Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee Thai agricultural officials have launched a scheme offering farmers 1,000 baht per rai, with strict criteria for eligibility. The Department of Agricultural Extension warns against scams, emphasising that no fees or direct communication via SMS or LINE will be involved. The Cabinet recently approved a financial support project to aid rice farmers in managing and improving their crop quality. This initiative is capped at a maximum of 10 rai per household, translating to a limit of 10,000 baht (US$295). Phiraphan Khorthong, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, elaborated that eligible participants must be registered rice farmers for the 2024/2025 production year. This requirement aligns with the department’s criteria and conditions for registration and updating the farmer registry for the year 2024. Farmers eligible for this support must have cultivated their crops between May 1 and October 31, 2024. For those in southern Thailand, the planting period for the first cycle extends from June 16, 2024, to February 28, 2025. The Department of Agricultural Extension is currently compiling a list of qualifying farmers and will submit these names to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC) starting tomorrow. Farmers are advised to verify their registration and entitlement under this program via the online farmer registration website or through the FARMBOOK application. Phiraphan Khorthong reiterated the importance of vigilance against fraudsters. He stressed that all transactions with the department are free of charge and that they will not send communication directly through SMS or LINE. Any doubts should be directed to the nearest district agricultural office. The registration of farmers is a critical task undertaken annually by the Department of Agricultural Extension. This process is pivotal in planning production and marketing strategies and implementing supportive measures tailored to farmers’ needs. It also facilitates the creation of various projects aimed at offering assistance to the agricultural community, reported KhaoSod. Providing false information to the government carries penalties under sections 137 and 267 of the Penal Code. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-11

Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A tragic incident unfolded in Sattahip, Chon Buri as police located a high school student from a prominent private school suspected of fatally stabbing a younger student. The altercation, which began as a challenge and escalated into a physical confrontation, ended with the first-year student succumbing to his injuries after being stabbed in the back. Police officers, including Thanaphon Klin Kasem, the Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station, and investigative teams, responded promptly to the incident. The suspect, a 14 year old student, was found approximately 400 metres from the scene in a residential area of Bang Sare, Sattahip district, Chon Buri province. Police coordinated with the suspect’s guardians to bring him in for questioning, accompanied by a multidisciplinary team. Discussions with the parents revealed that the students had prior conflicts at the school. The second-year student alleged that the younger student provoked him by giving him challenging looks, leading to mutual taunts. This tension culminated in a chat message arranging a meeting to resolve their issues, which tragically spiralled out of control. “Upon meeting, a verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight. The younger student attempted to leave for home but was unexpectedly stabbed from behind, resulting in his death. Legal proceedings are underway, considering the suspect’s juvenile status.” The victim, referred to as Child A, was found by his mother in a state of distress after the stabbing. The heartbreaking scene left the family in shock, grappling with the loss of their son. The mother was reportedly in tears, expressing disbelief over the senseless act of violence. The incident sparked conversations about school safety and the measures needed to prevent such tragedies. It highlights the importance of addressing conflicts among students before they escalate into violence. Schools and communities are urged to foster environments where students feel safe and supported, with accessible conflict resolution resources. The police confirmed that they are handling the matter with sensitivity due to the ages of those involved. The focus remains on understanding the circumstances that led to the confrontation and ensuring that justice is served appropriately, reported KhaoSod. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-11 -

Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon Buri province has clarified the circumstances surrounding an incident involving Moo Deng, Thailand’s famous pygmy hippo, and a piece of tissue paper. Concerns arose after a video surfaced online showing Moo Deng sniffing and chewing on the tissue, prompting worries about her health. Speculation initially suggested that a zoo visitor had dropped the tissue into Moo Deng’s enclosure, with calls made for the zoo to review camera footage to identify the individual responsible. However, the situation took a different turn when the Facebook page of Khamoo and the Gang confirmed that it was, in fact, a monkey that dropped the tissue while hanging on the enclosure’s fence. Moo Deng’s keeper, Atthapon Nundee, assured that the matter was quickly resolved. “A caretaker disposed of the tissue paper shortly after it was noticed. Moo Deng just chewed it a bit, and did not swallow.” The incident highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal within the zoo premises. Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoy urged visitors to make use of the provided bins to prevent animals from coming into contact with litter, reported Bangkok Post. “We ask visitors to dispose of their trash properly to ensure the safety and well-being of our animals.” Moo Deng, who continues to charm her fans as a celebrity hippo, is now five months old. The zoo remains committed to her care and safety, ensuring that she thrives in her environment. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-11

Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A notorious online gambling site owner recently attacked a reporter during police questioning, further intensifying the ongoing investigation into his criminal activities. The incident occurred yesterday, December 10, at Chaiyapruek Police Station in Nonthaburi, following the arrest of the suspect. The suspect, 38 year old Chakkrik Philaowan, has been under scrutiny for allegedly assaulting a 24 year old employee, identified only as No, by striking him with a metal object on the head, forcing hot water down his throat, and starving him for two days. This brutal treatment reportedly stemmed from Chakkrik’s suspicion that No had been communicating with his girlfriend. After being detained by the police for a drug test, which returned positive, Chakkrik was escorted back to the station for further questioning. As he was being led from the police van to the holding cell, Chakkrik encountered Levi, a reporter from Amarin Channel, who had interviewed him the previous day. During the previous interview, Chakkrik showed irritation but refrained from any physical confrontation. However, yesterday, his actions escalated when he grabbed Levi’s arm, pulled him closer, and headbutted him, causing a significant commotion among the news team. Levi, left shocked, was immediately taken to safety by the police. Following the incident, 25 year old Nakharin Khotsri, another reporter from Amarin TV, filed a formal complaint against Chakkrik at Chaiyapruek Police Station. Nakharin recounted that he was at the station to cover the case’s developments when Chakkrik, while being escorted back to the cell, violently headbutted him in the mouth, causing a split lip. Nakharin had been attempting to question Chakkrik about the drug test results when the attack occurred. Nakharin expressed his disbelief over the incident. “I was here to follow up on the case and, while trying to ask about the drug findings, he just pulled me in and headbutted me. It was shocking.” His complaint accuses Chakkrik of assault, citing the suspect’s apparent displeasure over questions asked the previous day. During the prior encounter, Nakharin had asked Chakkrik if he was worried about his mother, to which he responded with visible annoyance. “Worry about yourself first.” He was then whisked away by police. This exchange is believed to have contributed to Chakkrik’s aggressive behaviour during yesterday’s incident. After the headbutt, Chakkrik reportedly smirked and made a cutting remark, further cementing his lack of remorse. “You asked disrespectful questions.” Preliminary investigations by Police Colonel Somchai Chukaew, head of Chaiyapruek Police Station, have been initiated. Officers are collecting evidence, including photographs of the scene, and have facilitated Nakharin’s medical examination at Pak Kret Hospital 2. This medical report will support the legal case against Chakkrik for assault. The incident has drawn attention to Chakkrik’s history of violent behaviour. Previous reports indicate that he had severely beaten a site administrator, forcing him to drink scalding water, which resulted in multiple injuries. Despite these allegations, Chakkrik has shown no remorse, refusing to apologise, and even taking measures to destroy evidence by dismantling CCTV systems and discarding firearms. His girlfriend, who also suffered injuries, claimed to have accidentally walked into a glass door. Police efforts have ramped up, with recent operations leading to the seizure of firearms and ammunition from Chakkrik’s associates, reported KhaoSod. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-11

Health officials suspended after video of fatal restraint emerges By Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Two health officials at Kantharalak Hospital in Sisaket province have been suspended and are under investigation following the death of 31 year old man. Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee Two health officials at Kantharalak Hospital in Sisaket province have been suspended and are under investigation following the death of 31 year old man. The incident, which sparked significant attention and concern, occurred after a video surfaced showing the patient, Sa-ard Boonlabeing, forcibly restrained by hospital staff. His family, deeply troubled by the circumstances of his death, sought an autopsy, which suggested brain injury from a hard object. The video, widely circulated and broadcast, depicted Sa-ard being held down by four staff members as he attempted to leave his hospital bed. This fuelled accusations that excessive force was used, leading to the tragic outcome. The family, suspecting foul play, had the body examined at the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute, where the cause of death was linked to brain trauma. Sisaket’s Public Health Officer, Thanong Weerasangphong, expressed condolences to Sa-ard’s family and apologised for the incident. He acknowledged the severity of the actions captured in the video and admitted that the situation highlighted a potential lack of training among staff in handling patients. Thanong emphasised that the health office is committed to conducting a fair investigation, ensuring justice without bias. The Provincial Health Office has initiated disciplinary action by suspending the involved staff members and forming a committee to investigate the incident further. Thanong assured the family that the hospital would fully cooperate with the inquiry and provide clarity once all information was gathered. He reiterated that any misconduct discovered would be addressed according to the rules and that the hospital’s director would issue a detailed statement on the matter soon. Hospital misconduct Additionally, Thanong mentioned that the case falls under the provisions of Thailand’s National Health Security Act, specifically Section 41, which deals with compensation for harm caused by medical treatment. The family will receive due consideration under these regulations, and discussions are ongoing regarding further steps. Meephon Boonla, 70 year old Sa-ard’s uncle, voiced his distress upon viewing the video, stating that his nephew did not display any aggressive behaviour warranting such treatment. “Seeing the footage made it clear to me that such actions were unjustifiable. He was neither fighting nor causing a scene.” He expressed his dissatisfaction with the hospital’s initial response and insisted that those responsible should have admitted fault from the beginning. The family’s disappointment extends to the perceived delay in law enforcement response, as they were unable to file a complaint immediately, reported KhaoSod. The Sa-ard family is now grappling with the aftermath of this incident, seeking both justice and accountability. Meephon, highlighting the emotional toll the situation has taken, questioned why it took so long for the truth to emerge and why institutional transparency was lacking. “If the roles were reversed, if it were your relative treated this way, what would you do?” Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-11

Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee Police in Nonthaburi apprehended a suspect linked to a notorious gambling website, seizing a cache of firearms and ammunition in the process. The arrest underscores ongoing efforts to bring the site’s elusive owner to justice, following a violent incident involving the website’s admin. Police moved swiftly to arrest 22 year old Natthaphong Kosasaeng, at a car park in Royal Mansion, located on Rama 2 Road in the Chom Thong district of Bangkok. The arrest came as Natthaphong attempted to relocate firearms from a condominium on Wutthakat 57 Alley, also in the Chom Thong district, to evade a police search. The room in question belongs to Chakkrit, known as M Pilawan, the alleged mastermind behind the gambling operation. M is accused of assaulting the website’s admin, 24 year old Manoporn or No Phonin, inflicting serious injuries, including multiple leg fractures. Manoporn managed to flee M’s residence and sought assistance from a friend before reporting the incident to the police at Chaiyaphruek Police Station in Nonthaburi. The incident had previously been reported in the media, drawing public attention to the case. Investigations revealed that Natthaphong, or Art, had been directed by Chakkrit to remove the firearms and ammunition from his apartment to hide them elsewhere. This was intended to prevent the discovery of the weapons by law enforcement during anticipated searches. Police discovered a .45 calibre pistol with no serial number and 10 rounds of ammunition in Natthaphong’s possession. Consequently, all items were confiscated, and Natthaphong was charged with illegal possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition in public without a permit. He was subsequently handed over to Bang Mod Police Station for further legal proceedings. In a preliminary statement, Natthaphong admitted to following M’s orders to relocate the firearms and ammunition, fearing the police would discover them after the incident became news. He expressed concern that law enforcement would extend their investigation to the apartment, leading to the seizure of the weapons, reported KhaoSod. Police are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend Chakkrit for questioning and to proceed with legal action. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-10

Picture courtesy of KhaoSod By Bright Choomanee A group of disgruntled individuals, led by Thammanun Tangtim, known as King of Saphan Mai, filed a complaint against a construction company owner for allegedly abandoning projects and withholding employee salaries, resulting in damages exceeding 30 million baht. The incident took place yesterday, December 9, at the Crime Suppression Division on Phahonyothin Road. Phrae, a former employee whose full name remains confidential, shared her experience of working for the construction company in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province for four to six months but received payment only for the first month. She mentioned that around 30 to 40 other employees faced similar situations. The company’s excuse was an inability to collect payments from clients, leading to a total damage of over 2 million baht (US$59,434). Although some employees have reported the matter to the police, others hesitate due to fear of threats. Reports were filed at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station but the case has seen little progress. Phrae suspects that the company owner has connections with influential figures in the province. Following her report, she received threatening phone calls and noticed people monitoring her whereabouts. She was even confined in an employee room for four hours when the owner demanded her resignation at night. Navaporn, a representative of the victimised clients, recounted her ordeal. She intended to build a house and posted a request for contractors on social media. The construction company owner contacted her, claiming they could deliver the desired house design for 1,162,815.29 baht (US$34,555). She agreed and made an initial payment of 220,608.88 baht (US$6,555). The owner also suggested selling her unused garage roof for 15,000 baht (US$445), yet she never received the money. After dismantling the roof, no further construction work was undertaken. When Navaporn inquired about the construction schedule, the company claimed an error in the house’s pricing, raising it to approximately 1,800,000 baht (US$53,487). Navaporn reluctantly agreed but still witnessed no progress, prompting her to cancel the contract. She subsequently reported the issue to Thung Khru Police Station, where the case was treated as a criminal matter due to multiple victims. Navaporn later discovered that the company had similarly defrauded about 10 other clients, resulting in damages of approximately 30 million baht (US$891,450), reported KhaoSod. Thammanun explained the group’s visit to the Crime Suppression Division, highlighting the numerous victims and significant financial damages involved. He called on the Ministry of Labour to consider the case and ensure justice for the affected parties. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-10 -

Upon his arrival in Nakhon Ratchasima, local inquiries with neighbours were fruitless, as his son appeared to have moved away. Armed with a walking cane and limited funds, Lung Lek Wongjaiya spent all his 2,000 baht on motorcycle taxis seeking his son, leaving him with just 8 baht for the walk back to his hometown of Koh Pho in Chonburi. With only one set of clothes, he endured sleeping rough, sustained by the kindness of strangers who offered food, water, clothing, and a small amount of cash. Despite his right eye being completely blind, which compounded his ordeal, Lung Lek remained determined. Along the way, near a temple, a local kindly provided him with soybean milk, cash, and a meal. Touched by his plight, a local reporter arranged a bus ticket for Lung Lek’s return journey, with the minibus owner offering a special fare. Efforts are now underway by relevant agencies to assist Lung Lek in his quest to find his son, with hopes rising as they continue their search, reported The Pattaya News. -- 2024-12-09

Photo via Channel 7 By Petch Petpailin A Thai woman is seeking assistance after she and her male colleague were attacked by an unidentified man on Soi Charan Sanitwong 35 in the Bangkok Noi district of Bangkok on Friday, December 6. The 31 year old victim, identified only as A, reached out to the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive and shared her story publicly, hoping to identify the attacker soon. The incident occurred at approximately 10am on the road she used daily to commute to work. A explained that she and her colleague were riding a motorcycle along Soi Charan Sanitwong when a man wearing a green long-sleeve jacket and a full-face motorcycle helmet approached them from behind. The man attempted to kick their vehicle to force them to crash, prompting her to speed away. The man persisted and manoeuvred in front of them, forcing them to stop. He then suddenly punched both A and her colleague, focusing his attack on A. Witnesses intervened, causing the attacker to flee the scene. A and her colleague immediately reported the incident at Bang Khun Non Police Station before seeking medical treatment at a hospital. The police have not yet provided any updates on the case. A insisted she had no prior conflict with the attacker or anyone else. She stated that she was riding the motorcycle slowly and carefully, ruling out the possibility of a traffic-related altercation. Since the attack, A has been living in fear, concerned that the man might return to harm her or her four-year-old child while they travel alone. The founder of Saimai Survive, Ekkaphop Lueangprasert, pledged to follow up on the case with Bang Khun Non Police Station. He also plans to accompany A to the Ministry of Justice to seek government protection and compensation. This incident is reminiscent of a similar random attack in July near the On Nut BTS Station in Bangkok, where a homeless man punched a female victim in the face as she exited the station. The victim revealed that the attacker accused her of staring at him before launching the assault. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-09

As tensions escalated, the former husband arrived at her home, and an argument ensued. During the altercation, he threatened to burn the house before dashing inside. Moments later, flames and smoke emerged from the room, as he fled the scene in a vehicle.
