how difficult of a process is this cause im reading stories of people getting declined after making a boarder run and such, im really having 2nd thoughts about going now, %wise how likely is one to succeed in this?
Do not worry too much. It is not as bad as all that.
I would suggest:
- Buy a one-way ticket from Phuckett to Penang (probably on Air Asia, about $80) for the Monday/Tuesday closest to 30 days after your arrival in Phuckett.
- Arrive in Thailand on a visa exempt entry (30 days).
- (Optional: Reschedule you Penang flight and get a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry for about $60)
- Fly to Penang and get a single entry tourist visa for about $35. Accommodation in Penang iis fairly cheap, and it is worth visiting for a couple of days anyway.
- Travel back to Thailand overland cheaply, or fly back (your choice)
- Receive 60 days on entry back into Thailand.
- If you want to stay longer, apply for a 30-day extension of stay for about $60.
I have left out a lot of the details, but this should work fine.
could I buy a 2way ticket? from phuket-penang then back? or they wouldnt allow that?

thanks for the answers, so if all goes smoothly and I can get 90 days total at first would I be able to get another 60days by doing a border run? how easy is this/ hard is this?

so I just talked to the woman from the thai embassy and she said the only way I can do it is a border run from laos. So yea thanks s/o to the guy who suggested that, the woman said I can only extend 60 days at a time so if I plan on staying longer than 3 months I'd have to do 2 border runs?

so Im a 21 year old guy whos been travelling europe for the past few months and I want to go to phuket for 4-5 months. Im currently in budapest and went to the thai embassy but was told that since Im not a hungarian citizen I cant recieve a tourist visa for thailand from here in budapest and was told to apply once I get to thailand (the woman said its very easy to get). I have yet to buy a plane ticket but I'm gonna buy one tonight for tomorrow.
as I understand I have to get a ticket with a return flight for 30>days or I wont be let through? so if I do this whats the step by step process once I get to phuket in order for me to stay there for 4-5months?

So I got a 2way ticket in and out from bangkok for 30 days> but I'm traveling to phuket today and just bought my ticket (one way ticket). Will I need a ticket back to bangkok in order to travel to phuket or no? Can I just tell them that I'm going to buy one out of thailand once I get to phuket?
