the most vocal critics of the Koh Tao case. If you really did your research you'd know how far the mafia on that island's tentacles reach. That case is a microcosm of how NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

    Wake up.

  12. Students - people who still think they know everything. It is often a shock when they actually get a job, even in their chosen field, to find how little they know.

Students used to appear at our plant during uni holidays (commonly called xmas beetles). Their arrogance rarely lasted long. One attached a note to a 200 litre drum with the formula for drum surface area to calculate the contents with dipstick, to which someone added 'Or tap on the side.'

Trust you to have a condescending, snide opinion. Just like the Thai elite you so desperately wish you were part of.

your class hatred remarks about the Thai elite show the sort of low life you come from. Singapore has an elite government and it is very good. Likewise an elite government in Thailand would be far better than the PTP

    AAEAAQAAAAAAAAOaAAAAJDQzNDUyZmQ2LWEyYmEt

Yes I am proudly working class and loving pointing out the hypocrisy of the sneering, hypocritical and murdering elite (which try as you may, you will NEVER be a part of).

The corruption is just as bad if not worse now under your oh so heavenly traditional elite. One day they will be brought down. Not just here in Thailand but the world over.
