SCB, no more exemption from facial recognition in app
Ok so I got the same notification as everyone. Signed a waiver before that got canceled Went to the SCB Branch for them just to call the call center for me. In the end there is no face recognition for foreigner with passport accounts 🙂 When I showed my pink ID card she was excited though but the problem is they can’t change the account to the pink ID card when you opened it with a passport nor can you open another account. Even closing and opening a new ones doesn’t work lol 😂 everytime over 50k now call the call center or in the branch. A no go for me I will leave this account for now and use other banks but reading here it seems all have problems now? I can confirm though UOB has higher limits and face recognition works maybe it’s because they out of Singapore originally ? I transfer often over 150-200k in one transaction there with face scan via the app

Solar Power is cheap and it’s going to get even cheaper very soon.
Yeah I am also checking between Deye and Growatt. The "Thai" community is praising Deye a lot. They just had some new models released when I recall right. The battery you mentioned looks exactly what I like price/quality wise. @BritManToo I really like these PowMr but what I read is they are on the lower end of the quality. Still I hear stories like yours where there is no problem with it. That's where it's getting complicated in my mind how to really "measure" what brand is quality and what brand is just not quality because all? of them come from china anyways.

I am one of these Huawei owners 😄 what is the go to brand in your opinion to build a Solar System in 2025? In my research the market is quite "complicated". I can't really figure out a winner between all the brands in terms of reliability, quality and price. All I know is I wouldn't go for Huawei again due to the insane battery prices. My perfect system would be the 10 KW 1 Phase Huawei inverter (quite sad that this wasn't available 3 years ago as you can install up to 12 KW to it) with a nice 14-20 KW Powerwall, but it's just not worth the price (Huawei) 😄 Planning to upgrade once I get my money back from my Huawei system and I think I want to buy another brand this time but it should be still be reliable and don't burn down the house.

Smart Home automations - anybody using?
Automated my home with Home Assistant and also integrated my Huawei Inverter via https://github.com/wlcrs/huawei_solar It's just awesome to run automations if you have enough "free" energy 😄

Refusing to pay customs
One tip if you get "private" packages even via DHL and Co. Just send stuff second hand 🙂 e.g. without packaging. Used clothes and so on. You can value these items much lower as they are USED and Dirty and so you stay under certain tresholds. Works quite well for me lately since they really enforce the 1500 THB limit.. But I think today I really had to pay that 7% on top of the package lmao... I had to pay 78 THB... but I am fine with that. They do it now differently they attach a letter to the package and write it big on it and still release it directly. I guess if the tax is low they do it like that because if I had to pay higher tax I had to make the online payment first before it was delivered the next day. (at least the online platform to pay the duty works flawless) Thai Post delivers normal private DHL packages here in Thailand as well the small ones you send as a private person. Please don't judge me if this is okay or not but I find it ridiculous to pay Import Taxes on some package that your family member sends you which is valued under 50$.....

Foreigners and their overseas income: what next?
Don't worry long enough here to know this part. I mean the Weed topic is another one 😄 lets legalize weed and now they see the consequences and try to revert it. But I never thought they don't understand why foreigners come here and invest. It's also weird to do this when the (Thai) economy is struggling.

Foreigners and their overseas income: what next?
The damage is really made. Imagine you want to emigrate to Thailand now.. who with a right mindset is willing to come here now after all these uncertainty and new tax laws. It really feels like they did something without thinking about the consequences. Who really thinks that people will still invest into Thailand now when next year they really bring the law to tax the whole world income. Chinese investors will also not like it. I think the Thai officials will realize that at some point and give tax incentives as they try already with some new visa types. But we will see how all this ages in the next 24 months.

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
*who has less than 500k THB in their bank account 😄

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
If this gets enforced (not only a law that no one cares about) then this is the max exodus Thailand wants to see. They can't have their mind right 😄 first they close the 1 year loophole (which is something I can live with) but now they wanna play world police 😄 It's so funny on the other hand they want everyone coming (Visa's for everyone lol) and on the other hand they make rules that will not favor any foreigner living here anymore.

The New Skytrain (continued for 2019)
Yes so in the end this line is on hold till anyone decides to pay for it 🙂 I agree a lot of overpriced house projects now here around me and everyone is doing Marketing with "Skytrain is coming", luckily I bought years ago and didn't speculate on the monorail. Just monitoring what happens and will update again in one - two years here I guess if there are any news 🙂 I still believe in the next 10 years this project will happen hopefully 😄

The New Skytrain (continued for 2019)
Update 2024 regarding the Railway Bang Na to the Airport... https://www.thaipbs.or.th/news/content/336971 Bangkok announced the cancellation of the construction project for 3 electric train routes "Silver Line - Gray Line - Blue Line" due to insufficient budget and wanting to return it to the government to do it themselves. To connect to the future common ticket system with other electric train lines In the end Bangkok gives the responsibility for this project back to the Ministry of Transport so they have to use their budget and not Bangkok's Budget 😄 As a lot of the line is anyways in Samut Prakan I was wondering who takes care of the whole project. Not the best news in another article I read that the studies suggested that the passenger demand will only be high enough if the line ends at the airport which was planned in a later stage of the project and not from the beginning. While I still think the line is needed and would have a great demand (ending at the airport) this will be all postponed now and I don't see this line opening before 2032 or so if ever.

Cooking with Ooni Wood Fired Pizza Oven
Yeah super disappointed that no one distributes this Ooni ovens in Thailand... you really need to bring it by yourself or risk big import taxes when shipping it here (which I wouldn't risk made already bad experience here with crazy high import taxes) Great stuff once someone distributes it I will also get me one and that propane conversion which seems to get better results. Till then Gallery Pizza and others have to just send me some good pizza via Delivery 😄 and my Weber bbq has to make me some Cheeseburgers.
