  1. All agencies use crooked tactics which rely on bribes to get away with breaking the law. Often times foreigners are misled and taken advantage of, spending stupid amounts of money instead of learning the ropes.
  2. For chronic complainers maybe. None of this is going to bother me in the least. I had a lot of work and a lot of hoops to jump through when I got my retirement O visa. If this is too much work for retirees then I agree. Don't come here. See if retiring is better anywhere else.
  3. I'm not unhappy to see those shady "agents" go.
  4. The bad publicity has embarrassed the powers that be into holding a high level meeting about this, in the town of Pai with the police and locals. Things look like they are about to change. A bar just got raided and a whole band of musicians were caught working without a permit. This may not seem like much, but it shows a radical departure from the previous status quo of turning a blind eye to the behavior of foreigners. The local hippie colony is all shocked and outraged that their little hippie stoner paradise is now being stepped on with actual enforcement of laws. They've been flauting visa rules, flauting motorbike license laws and endangering people with their driving, publicly flauting work laws by actually advertising services on facebook, parasite begpackers and deadbeats contributing nothing to the local economy. I'm sure this was a deliberate signal as to what's coming. But of course I could be wrong, because, the more I learn the less I know. Thailand if nothing else is largely unpredictable. One thing for sure, the times they are a-changin, and the good old days are gone.
  5. These things are more complicated than most people are able to grasp. This kind of radical change acts like a fast moving blunt object, a swinging pendulum of force that goes one way when it's pushed in that direction, going past the intended target, knocking people over, uprooting and smashing things in the process. It happens everywhere, not just Thailand, it is the nature of change when it happens faster than people can keep up with. In this case, obviously the government had to do something to save and preserve the economy, I think we all understand that, and it is virtually impossible to foresee all of the repercussions. It's also impossible to keep government operating in a consistently effective and sensible manner
  6. Well, that's a viewpoint. A simpleton's viewpoint. So what's next, the "racism against farangs" worn out routine? There's a lot more to it than that, but that's why this is the grownups' page.
  7. Wait, didn't someone beat him in 2020? Trump didn't win on the merits, everyone knows he beat a feeble old man who was virtually incoherent in the debate, Kamala just came in too late to turn things around. The democratic party handed it to him. Doesn't matter, he's only got 4 years, then everything he does will be undone. I don't even care, you can say what you want, I'm neutral, I came to Thailand and I'm 8,000 miles away from that dumpster fire, and that's the way I like it. Luckily, I don't run into people like you anywhere. Wonder why?
  8. Please quote any phrase from the article that shows hate. After all, you're the expert, your people are full of it from the soles of your feet to the top of your hair.
  9. You're 10 years old? That explains a lot. The world may become easier to understand once you get your big boy pants
  10. Awwww, you're no fun, pointing out the truth and all. Wahhhh dogshit.m4v
  11. You're funny. Anyone who doesn't share your viewpoint is the enemy, right? Half the population of your fellow Americans are your enemy? That's the definition of un American. It doesn't matter which "side" you're on. It was called the UNITED states for a reason. Why don't you go back where you can get up every day and lick his and Musk's bυtt ϲrɑϲk morning noon and night? Yummy! You realize you're in Thailand where nobody gives a FIying ƒv(ϲk what you think, right? Nobody. Talk to the hand. dogshit.m4v
  12. The cry of the American NAZl: "you will not replace us" Zieg HeiI!
  13. The theme song of the American NAZl: "you will not replace us". So when and where is your next KKK rally? Zieg Heil!
  14. We tend to evolve when society requires it
  15. Keep in mind that this is the same seesaw that has always existed. If the baht weakens then the strong foreign currency's buying power will bring more dollars and other currency into Thailand, people will be more motivated to come here and spend. I will certainly be more inclined to bring more money in from the US. The exchange rate has been unusually low in favor of the baht for some time, between 33 and 34 baht to the dollar. It has not long ago been as high as 38 baht to the dollar. I will admit to not knowing enough about the actual Thai economy to understand the real impact of this on Thailand as a whole. I suspect, just as in my case, it doesn't affect the general population in any real sense. Cheers everyone, enjoy your day.
  16. First of all most of the Trump white house are functionally illiterate, so writing to them? Seriously? Secondly, the US doesn't care one whit what happens to Thailand, in Trump's eyes it's just another one of his <deleted>hόIe countries (his words, not mine). Thailand has nothing to offer Trump in return for favors. It's going to be quid pro quo for the next four years. Just forget about the US, as I have.
  17. Is that the rule then? I have a retirement visa and live here 7 - 8 months, sometimes more sometimes less, have an apartment with a lease, go back to the US May - Sept, avoiding the rainy season and minding the house I still own, but I'm not an "expat"? So I take it you rewrote the entire Webster dictionary? Can I get a signed copy? You're silly. Nobody cares. I don't even use the word, nor does anyone I know. Even the "real" expats.
  18. Yes, bring in more drunk tourists, ya really can't have too much of a good thing.
  19. The US had the same silly "blue laws", now extinct for the most part. Yet, ironically, when legislature was on the table to allow sales on Sundays, liquor stores opposed it, they wanted to be able to have a day off without the competition stealing their business.
  20. Too light. Keep them in Thai jail for a year or so before deporting them. No bail. Flight risk, duh.
  21. You wouldn't be sick of him if you boycotted the subject and didn't rub your nose in his excrement.
