Currently, this technique is widely utilized with a high percentage of success in the United States, Canada, and Europe. However in Thailand, with the exception of our team at the Bangkok Hip and Knee Center, this procedure is not as yet readily available. We expect the Direct Anterior Approach to become the standard for hip replacement surgery in the near future”.

If this is true, he's my man. I noticed his qualifications before on the website and he is one of the doctors I intended to consult and visit. Must have anterior approach! Dislocations are 10x more common with posterior approach. Enough said! Also, need robotic surgery for absolute accuracy of placement, which is key to long-term success. I also made notes about "3D computer imaging during surgery." Important for placement. Gathering good info!

Here is recent thread I started.

Be aware that I was self funded and had top shelf room etc.

The total all up was approx 350k ....so not for faint hearted but care etc was 5 star. .

Now 5 week post op and tomorrow my walk routines will be single walking stick arm support.

Super. Bangkok Phuket is 550,000 THB, and that's because of a special package deal. 350 is damn cheap compared to my country. It's 1/10th the price of US. I was expected at least 400,000 minimum. I will pursue this guy. Thank you!

    Bangkok. Phythai 1 private.

    Excellent result..

Hi. Awesome. Which hospital please? What does Phythai mean? You had a private room? I am really just starting my search after I had a really serious hip flareup and am on crutches at the moment.

Did you have a hip replacement?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello expats. I'm going to need a total hip replacement on my right hip. Can't put it off much longer. I'm told that Thailand's #1 hip surgeon is Dr. Chanakarn in Chiang Mai. On the other hand, my local Bangkok Phuket hospital seems to have seasoned and competent hip surgeons. I'd like to avoid the travel (partly because I can barely walk). But, I don't want to be stupid if Dr. Chanakarn is a miracle worker. I'm weighing options. This is too important to make cost a deciding factor. CM would be cheaper by 150k baht or more.

Does anyone have experience with orthopedic surgeons in Thailand? Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok has a very seasoned guy who writes textbooks on this stuff. I figure I'll talk with three doctors. Thanks for any guidance!

  5. My ship has come in: I can finally afford health insurance here in Thailand, but I have literally no experience buying it. Hoping for recommendations for agents, plans, and companies. I don't want to make a stupid mistake and find out later. I'm getting older, and Thailand is my home. Asking for guidance to avoid getting swindled. I'd like to choose an established company that's going to be around for many decades, so I don't get locked out after 80.

  6. Alright, so, to be on the safe side, I'll keep depositing 65k each month through October (renewal month). I already have the 800k in the Thai account. When I go to renew, I'll try the deposit method and hopefully it goes fine. If not, I have the deposit method as backup. My embassy no longer offers the affidavit. I understand that 3 months before extension is enough, but TIT, so I would rather be cautious.

I'm doing it because it's easier and I won't forget to make a deposit one month and be screwed. Thanks!

  7. Hi all. I have been on a retirement visa for 7 years, meaning yearly extensions based on income. I deposit 65k baht or more every month into my Thai account. I'm not due to extend until October. What would be involved with changing my method to the deposit method? I can deposit 800k baht in a Thai bank now and just leave it there. What are the steps? I happen to be in Phuket, but will move to Pattaya. Thanks!

  8. But seriously, I applied and got no email. It's not in spam. Do they need to approve and process it? I also did lost password (though I never set a password). I click send and get "success" message.

Zero has arrived in my inbox. Nor in spam. I made no errors. Either their email system is delayed or they need meatware to check my submission.

You should go through a good broker. I use AA, they have expat staff, specialize in expat policies, and will help with after care (i.e. any issues with claims) .  www.aainsure.net My broker there is Jenny out of their hua Hin office [email protected]  Can do it all by email, no need to go in person. Jenny and also Matthieu in that office have provided me great service and gone above and behind in  helping ensure all claims paid.

Your age will greatly affect the range of choice.  Also need to consider how long you expect to be here for, if planning on living out your old age here then there are a host of concerns not otherwise relevant - including whether lifetime renewal is guaranteed, how much rates go up with age, and (very important!) whether they can raise premiums based on claims history. (The latter -- which all Thai-based insurers are allowed to do --  can result in pricing you out making a guarantee of lifetime renewal not worth much)

    Great. Thanks.

This has all the warning signs of a clever scam... your username even sounds vaguely Nigerian which is a red flag in itself.

But taking you at your word, good luck getting your jewelry through that den of thieves and selling it at a profit

Check my history here, you silly goose. Scam of what?

Such a helpful answer. Sleep with one eye open, dude.

  11. Hi folks. So, I've inherited a lot of jewelry from a near relative. My grandparents were jewelers and the collection's value is high. I want to have it FedEx'd and insured and sent to me here in Phuket so I can sell it on Ebay. I know there are risks.

Many have advised me (from a previous post) of Thai-customs corruption and have suggested I find a customs broker "with connections" so I don't get ripped off. I'm fine with that. I'd rather pay a little extra than get caught up in a racket and lose everything. Any suggestions for a reliable customs broker with reasonable English skills? If you have experience doing this thing, please share. I am a total newbie to this.

I can either bring it here or sell for scrap. No other options are available. I have a limited window to do this and these are my choices. Scrap would get me 20% value, which is an unacceptable loss. Thank you!

you can allways go to your thai bank, phisically, and ask them to send the money.

if the payment is to an account with your name, there should not be a problem for amounts up to 50,000 USD

I was told work permit or no dice no way. Are you talking about a wire transfer? It was either Kbank or SCB that said no way without a work permit. Can this be overcome?

Dee Money is OK, but not sure of sending limits. I think they keep a tight lid on that. If I needed to move funds urgently, I used Thai PP.
