A political debate concerning the potability of tap water in Bangkok sparked significant public attention. Renowned news presenter Sorayuth Suthassanachinda decided to test this claim himself by drinking a glass of tap water, leading to an array of reactions from concerned viewers. Sorayuth, a popular figure in Thai media, addressed the issue of drinkable tap water during his programme กรรมกรข่าว คุยนอกจอ (“Kamagon Kui Nork Jor”) highlighting the political controversy between the People’s Party and Pheu Thai Party regarding the policy’s origins. This debate coincided with the local elections for the mayor of Udon Thani, intensifying the political discourse. During the programme, Sorayuth requested his team to fill two glasses with tap water to demonstrate his belief in the safety of the city’s water supply. As his co-presenter, Bright Phichayatan, reached for a glass, Sorayuth humorously intervened, expressing his wish to avoid any unforeseen circumstances that might prevent her from reading the news the following day. In a show of confidence, Sorayuth consumed the entire glass of tap water, assuring viewers that he detected no chlorine taste. “I believe in this country.” The news presenter also jokingly acknowledged a slight stomach discomfort, leaving viewers in suspense about whether this was merely psychological. Photo courtesy of KhaoSodThe broadcast prompted a flurry of comments from viewers, many of whom expressed their concerns and jested about the potential consequences. “Who will read the news tomorrow?” “The last episode of ‘Khui Nork Jor.'” Despite the humour and light-hearted comments from viewers, the underlying concern remains significant. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the political parties involved will address the public’s concerns and whether Sorayuth’s stomach discomfort was indeed a mere coincidence or a testament to the quality of Bangkok’s tap water, reported KhaoSod. In Thailand, tap water is generally not considered safe to drink directly. While the water treatment facilities in urban areas like Bangkok may meet certain safety standards, contamination can occur in the pipelines that transport water to homes By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-19

Foreign man flees after sexually assaulting Thai woman in condo lift - video File photo for reference only A Thai woman took to social media to seek help in locating a foreign suspect who allegedly stalked and sexually assaulted her in the lift of her condominium. A Thai woman took to social media to seek help in locating a foreign suspect who allegedly stalked and sexually assaulted her in the lift of her condominium. The victim shared CCTV footage of the incident on her TikTok account, @khun_ning. In the video, the foreign man, wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, is seen entering the condominium premises on his motorcycle, shortly followed by the victim on her motorcycle. The suspect managed to bypass the security guard post with ease, leading the victim to assume he was a resident of the condominium. Once inside, the man followed the victim into the building and joined her in the lift. He exited the lift on the same floor as the victim, arousing her suspicion. The victim decided against entering her room and instead returned to the lift to go back to the lobby. The foreign man followed her into the lift again and began speaking to her. He then touched her face and other parts of her body and attempted to grab her hands. The woman appeared frightened and immediately ran out of the lift as soon as it reached the lobby floor. The foreign suspect then left the condominium on his motorcycle. The victim later gave an interview with Channel 8, revealing that the incident occurred late at night when she returned home from work. She insisted that she did not know the man and had never met him before. The incident sparked criticism of the condominium’s security team, as the footage showed the suspect entering the premises with no proper checks. Some netizens blamed the victim for wearing revealing clothing and allegedly putting herself in a dangerous situation. These comments were widely condemned by the online community for victim blaming. The woman later removed the footage from her TikTok account, stating that it caused distress to various parties, including the condominium management and the security team. She expressed hope that her interviews with the media would be sufficient for the police to apprehend the suspect. The nationality of the foreigner has not yet been confirmed but the victim suspected him to be from a Middle Eastern country. In a significant blow to an shadowy smuggling venture, Thai authorities have stopped the illegal trafficking of 2,700 kilogrammes of palm oil, following a series of raids along the Kra Buri River in the Ranong Province of Thailand. Four suspects have been detained in connection with the clandestine operation. The raids were executed by the 25th Infantry Special Task Force in collaboration with local police units and administrative officials. The first raid occurred at a secluded channel along the river in the small Pak Chan village of Baan Hat Chid, where a long-tail boat from a neighbouring country was found laden with illegally sourced palm oil. Two men, believed to be foreigners, were caught in the act of unloading the palm oil onto the riverbank. When cornered by the police, the suspects resorted to jumping in the river to evade capture, swimming safely back to their origin country. The authorities managed to secure 1,000 kilograms of palm oil left behind by the smugglers. In a similar operation conducted at another river channel in Pak Chan, officials thwarted another smuggling attempt. A boat carrying palm oil to Thailand was intercepted, and after a minor scuffle that resulted in the escape of two men, the police arrested three Thai nationals. A subsequent search uncovered a batch of palm oil weighing 1,200 kilogrammes. Finally, another raid was conducted at a third channel in Pak Chan, where officials discovered men loading palm oil into a pickup truck. When spotted, the men retreated on their boat, but not before one of their associates was apprehended. On inspection of the truck, 500 kilogrammes of illegal palm oil was seized. The detained individuals, three Thai nationals and one of undisclosed nationality, and the confiscated illegal palm oil, have been transferred to Pak Chan Police Station for further legal proceedings. This operation stands as a testament of Thai authorities' ceaseless efforts to clamp down on illicit trade and protect their border terrains. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-19

Intoxicated Monk Arrested for Hitchhiking and Extorting Donation in Chiang Rai File photo for reference only A peculiar incident unfolded in Chiang Rai yesterday as a monk, noticeably intoxicated, found himself on the wrong side of the law. A peculiar incident unfolded in Chiang Rai yesterday as a monk, noticeably intoxicated, found himself on the wrong side of the law. The 44-year-old was arrested after coercing a donation from a young motorist and exhibiting unsettling manners. The unusual episode prompts a broader discourse on propriety, religion, and the law. The events began to stir when Nichawee, a 20-year-old resident of Thung Ko in Chiang Rai, drove down to a tea plantation in Sri Kham. En route, she encountered a hitchhiking monk along the roadside. Obliging to his request for a lift, Nichawee soon discerned a pungent alcohol smell from the monk, invoking suspicion. The situation took an unusual turn as the monk, failing to specify a clear destination, asked Nichawee to stop by another monk on their way. To add to the conundrum, he then requested a donation of 790 baht (£17) under the pretence of replacing a damaged pilgrimage umbrella. Constrained by her financial capacity, Nichawee handed over 500 baht before proceeding on her journey. Disturbed by the unsettling experience, she reported the incident to the Mae Chan Police Station. Responding to Nichawee's distress call, officers from the Pha Mieng checkpoint set out to pinpoint the monk on the Mae Salong Nai public road. They found Areek Khuntiwaro, noticeably inebriated, struggling to maintain coherence. The alcohol stench was evident, thereby validating the young motorist's concern. Having admitted to consuming three bottles of Phaya Nak, a popular alcoholic beverage, Areek was escorted to Wat Pa Sang Luang for defrocking before being formally arrested and transferred to the Mae Chan Police Station for legal action. This peculiar episode underscores the unusual intersection of spirituality, morality, and the law. Concerns over religious propriety have heightened, with a monk's alcoholic hitchhiking trip leading to an arrest, an experience that a Chiang Rai motorist will not forget anytime soon. Alcohol-Fueled Hoax: Man Falsely Accuses Monk, Faces Charges File photo for reference only In an unexpected turn of events at Bangkok's Mo Chit Bus Terminal yesterday, a man falsely accused a monk of firing a gun into the sky, only to find himself under arrest after his impaired ruse unraveled. In an unexpected turn of events at Bangkok's Mo Chit Bus Terminal yesterday, a man falsely accused a monk of firing a gun into the sky, only to find himself under arrest after his impaired ruse unraveled. Police, led by Phuwadol Ounpho of the Bang Sue Police Station, received the report of a monk allegedly discharging two shots into the air on November 18 at 3pm. However, a search of the monk yielded no firearm, adding a perplexing layer to the alleged incident. The plot thickened when law enforcement officers, already on the scene, noticed the initial reporter of the incident, a man named Bamrung, in the same vicinity. Exhibiting odd behaviour and attempting to approach the monk, Bamrung quickly garnered the attention of the officers who discovered an air gun secreted on his person. He was promptly apprehended for further questioning at the Bang Sue Police Station. "I admit to drinking alcohol and making the call to the police”, admitted Bamrung during the interrogation. The real issue lay in the subsequent panic Bamrung's false accusation induced, culminating in charges of causing fear through threats. He was slapped with a fine of 1,000 baht which he was unable to pay, resulting in his detention. An attending officer reiterated the resource strain false alarms can have on the police force by detracting from genuine emergencies. The police stress the importance of reliable reporting and the repercussions of making false accusations. Bamrung's ill-considered actions serve as a potent reminder of the potential danger and disruption that reckless behaviour can cause, even if the gun in question was not lethal. The police remain steadfast in upholding public safety and assuring the delivery of justice. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-19

Thai Police Halt Maritime Smugglers: Massive Shellfish Seizure Highlights Ongoing Battle File photo for reference only Thai police forces have intercepted a foreign fishing vessel's attempt to smuggle a vast shipment of shellfish into the country. Thai police forces have intercepted a foreign fishing vessel's attempt to smuggle a vast shipment of shellfish into the country. The significant bust comes as a notable victory in Thailand's ongoing fight against illegal fishing and marine goods trafficking, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding national maritime resources. The praiseworthy operation took place on Sunday 17th November, orchestrated by the Department of Fisheries under the guidance of its head, Banchao Sukkaeo. Alongside Sukkaeo, the Marine Fisheries Protection and Suppression Unit, led by Prasert Khongyean, and half a dozen official officers from Krabi Marine Fisheries Protection and Suppression Centre diligently operated under the parameters of the Fisheries Act 2015 and its amendment two years later. Their concerted efforts paid off in the Ranong district, near the Andaman Sea, where they identified a Myanmarese vessel attempting to illicitly import shellfish sourced in Myanmar, intended for both local Thai commercial markets and wider distribution. Despite the suspects' successful escape during the apprehension attempt, the police managed to secure the smuggled goods. These included the vessel - labelled 'KT 2558' - and 90 sacks of shellfish, each weighing in at 45 kilogrammes. The total value of this illegally harvested shellfish was estimated to exceed 200,000 Thai baht. This operation is a reminder of the illegal fishing activities breaching the Fisheries Act 2015, explicitly as per Section 92 and Section 96, requiring due authorisation to import marine life. Violators face sizable punishments under Section 158 of the Act, attracting fines equalling up to five times the smuggled goods' value. The Department of Fisheries has since transferred the seized shellfish to Ranong's Provincial Police Station, marking the start of further legal proceedings. In compliance with department regulations, confiscated marine products will subsequently be distributed amongst Ranong's most underprivileged. Depicting the resolve of Thai authorities, Banchao Sukkaeo reiterated Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Akara Phrompa's call for increased vigilance against such illegal maritime activities. By cracking down on unlawful imports, they aim to uphold Thailand's fishing industry, maintaining its global reputation and contribution to worldwide food security. This latest seizure underlines Thailand's vigilant stance against illegal activities within its fishing sector. As Sukkaeo notes, such efforts have not only immediate local implications but resonate on a national economic scale too. An effective crusade against maritime smuggling like this promises a safer and more secure sea-trade environment, thus shaping Thailand's path to becoming an even stronger global aqua-food source. Ex-Senator: PM Must Resolve Golf Course Land Dispute File photo for reference only The unresolved Alpine Golf Course land dispute has trigged a renewed call to action by former Senator Somchai Sawangkarn. In his third open letter, Somchai has vehemently reminded Prime Minister Petongtarn Shinawatra of her duty to address this issue transparently and urgently. The unresolved Alpine Golf Course land dispute has trigged a renewed call to action by former Senator Somchai Sawangkarn. In his third open letter, Somchai has vehemently reminded Prime Minister Petongtarn Shinawatra of her duty to address this issue transparently and urgently. The core of the dispute involves a 924-rai plot in Pathum Thani which is currently under the dominion of Alpine Golf Course but is reportedly designated for Wat Thamikararam Worawihan, a revered Thai monastery. Somchai's discontentment towards this matter is palpable as he highlighted the need for the PM's office to function lawfully and to prioritise public welfare. He said, "The head of the government must perform her duties with honesty for the benefit of the country." The land was reportedly bequeathed to the temple by its late patron, Neum Chamnanchartsakd, as per her will in 1971. Despite the Council of State ruling in favour of the monastery's ownership rights, the land was mysteriously transferred to Alpine Real Estate and Alpine Golf and Sports Club. Adding fuel to the fire, PM's mother, Khunying Potjaman Damapong, is suspected to be a shareholder in these establishments. And in another seemingly unrelated political stratum, Sonthiya Sawasdee, a known political activist, has submitted a petition to the Election Commission calling for a probe into former PM Thaksin Shinawatra's alleged dual nationality. This inquiry could particularly focus on indications of Thaksin's dual citizenship in Montenegro, flouting the country's strict regulations against it. "There are concerns about reports Thaksin had bought dual citizenship in Montenegro or another country," claimed Sonthiya. Both these issues distinctly illustrate the swirling vortex of political and legal challenges currently engulfing the reigning government, triggering a higher level of public and political scrutiny. Over 900 Endangered Wildlife Seized in Thailand to Return Home to Madagascar File photo for reference only In an unprecedented move, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) in Thailand has announced that over 900 rare wildlife species, illegally smuggled into the country, will be sent home to Madagascar. In an unprecedented move, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) in Thailand has announced that over 900 rare wildlife species, illegally smuggled into the country, will be sent home to Madagascar. In a significant push against wildlife trafficking, the operation sets a benchmark for international collaboration to preserve endangered species. The 963-strong troupe of animals seized includes ring-tailed lemurs, brown lemurs, spider tortoises, and radiated tortoises. Attapol Charoenchansa, the chief of DNP, made the announcement on November 18th, noting that the animals are currently being taken care of by officials. "This is a form of international collaboration to protect and preserve threatened animal species. It also demonstrates our commitment to fighting crimes against wildlife," Attapol emphasised. The animals were confiscated from a smuggling operation in Chumphon province in May following a tip-off about illicit wildlife transportation from Indonesia to the southern Thai province of Satun. The subsequent crackdown saw the interception of four vehicles laden with a shocking total of 1,117 live and dead animals. As a result, six culprits fell into the hands of law enforcement. Madagascar, known for its diverse and unique proliferation of wildlife, most of which are native to the island, will play a pivotal role in the repatriation process. Many of the confiscated species are classified as near-extinct or threatened under Annex I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development in Madagascar, Max Andonirina Fontaine, is expected to supervise the proceedings, which kick-off with a ceremony at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Thailand. Three separate flights facilitated by Qatar Airways will transport the rescued animals back to their indigenous land. Fontaine is poised to accompany the first batch of wildlife on the journey back home, with departures pencilled in for November 28th, November 30th, and December 2nd. The impending return of these critters to Madagascar emphasises a promising stride in international efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and preserve endangered species. This landmark action is set to serve as a testament to global solidarity against ecocrimes. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-19

Police fined a foreign man 500 baht for physically assaulting a Thai restaurant worker in the Patong neighbourhood of Phuket. The foreign attacker also issued an apology to both the victim and the restaurant owner. Pictures of the incident, showing the foreign man in all-white clothes attacking the Thai man outside a restaurant in Phuket, were shared by the news Facebook page, Phuket Times, yesterday, November 18, sparking criticism of the foreigner’s actions. Some netizens criticised local police officers for spoiling foreign visitors and anticipated that the foreign man would evade charges by paying only a 500 baht fine. This anticipation seemed justified as police summoned the foreign attacker to the police station to pay the 500 baht fine. Channel 7 reported that the incident took place at a Thai-Indian restaurant in Soi Kepsub in the Katu district of Phuket at around 9.30am. The restaurant owner revealed to the media that the foreign attacker punched the employee in the face and then left the scene. The owner said the foreign man later returned to apologise to the victim, and they went to the police station together to settle the matter. The owner believed that the motive was not, as reported by multiple media outlets, a loud customer invitation, but rather that the foreign man was under the influence of alcohol. According to the report on Channel 7, the victim did not seek any compensation from the foreign attacker and did not pursue any legal proceedings against the suspect. An audacious pervert rocked the local community by whipping out his penis in public and began masturbating on a busy road in Pattaya. The brazen pervert blatantly parked his motorcycle and began pleasuring himself in broad daylight, turning the bustling streets into his sordid stage. The outrageous incident was reported at 10pm yesterday, November 18, by a vigilant eyewitness, 36 year old Biew. The shocking scene unfolded near the Panyat Chang intersection in Pattaya City, Nongprue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri Province. Armed with a video clip she secretly recorded, and corroborating CCTV images, Biew brought the sleazy act to light, warning both locals and tourists of the creeping threat lurking on the streets. According to her chilling account, the predator, believed to be in his forties, is a repeat offender. He prowls around on a blue motorcycle, devoid of a traceable licence plate, awaiting his unsuspecting female victims to pass by. Upon spotting them, he brazenly exposes himself and proceeds to commit the vulgar act, filling his targets with fear and disgust. Biew, initially shocked by the recurring incidents, felt compelled to document his lewd behaviour. This time, with her smartphone in hand, she captured the disturbing moments as undeniable proof. Determined to end his reign of terror, she has reached out to the media and law enforcement, urging them to track down the bold flasher whose antics grow bolder by daylight. Her underlying concern for the safety of women and children frequenting the area shines through in her plea for urgent action. She’s calling on the authorities to hunt down this menace and deliver justice, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of those in the area. Channel 3 reported that the police, equipped with Biew’s crucial evidence, are now pouring over CCTV footage, piecing together the evidence needed to put an end to this rogue’s roadside rampage. In a daring daylight heist, a Thai man’s motorcycle was stolen from a bustling city street in Pattaya, sparking concerns about a professional bike theft ring operating in the area. The victim, 29 year old Komkrit Lukrathok, who works at a prominent electronics store, reported the shocking theft of his Honda Wave 125 motorcycle to the Bang Lamung Police Station yesterday, November 18, submitting crucial CCTV footage as evidence. The video footage paints a brazen picture: a tall, slim man, likely with an accomplice, strolls up and rides off on the bike as if it were his own, without a second glance. “It’s clear these thieves are no amateurs,” Komkrit stated, adding that their calm demeanour and choice of a busy area suggest they’re experienced. “They knew exactly what they were doing.” Komkrit’s Honda, usually parked behind a local bank, was taken while he worked his shift, leaving him stranded and frustrated. He hopes local police will take prompt action to track down the bike and put an end to the audacious thefts plaguing the area. “I just want my motorcycle back.” With vehicle theft on the rise, residents are on high alert, waiting to see if Komkrit’s case will shed light on an organised crime network or if it was an isolated, albeit daring, theft, reported Pattaya Mail. A dramatic car accident unfolded in Bangkok as a Honda Civic hurtled across a road divider, crashing into a utility pole and bursting into flames. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of today, November 19, saw a young man and woman narrowly escaping the blazing vehicle. Police Lieutenant Investigator Sangansak Chiamsanguanwong from Bueng Kum Police Station received a report of a car fire opposite the Chocolate Ville restaurant on Prasert-Manukitch Road in the Ram Inthra district at 2.48am today. Firefighters and rescue teams from Bang Chan rushed to the scene to find the Honda Civic engulfed in flames after crashing into the pole. It took them around 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, but not before the vehicle was destroyed, said an eyewitness. “The car was speeding and lost control before it flew over the median and crashed.” The eyewitness further described how the car was travelling at high speed before losing control, hitting the pole, and catching fire beneath the engine compartment. Fortunately, Good Samaritans managed to pull the driver and the female passenger from the wreckage just in time, preventing any serious injuries, reported KhaoSod. Both individuals were transported to Navavej Hospital with minor injuries. Police are waiting for the conditions of the two to improve before interviewing to understand the cause of the fire better. A Thai social media influencer and Bangkok police officers rescued a two month old baby from her abusive 15 year old mother, leading to the discovery of the teenager’s tragic life of rape, drug use and underage prostitution. The social media influencer, Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet, and police officers raided a house in Soi Charan Sanitwong 13 in the Phasi Charoen district of Bangkok yesterday, November 18, to rescue the baby. They successfully rescued the child as the mother was seen fleeing the house with a man. Gun managed to find the woman at about 1am on the same day. She admitted to physically abusing her child and then revealed the full extent of the abuse she endured for years. The 15 year old girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, revealed that she is gay and interested in women, not men. However, her uncle forced her to take methamphetamine, also known as Yaba, and repeatedly raped her. This changed everything in her life. Her aunt knew about the assault but did not offer any help. She forced the girl to sell sex and took all the money. The girl was stressed and had self-harmed many times before. To earn enough money for her aunt, she had to provide sex services to her relatives and locals in the area. She became pregnant and did not know who the father of her child was. She confessed to harming her child due to her stress. The girl claimed that she did not intend to flee from the house when Gun and other officers arrived. She had to leave with a client who already arranged a service. Nevertheless, the girl’s mother gave a different account, saying she took care of the baby and had never let the girl be the breadwinner. The two month old baby is now under the care of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (M-Society), while the girl will return to her studies under the care of Gun. Channel 7 reported that the police would conduct a further investigation into the girl’s claims about drug use and prostitution. Initial investigations revealed that most of her customers were men aged over 50 in the community. By Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ กัน จอมพลัง Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-19
