  1. Both stupid and careless. Lacking in the common sense that it was not worth the risk. Must have assumed they'd never get caught.
  2. Right. The property owners lease out the property, it is the lessee that is responsible for what goes on there. Unless it can be proven that the owners were complicit.
  3. I’m from the US. She’ll do some serious jail time for sure, vehicular homicide is no joke, fleeing the country made this very bad in the eyes of the law.
  4. Based on my brief wiki search it appears that Bangkok Hospital Group Co. Ltd. is a private for profit hospital and not government subsidized.
  5. Which Thailand are you living in? I have been to Phaya Thai 1 hospital many many times, from routine treatments to several emergencies, and that includes dental work. I have consistently been treated with sensitivity and compassion, and the professionals there are exemplary in their dedication. I did it all as an outpatient and including meds I have never paid much more than about $300 US. I have been equally satisfied with other hospitals including Bangkok Hospital, where I got my Covid booster. But go ahead and complain, it's probably all you know how to do, and clearly you're not happy unless you're complaining about something. One experience does not define an entire country. And I find your toilet story dubious. There are numerous people online who make up stories to embellish a point. I'm personally quite happy here after 10 years, and have never encountered nor directly heard of anything such as you describe. BTW, did your dead neighbor complain about being left on the floor? Did you even so much as help get him onto a bed?
  6. You need to get your facts straight before your bad advice causes serious problems for someone. As of right now you need an international or Thai drivers license, the police are staging checkpoints and handing out 1000 baht fines. Anyone with questions about this can simply go online to REPUTABLE sources and check the requirements, but CERTAINLY do NOT trust forums like this for obvious reasons. I have been stopped and fined twice during Covid. Drivers license is easy and cheap.
  7. People, if you buy insurance make sure you also have or know a lawyer you can bring into play for situations like this. It should be part of your plan and preparation. As soon as you bring an attorney in even without filing action you have raised the stakes and presented the insurer with the likelihood of paying huge damages and legal fees, and suddenly paying the actual claim is easier and cheaper. I have done this many times, enough times that I have often brought action on my own without an attorney and gotten results.
  8. Funny how she mentions buying insurance - but nothing about safety and being careful when driving. She doesn't sound like she's willing to own up and accept responsibility for this. Insurance would not erase the scars and disabilities incurred, but proper skills would have prevented the whole thing. The best insurance is safe driving practices and skills. A motorbike is not a kid's toy and can kill you if you don't take driving one seriously.
  9. Because the social issue of accidents caused by inexperienced and unlicensed drivers is a valid topic for discussion. Because it is fair based on statistics and even on the facts of the article to infer certain things about this one. I have ridden a motorbike in my home country and this one for many decades. First and foremost it is highly likely that she was impaired either by a lack of motorbike driving skills and/or drinking. I would personally bet money that not only does she not have insurance, she also doesn't have a motorbike license, because those two responsibilities go hand in hand. The problem of unlicensed and inexperienced motorbike renters is epidemic in Thailand, and this is quite often the result. So you may have a theoretical point as far as it goes, but the commenters also have a point based on the story and also the bigger picture into which it falls. Since this is not about a crime we don't have to treat her as "innocent until proven guilty", but whether or not it's likely she was to blame for all the reasons discussed. It appears more likely than not. And remember that these are just opinions.
  10. A shallow, insensitive comment devoid of all compassion in the face of this tragedy and all the suffering it brings to the cop's family and friends. Says all we need to know about you, Mr. Dj Silver. You're not welcome here, please leave.
  11. Not in a million years. Not unless it happened 5 times a day along with school shootings once a month
  12. Those are only the ones who got caught, therefore your comment is meaningless. So you think money laundering and embezzlement don't exist in your own wonderful country based on your narrow search? National Crime Agency? 99% of them never get caught.
  13. This will be added to the statements and any other evidence and testimony provided by the vendor. There is a bit of a difference on video between someone reacting with surprise (didn't happen) and peering into the contents, and methodically counting money as if it were expected.
  14. Just to be on the safe side I printed those instructions on photo card stock to fold and keep with me in my satchel at all times. It sounds like good advice which any good lawyer would give.
  15. If you're gonna come to Thailand with pockets full of money and a t-shirt that says "I'm a dumb naive tourist" on it the scammers will swarm like bees around you. But to them they're just making a living, and charging what the market will bear - capitalism. I mean 60,000 baht? That's almost my entire monthly income. They could have asked around and gotten good advice, why didn't they? I'm willing to bet they carried stupid amounts of cash on their person and in their hotel. This doesn't mean there isn't an issue, this IS an issue, but will anything be done about it? Maybe. There seems to be more cabbies using meters than there used to be. The Bolt app will keep the cabbies in line by competing, and that app is great, I use it all the time.
  16. When you have doubts you walk around and ask people. There is always an ex pat somewhere, or a Thai person, who will be glad to advise or help. But you should get your advice before you even set foot in a place. I've been here ten years and I'm still learning and noticing details that I wasn't aware of.
  17. It's people who come here without doing any research or learning about Thailand. I studied it in depth for quite a few years before I came here, and when I came here I had friends to advise me about stuff like this. I knew about the crooked cabs, I knew not to take cabs from the touts at bus stations, I knew about police bribes, tourist trap roadblocks, etc. All that info is out there, yet people think this is gonna be just like Disney World in Floridaq.
  18. “While e-cigarettesare illegal in Thailand extortion is not.” From the article. ?
  19. Punishing the whole class for the behavior of one or two is cruel and unfair, these kids will carry resentment toward authority and laws for their entire lives. Additionally, this is a tactic used by Hitler on POWs. The Thai teachers are right. The kids deserve better. You should resign.
  20. But road carnage, road rage, road murder only happen in Thailand and nowhere else, right? That's why you came here, because things are so perfect in your home country that you had to come here to find things to complain about.
  21. In some Asian countries it's the death penalty, Singapore had an execution last year, Vietnam also has th death penalty.
