Khao San Road in a Frenzy as Authorities Crack Down on Laughing Gas
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Whippets used for whipped cream require a permit to legally be sold. It is illegal for them to be sold and used as a recreational drug, however commonly they may be actually used. If someone buys legal food grade nitrous whippets and serves them for intoxicating purposes in a bar they are breaking the law. Here's what you didn't bother to read: "Nitrous oxide is a prohibited substance under the Narcotics Act, and those engaged in the production and distribution of such substances without proper authorization face imprisonment for up to five years and fines not exceeding 10,000 Baht.". It's primary use in other countries is as a dental anesthetic/sedative. It's not used for that anywhere in Thailand. So before you next embarrass yourself with baseless comments you might want to take a minute to look things up. -

It's relatively harmless in the form used in bars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide_(medication) -

Yes, it is milder than alcohol, as long as you don't breathe it in pure enough form to asphyxiate yourself. Besides the cartridges made for aerosol whipping cream, It's primarily used as a mild dental anesthetic with sedative properties, although not in Thailand. It's also used in hot rods as a power boosting agent, as well as a rocket fuel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide -

They probably are, since this operation is a joke and they will get off with small fines. -
German Tourist's Fatal Fall at Pattaya Hotel Shocks Visitors

It seems you may have flunked science. Cause of death means the specific medical cause of the death such as blunt trauma to the head or body, fractured skull, collapsed lungs, fractures, multiple contusions, internal bleeding, heart failure, external bleeding, etc. See if you can remember that next time you feel like denigrating and disrespecting the dead. Oh and like your mama said it's never too late to go back to school and take a science and physiology class. Unfortunately they don't teach respect, either you learned it by age 21 or you didn't. -
Russian Tourist Detained for Disruptive Behaviour in Phuket Hotel

I don't know where you're from, but in civilized countries disorderly conduct does not carry the death penalty. I suppose you're one of those perfect people who has never behaved badly while drunk, or not drunk. -
British Man Allegedly Assaults Thai Village Manager

So what. The US names nationalities when it's appropriate. It depends on which media, on what the police report, and there are hundreds of both mainstream media and on youtube. Did you happen to notice that there are a great many differences between Thai and western cultures outside of this event, or has that escaped you? I happen understand agree with the importance of distinguishing between crimes that Thai people commit and the ones committed by farang. On the other hand they blur out faces and often don't name full names. Readers can judge the stories on their merits. It's their country and their business how they conduct themselves. -

Not at all unusual for such things to be hidden in innocuous places. Same thing with phone scammers in India operating out of small office buildings. But you're the cybercrime expert, what do we know? -

While your comment may have merit outside of this topic, your lack of compassion for the woman in this story speaks loudly as to YOUR character. -
Police break up network aiding foreigners to stay in Thailand

It's a shame they can't simply be treated as refugees from an oppressive dictatorship. I'm sure they'd be willing to pay for that privilege, rather than pay crooked Thai people.- 137 replies

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From what I've read, US social security is not taxable. So I imagine I will file a tax return and provide Social Security documentation that my income matches the amount transferred here every month. That should require minimal math skills on the part of their tax dept. -

New Mobile Banking Rules Aim to Curb 'Horse' Accounts
Jonathan Swift replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I hear you. But this may have little or nothing with either prime minister themselves. These could be independent agencies. But I really don't know for sure, just a guess. But overall, this is another case of everything changes, and often not for the better. That's the way of the world, social entropy, moving toward chaos -

'E-cigarettes' may be classified as a drug
Jonathan Swift replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Does the fact that heroin is illegal stop people from using it? Nope. But is that a reason to actually tolerate and promote it? Absolutely not. There are a thousand different addictive poisons out there, if you can discourage even one it's worth it. These are kids, they deserve to be protected. E cigarettes are a scourge. Cigarettes are a scourge. Cigarette addicts are self centered pigs with no regard for people who don't want to breathe their toxic waste. We don't need to breed more of the same only with a different style of poison. -

By your logic, if guns are legal, then tanks and bombs (in the hands of citizens) should be. Right? Yes, I know guns are technically illegal in Thailand. All right, then if knives are legal then guns, tanks, and bombs should be, right? But you have to remember, the tobacco industry has immense unmeasurable wealth and is deeply entrenched. E cigarettes are relatively new and more easily controlled, and merchants are not as well organized with lobbyists and politicians. So if that particular scourge can be controlled, absolutely. We don't need kids getting addicted to anything, whether it's cigarettes or other nicotine products. Obviously you're a smoker and you sure wouldn't want anyone to take your filthy habit away from you. I know it's difficult, but see if you can wrap your mind around the foregoing. -
