Photo via KhaoSod By Petch Petpailin A Thai minibus driver raped a female passenger after tricking her into performing a ritual for good fortune, and then abducting her to a hotel in Pattaya. The victim filed a complaint against the minibus driver, Mueang, at Na Jomtien Police Station following the sexual assault on October 10. The incident occurred while the victim was travelling in Mueang’s minibus from the Isaan province of Sisaket to the Rama II area of Bangkok. The victim explained that Mueang informed her that she would be his last passenger, as he had to take others to Chon Buri first. There were eight passengers, including the victim, on that day. Mueang gradually took each passenger to their destination, leaving only the victim, as he said he would. Instead of travelling directly to Rama II, Mueang suggested that the victim perform a ritual for good fortune and offered to take her to a well-known place where the ritual could be performed. Mueang then took the victim to Chakngewaw Market in the Bang Lamung district of Pattaya to buy flowers as offerings. He then went to a hotel in the area instead of the sacred place he promised. Mueang raped the victim at the hotel and then continued the journey to take her to Rama II. Frightened, the victim asked to be dropped off mid-journey at a petrol station and went to the police station after Mueang left. Police arrested Mueang yesterday, December 12, at a cassava farm in the Nam Kliang district in Sisaket province. Officers did not reveal whether Mueang admitted to the crime. The details of the legal charges brought against Mueang were not revealed, but he is expected to be charged under Section 276 of the Criminal Law: sexual assault. The penalty is imprisonment from four to 20 years and a fine from 80,000 to 400,000 baht. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13

Photo via Channel 7 By Petch Petpailin A Thai man stole motorcycles belonging to locals in the Isaan province of Nakhon Ratchasima and later parked them outside a police station. His motive remains unclear. The owner of a grocery store in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province shared CCTV footage of the suspect, who stole his sidecar motorcycle, with Channel 7 yesterday, December 12. In the footage, the suspicious man is seen walking through the community wearing a cap to conceal his face. Unfortunately, the CCTV cameras in the area failed to capture the moment the thief stole the vehicles, so it was not clear whether the suspect was this man or not. The theft reportedly occurred in broad daylight. The grocery store owner explained that he parked his sidecar motorcycle outside his home and, as usual, left the key in the vehicle. However, the next morning, he discovered that the vehicle was missing. The store owner asked his son and employees to search for the motorcycle, and they eventually found it outside Ban Han Police Station on the night of December 11. The police station is located not far from his home. The victim questioned police about the motorcycle, but officers said they did not notice who parked it there. The police station also lacked security cameras. The store owner stated that he still did not know the thief’s identity. He added that his neighbour also fell victim to the same motorcycle thief, and the stolen vehicle was similarly left outside the police station. The victim urged the police to take the case seriously, even though no valuables were lost in these incidents. He expressed concern that the thief might commit more serious crimes in the future and might no longer return stolen property to the police station. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13

Thai man kills stepbrother over drug-fuelled chaos in Sisaket

Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A young man in Sisaket province reached a breaking point after years of family turmoil, leading to a tragic incident. Phu Sing Police reported on Wednesday, December 11, that a 33 year old man was found dead in his home after being stabbed three times in the chest. His 21 year old stepbrother was arrested at the scene with the weapon. The deceased, Rewat, reportedly had been involved in drug use for a decade, causing erratic and violent behaviour towards locals. Village chief Nopakit Phomkhon confirmed that Rewat’s aggressive behaviour had escalated over the past three to four years, often threatening and attacking others. The stepbrother, Suwat, on the other hand, was described as a responsible and hardworking man who built a home for his family. The situation reached a boiling point when Rewat demanded to use Suwat’s motorbike, a request Suwat denied due to Rewat’s tendency to sell valuables for drug money. Suwat had previously hidden the motorbike and other valuable items with neighbours to prevent their sale. Rewat threatened to destroy the motorbike if he found it, leading to another violent outburst where he attempted to harm their parents. Suwat, unable to tolerate Rewat’s destructive behaviour any longer, fatally stabbed him. Their 60 year old mother, Sawan, revealed that Rewat was her eldest son from a previous marriage while Suwat was her second child with her current husband. She recounted how Rewat’s personality changed drastically due to drug abuse, turning from a good-natured person into someone violent and unpredictable. He sold family possessions, including nine sacks of rice and charcoal meant for cooking, to finance his drug habit. Despite attempts to rehabilitate Rewat, he continued to relapse and never held a job, relying on family members for drug money. Sawan was not present during the incident but was informed by Suwat afterwards. She noted Suwat’s generally good behaviour, highlighting his work ethic, abstinence from alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs, and his role as the family’s main provider. Suwat had recently returned home from Bangkok, where he had been working, and planned to bring his wife and children back to live with him. However, the continued issues with his brother impeded these plans. Suwat disclosed that he had endured his brother’s behaviour for over five years, often receiving distressing calls from their parents about Rewat’s actions. On the day of the incident, Rewat had tried to borrow the motorbike from their father, presumably to sell it for drugs. When denied, Rewat threatened to kill their parents and burn the motorbike. Suwat, witnessing this, could no longer bear the situation. In a moment of desperation, he grabbed a knife, stabbed Rewat three times, and hid the weapon nearby before informing their mother of what he had done, reported KhaoSod. “I couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve had to listen to my parents’ worries for years. When he threatened them yesterday, I just snapped.” Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13 -

File photo for reference only A luxury home by the Mae Klong River in Ratchaburi, Thailand, found itself at the heart of a significant investigation, after police discovered more than 50 rare South American wildlife species illegally kept on the premises. The operation, orchestrated by Deputy Commander-in-Chief Arun Wachirasrisukanya and Chief Inspector Aphisan Chairat, exposed a burgeoning black market for exotic animals facilitated via social media. Acting on leads about illegal possession, officials executed a search at the riverside property. The homeowner, identified only as Tong, was present when officials uncovered the menagerie. Among the illegally housed creatures were cotton-top tamarins, squirrel monkeys, De Brazza’s monkeys, and even African grey parrots—all crammed into unsuitable cages. The animals' market worth surpassed 3 million baht, with particular concern for endangered species, such as the cotton-top tamarins, originating from South America. Officials reported eight cotton-top tamarins valued at about 150,000 baht each and ten squirrel monkeys priced at approximately 75,000 baht each. Tong confessed he acquired these rare animals via a Facebook group, lacking the requisite permits. He faced immediate charges for unlawful possession of protected wildlife and was detained for further legal action. This case underlines the increasingly rampant trade of exotic wildlife through online platforms. -- 2024-12-13

File photo for reference only Thai police initiated "CIB Crush Influence," targeting investors exploiting forest lands. Despite a failed capture of main suspects, they found a couple illegally farming corn in Mae Mo, Lampang, and took legal action. Commanded by Jiraphop Bhuridej of the Central Investigation Bureau, the operation involved police and forestry officials, addressing reports of investors clearing forests for corn plantations. These investors destroyed large forest areas by cutting down trees illegally. In the operation within the Mae Chang National Forest near Pong Taen Village, challenging terrain allowed suspects to escape moments before the officers arrived. Officers found signs of forest burning and seized four cleared plots, leading to over 91 rai of forest destruction and damage costs exceeding 6 million baht. A couple – a 63-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman – were found with a red pickup truck on the site, admitting to farming corn for years without legal permission. Though initially thought eligible for land use rights, further investigation revealed they violated regulations since 2017. The couple was submitted to Mae Mo Police Station for legal proceedings. Concerned locals demand action against influential investors responsible for forest exploitation, fearing environmental degradation. Authorities remain steadfast in pursuing those involved in these illegal activities. -- 2024-12-13

File photo for reference only A Thai man, Kawin Mahuakhao, is calling for a deeper investigation following the death of his mother, Somsi Mahuakhao, who passed away 10 days after receiving unlicensed chiropractic treatment in Roi Et, Isaan province. Kawin shared details on Facebook, believing the chiropractic session influenced his mother's death. Somsi sought treatment following stress from family issues and frequent panic episodes. Despite disagreements with Kawin over her superstitious practices, Somsi followed advice from her fortune teller, participating in a merit-making ceremony and the suggested chiropractic session. She recorded the treatment, showing unlicensed practitioners pulling on her limbs. Somsi died from a fractured artery, and initially, Kawin didn't attribute it to the treatment. However, a similar incident involving a Thai singer's death after a massage prompted him to suspect a connection to the chiropractic care. -- 2024-12-13

Photo: The Thaiger Early this morning in Mueang Trat, a seemingly minor fire rapidly evolved into a significant blaze, engulfing a forklift, stacks of wooden pallets, and over 40 trolleys at the now-closed Noen Sai branch of the Trat Provincial Cooperative Store. Although it narrowly missed the main store building, quick-thinking firefighters successfully contained the fire after a 30-minute battle. Arak, a security guard who started his shift at 8pm, initially thought he witnessed common rubbish burning. However, upon close inspection, he discovered a rapidly intensifying fire consuming nearby materials and promptly alerted police. Shortly after, officers and firefighters arrived alongside the Sawang Boonchuay Rescue Foundation to tackle the flames. Despite relentless efforts with chemical extinguishers, it was only the strategic deployment of water from the Tha Prik-Noen Sai Municipality fire trucks that stopped the fire from spreading further. Investigations by Mueang Trat Police have begun, but the fire's cause remains unknown—whether a consequence of arson or negligence. The Trat Provincial Forensic Office will perform more detailed analyses. The Noen Sai branch was already in dire straits before the incident. It faced closure earlier this year, haemorrhaging funds since 2014 due to fierce competition and investment missteps. Losses had mounted to roughly 138 million baht, forcing its shutdown in July, while the main branch continues its operations uninterrupted. -- 2024-12-13

Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A well-known ex-boxer and his group of friends were arrested for abducting and assaulting a rival in a violent act of revenge. The incident involved shooting and stabbing, leaving the victim seriously injured, and was sparked by a dispute over a friend’s girlfriend. Police, led by Montri Teskan, ordered the arrest of 23 year old Parinya in Bangkok. The arrest followed a warrant issued by the Hua Hin Provincial Court for attempted murder, unlawful detention causing serious injury, and theft. Parinya was apprehended in the Bang Khun Si area of Bangkok. Parinya, a former provincial boxing star, once commanded a fight fee in the tens of thousands. Along with five or six others, he chased his rival to Prachuap Khiri Khan province, angered by the abduction of a friend’s girlfriend. The group ambushed their rival, firing shots before forcibly binding and transporting him to Bangkok in a pickup truck. “The suspects used firearms to shoot at their rival group, then they tied up the victim, known as A, and drove him to Bangkok.” Once in Bangkok, they brutally assaulted him using guns, sticks, and knives, leaving him severely injured. They also stole several of his belongings, including a gold necklace and amulets. After the attack, the group abandoned him in the Rasburana area. Passersby assisted him to the hospital, where he remained for over 20 days recovering from his injuries. Once stable, A reported the incident to the police at Pak Nam Pran station. The police investigation led to the issuance of arrest warrants for all suspects involved. Parinya, upon arrest, denied the charges and was transferred to Pak Nam Pran Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13

Southern Thai man finally receives 10,000 baht government aid By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of KhaoSod A man from southern Thailand was overjoyed when the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) branch in Loei province finally tracked him down to ensure he received the government aid of 10,000 baht. Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A man from southern Thailand was overjoyed when the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) branch in Loei province finally tracked him down to ensure he received the government aid of 10,000 baht. The initiative was part of a final effort by the bank to help vulnerable groups secure their due benefits before the deadline. BAAC in Loei took extraordinary measures to contact their last remaining client for this scheme. They dispatched staff to find the individuals who were entitled to receive this financial aid but had not yet done so. According to Kraiwan Lomkhampha, the manager of the BAAC Loei branch, this payment was the third round of government aid for those with state welfare cards and people with disabilities, originally scheduled to be disbursed on November 21. However, two recipients failed to receive their funds, prompting the bank to take action to ensure they could claim what was rightfully theirs. The final individual to be located was Payap, who had reportedly been working in Bangkok or possibly other provinces, making communication challenging. Kraiwan explained that the bank needed to fulfil its responsibility in assisting residents to access the government programme. Efforts were made to reach Payap, whose account had been inactive for years, leading to its closure. Without an active account, the transfer of 10,000 baht could not be completed. “For this individual, they had an account with us before but had not been in contact for a long time. The account was closed about five years ago, which is why the transfer could not be processed.” Payap opened a new account today to facilitate the transfer of funds from the government. The new account needed to be set up before December 16 to ensure eligibility for another round of payments, scheduled for December 19. If Payap had not responded, the programme would have considered him to have forfeited his claim to the funds. Fortunately, BAAC Loei managed to assist all entitled individuals, with Payap being the last to successfully open an account and link it to the PromptPay service, reported KhaoSod. “This is really beneficial. It’s great that the staff went to such lengths to find those who are eligible but unable to claim their funds. “I was working in the south when my relatives contacted me, thanks to BAAC Loei’s staff reaching out to them. I’m grateful for their help, which allowed me to claim this amount.” Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13

Photo courtesy of The Nation By Puntid Tantivangphaisal In a scene worthy of a political drama, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra made a grand entrance as he joined his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, on a luxury train journey to Hua Hin. The trip, organised for Pheu Thai MPs and ministers, marked a rare public appearance for the controversial patriarch amidst ongoing investigations. Thaksin boarded the Royal Blossom train at Bang Bamru station, Bangkok, to join the five-carriage delegation that had set off from Hua Lamphong earlier that morning. Among the passengers were Paetongtarn’s siblings, Panthongtae and Pintongta, her husband Pitaka Sukawat, and their children, making it a true family affair. The ruling party’s top brass, including Deputy PM and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, were present. Suriya seized the opportunity to brief Paetongtarn on Thailand’s rail development progress before the train rolled out of Hua Lamphong at 8.30am. Thaksin’s arrival, just 50 minutes later, was a showstopper. Greeted by Paetongtarn and former PM Srettha Thavisin at the carriage doors, he embraced his daughter in a photo-op dubbed the “three prime ministers.” He then strolled through the train, shaking hands and exchanging smiles with Pheu Thai MPs before settling down with his family. Thaksin’s participation drew attention, as he is under investigation for allegedly dominating the party from behind the scenes, in violation of the Political Party Act. Paetongtarn expressed gratitude to Suriya for organising the trip and rail upgrades, admitting it was her first train journey in 20 years. The delegation is set to hold discussions in Hua Hin, where Thaksin will deliver a motivational speech, reported The Nation. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13

Thai teacher accused of striking boy’s penis with steel ruler By Petch Petpailin Photo via Channel 7 A Thai mother exposed the cruel behaviour of a teacher in the central province of Prachin Buri who allegedly struck her three year old son’s penis with a steel ruler causing severe injury. Photo via Channel 7 By Petch Petpailin A Thai mother exposed the cruel behaviour of a teacher in the central province of Prachin Buri who allegedly struck her three year old son’s penis with a steel ruler causing severe injury. The mother contacted several Thai news agencies to publicise her son’s story and seek appropriate punishment for the accused teacher. Channel 7 interviewed the family on December 12 and discovered that the abuse came to light on November 7. The boy‘s grandmother told the media that she was bathing her grandson, as usual, when he screamed and said that his penis hurt. She did not pay attention to the pain until the boy cried and told her about it again two hours later. The grandmother carefully checked his private parts and found bruising, so she immediately took the boy to hospital and called his mother. The boy was admitted to hospital overnight due to the inflammation of his genitals. The boy’s mother, 30 year old Darika, told the media that she continued to ask her son about the pain until he revealed that it was the result of being punished at school. According to the boy, the teacher hit his genitals with a steel ruler because he tore his book during class. Darika contacted the teacher about the matter but the teacher denied the accusation, saying the boy might have hurt himself while playing or contracted an illness outside school. Darika emphasised to the media that the medical examination confirmed that the boy had not been bitten by insects or contracted any diseases. Darika filed a complaint with the police but officers refused to accept it and asked her to wait for the official medical documentation, which could delay the case. Consequently, Darika brought the matter to the media, hoping to expedite the justice process. The Ban Phra Sub-district Administrative Organisation chief later insisted to Channel 7 that officials checked the classroom security cameras and found no evidence of the abuse the boy described. The teacher also told the sub-district officials that the day the boy claimed the incident occurred was a day off. The investigation’s conclusions and next steps are yet to be updated. Photo via Facebook/ ตั้ม จตุรงค์ พงษ์ศิริ By Petch Petpailin A Thai father accused an official from the sub-district administrative organisation in the Isaan province of Kalasin of hiring a scapegoat to plead guilty after a hit-and-run on November 2 that caused serious injuries to his son. The father, identified as Tam, revealed to Channel 7 that the accident occurred at around 2.30am on November 2, when his 22 year old son was riding a motorcycle home. The incident took place on Ban Nong Jong Road in the Kuchinarai district of Kalasin. According to Tam’s son, the black pickup truck veered out of its lane and collided with his motorcycle, causing him to lose consciousness. The pickup then reversed to the spot where Tam’s son was lying. At that moment, a rubber plantation worker witnessed the incident and approached with a flashlight. The plantation worker reported that upon seeing the flashlight, the driver returned to his vehicle and sped away from the scene. Emergency services were called to the site and found Tam’s son unresponsive. They administered CPR, after which he briefly regained consciousness. Sadly, he stopped breathing again, requiring further CPR. Eventually, he regained consciousness and was rushed to hospital. Tam’s son suffered multiple severe injuries, including a ruptured liver, spleen, and colon, along with broken arms and brain bleeding. Doctors advised the family to prepare for the worst as his condition was critical. Car owner denies The father reported the incident to Kuchinarai Police Station the following day and offered a reward to anyone who could identify the pickup driver. Police examined CCTV footage from security cameras and successfully identified the owner of the vehicle. The pickup truck was traced to an officer working at a sub-district administrative organisation in Kuchinarai. Police summoned the official for questioning. The officer arrived at the station accompanied by another man, a rubber plantation worker. The officer claimed that the plantation worker borrowed his vehicle and was responsible for the accident. However, Tam was unconvinced and alleged that the officer hired the worker as the scapegoat. Tam argued that the plantation worker looked completely different from the driver shown in the CCTV footage. He noted that the worker had a limp, while the driver in the footage did not. Additionally, the driver was dressed neatly, unlike the plantation worker. As of now, Tam’s claims have not been formally investigated or verified by the police. Fortunately, his son’s condition significantly improved, though he remains in hospital. Tam stated that he already spent over 200,000 baht on medical expenses and warned the suspect to take responsibility for his actions. Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-12-13
