Police apprehended a food delivery rider at a well-known shopping centre on charges of discharging a gun in a residential area. The 34 year old rider explained that he fired the weapon out of fear of being chased by dogs. The incident led to charges of causing public alarm, resulting in a fine of 1,000 baht. At 3pm on Sunday, November 17, Phruet Jamroonsarn, the Superintendent of Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi province, along with his investigative team, detained Chaiyanarin in the car park of the shopping centre located in Sai Noi district. The apprehension followed an incident where Chaiyanarin was reported to have fired a gun at four houses. During questioning, Chaiyanarin recounted that after entering the alley to deliver food, he was barked at by dogs. Fearing they might chase him, he resorted to using the firearm he had brought, firing several shots in response. “I bought this gun just a week ago for protection when delivering food, as I have been bitten by dogs before, said Chaiyanarin. “I didn’t think it would become such a big issue and I want to apologise to the residents of the alley. I had no intention to intimidate anyone.” The gun, which was a recent purchase, had been intended for self-defence against dog attacks during deliveries. Chaiyanarin admitted having been bitten by dogs in the past, which prompted the purchase of the gun. He expressed regret for the incident, clarifying that he had not intended to cause any disturbance or fear, reported KhaoSod. Initially, the police charged Chaiyanarin with creating noise or commotion that could cause public alarm or trouble, resulting in a fine not exceeding 1,000 baht (US$30). After processing the charges, he was released. By Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of Dailynews Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-19 -

Police dismantled a sophisticated network involved in online investment fraud, apprehending seven suspects and seizing assets worth over 80 million baht. The operation, named Cyber Guardian, was conducted by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB)’s Anti-Cyber Crime Division. Cyber Guardian targeted individuals involved in a criminal organisation that deceived the public through fake online platforms. Seven individuals, 36 year old Saiyan, 21 year old Sutee, 24 year old Papawin, 28 year old Pongpet, 20 year old Ngamsiri, 47 year old Suwannee, and 37 year old Jumei, were arrested under warrants issued by the Criminal Court. The charges against them include participation in a transnational criminal organisation, public fraud, and money laundering., said a CIB spokesperson. “The suspects manipulated the public by convincing them to invest in a fraudulent online trading scheme. Victims were persuaded to transfer money into mule accounts controlled by the perpetrators.” The investigation was launched following reports from victims who were conned into transferring funds through a counterfeit Facebook page promoting stock trading. The total reported losses amounted to 3.8 million baht. Further inquiries revealed that the illicit funds were converted into cryptocurrency, specifically USDT, via the Binance platform and subsequently transferred to various digital wallets. The money was not only laundered through cryptocurrency but also invested in tangible assets, including luxury homes, condominiums, land deeds, and vehicles. This led police to gather sufficient evidence to request arrest warrants for a total of 12 suspects, including bank and crypto account holders, brokers, and money launderers. Cyber Guardian operations spanned several provinces, including Nakhon Ratchasima, Tak, Songkhla, and Bangkok. During these operations, seven suspects were detained, comprising two mule account handlers, two brokers, and three money launderers. Seized assets included a luxury home valued at 27 million baht, two vehicles, four luxury condominium units, multiple land deeds in Phuket, Tak, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, cash exceeding 600,000 baht, gold bars, and various branded handbags. Saiyan and Sutee confessed to opening mule accounts and travelling across the border to scan their faces, for which they were paid 5,000 baht per account. Other suspects refuted the allegations during the investigation. The operation was a collaborative effort stemming from intelligence provided by the Cyber Crime Operations Centre of the CIB. It was reported that the suspects had established a network that included mule account holders, account brokers, and office workers who facilitated operations from a base in Poipet, Cambodia. The investigation continues as police aim to apprehend the remaining suspects and trace additional assets linked to the fraudulent scheme. The arrested individuals are now in the custody of the Anti-Cyber Crime Division for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod. The driver of a white Tesla admitted to reckless driving on a motorway, following a heated argument with his girlfriend, which led to his hospitalisation due to stress. He has accepted responsibility for his actions and vows not to repeat them. Reports emerged on social media yesterday, November 18, of a white Tesla weaving dangerously through traffic on a motorway, eliciting fear among fellow motorists. The car, initially in the left lane, attempted a sudden manoeuvre to the right but was blocked by another vehicle. This resulted in a series of abrupt braking and erratic movements, including reversing and stopping for an extended period. Later, the car’s owner, a lawyer, presented the vehicle to the police for inspection. Meanwhile, the driver, identified as Pitiphat, appeared before investigators at the Traffic Control Centre to face charges of driving without regard for the safety or convenience of others. The vehicle was seized as evidence in the case. In a conversation with reporters, Pitiphat expressed deep remorse, stating that the incident, which arose from a dispute with his girlfriend who was in the car, led to impulsive behaviour. The other driver honked at him, which further agitated him, prompting him to drive aggressively as seen in the viral video. He clarified that he bore no animosity towards the other driver involved in the incident. Pitiphat further explained that the white Tesla he was driving did not belong to him. It was owned by a business associate involved in the used car trade, from whom he had borrowed it. Following the incident, he avoided watching the full video online due to shame and acknowledged the negative impact on his business and reputation. He recognised that he should not have acted in such a manner and vowed not to repeat it. The driver added that he has cooperated with the police and accepted all charges against him, recognising the need for accountability. He admitted that he had never engaged in such reckless driving before. “I have been so stressed that I couldn’t eat or sleep. People have been calling me to insult me, which led to my hospitalisation. I accept that I should have been more mindful and I want to apologise to everyone involved, including the other driver.” He disclosed that the vehicle’s owner was displeased upon learning of the incident and chastised him for his actions. The driver has since turned himself into the police, with charges filed and a court hearing expected, reported KhaoSod. Former Thai boy band star denies 79 million baht fraud allegation Photo via Prachachat A former famous Thai boy band member denied a 79 million baht fraud accusation after a supplier company accused the singer and his company of failing to complete the product payment and also failing to show up in court. A former famous Thai boy band member denied a 79 million baht fraud accusation after a supplier company accused the singer and his company of failing to complete the product payment and also failing to show up in court. Naris Wittayawarakorn, the managing director of the supplementary production company called Thai Jintan revealed to the public that his company sued the former boy band member, Thanatraichat “Chain” Phuchokanan, and his supplementary company called Amado over defrauding. According to Naris, his company transferred the products, worth 85 million baht, to Chain’s company according to his order. Amado’s company initially postponed the payment date, citing multiple reasons for the failed payment. Later, Amado refused to pay the amount, saying the quality of the Thai Jintan’s products did not meet Amado’s standards. Naris said he and his team attempted to demand the rest of the money but Chain refrained from paying. Amado eventually paid 6 million baht to Thai Jintan but the company still had a large amount that needed to be paid. Naris and his team continued to make a call to Chain and his Amado team, seeking payment for the rest of the debt. In one phone call, Chain told Naris that he had only 1 million baht. Naris could take it if he wanted. He said he had only that amount. If Naris did not take it, he had to wait until Chain had enough to pay. Naris decided to file a lawsuit against Chain and his company but he and his wife have been evading the court visit three times already. They cited the health issue conditions and important appointments as a reason to avoid the court. After the story went viral on Thai social media, Chain came forward to clarify the issue saying he, his wife, and his company did not commit any fraud as Naris accused. He tried hard to find the income to pay off the debt, and he covered the debt for almost 100 million baht already. Chain cried during the interview and insisted that he and his wife were innocent. He urged anyone who supported Amado to continue purchasing Amado’s products for him to able to pay off debt. Channel 7 reported that the court summoned Chain and his wife again on, November 18. In a bid to reassure the public, Thailand's Corrections Department has committed to safeguarding the religious rights of Muslim inmates, following the dramatic arrest of Malaysian pop star Eda Ezrin in a significant drug raid earlier this month. Eda, aged 29, and five other Malaysians were apprehended in Narathiwat with 6,000 methamphetamine pills, causing a media frenzy due to their positive drug tests. The Department of Corrections, through a public statement, emphasised that all foreign prisoners, including those practising Islam, retain the right to observe their faith as long as it aligns with prison guidelines. This declaration arrives amidst public concern over the treatment of Muslim inmates within the Thai prison system. The statement highlighted that all facilities are equipped to serve Halal meals using dedicated utensils, ensuring inmates can adhere to their dietary customs. Additionally, provisions for prayer and religious study are made available, with clean prayer clothes and water provided, especially during Ramadan. Muslim inmates have access to volunteer instructors to deepen their Islamic knowledge. Furthermore, prisoners can communicate with family through video calls and messaging apps under consular assistance during designated hours. Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, during a visit to Narathiwat Provincial Prison, reiterated Thailand's commitment to upholding dignity and religious freedom for inmates, despite the ongoing high-profile case involving Eda Ezrin. The Thai authorities aim to balance enforcement of law with the respect for cultural and religious practices within correctional facilities. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-18

In a significant development, former actor Rattapoom Tokongsup has officially resigned from Thailand's Palang Pracharath party. The resignation, effective from November 15, follows his alleged involvement in a high-profile extortion case. Paiboon Nititawan, the party’s secretary-general, confirmed today that Rattapoom stepped down last Friday, with his name subsequently removed from the party's membership list. The case, according to Paiboon, is a personal matter for Rattapoom and unrelated to party affairs. This case has stirred conversation and controversy, particularly given the profile of the accused and the nature of the crime. The extortion case involves another suspect, Krit-anong Suwannawong, who appeared in court today. She faces allegations alongside Rattapoom for demanding approximately 20 million baht from an iCon Group executive, known as “Pancharat”. The extortion was purportedly to secure an appearance on a prominent talk show. Krit-anong also reportedly extorted 750,000 baht from the iCon Group’s CEO, Waratphol Waratvorakul. Krit-anong, expressing her concerns and pleading for fair treatment, took to Facebook last night. She emphasised her intention to face the allegations while asking for leniency regarding her children's social treatment amid the scandal. She strongly denies all charges, a sentiment echoed by Pol Maj-Gen Suwat Saengnoom of the Central Investigation Bureau. With Rattapoom's political ties severed, this development marks a turning point in the ongoing investigation, attracting significant media attention and public interest. Top Cop Dethroned: Surachate Hakparn Loses Appeal Over Dismissal File photo for reference only Disgraced Deputy National Police Chief Surachate Hakparn's petition challenging his dismissal has been rejected by Thailand's Supreme Administrative Court. Disgraced Deputy National Police Chief Surachate Hakparn's petition challenging his dismissal has been rejected by Thailand's Supreme Administrative Court. This may bring Hakparn's illustrious yet controversy-riddled career, spanning more than thirty years in the police service, to an abrupt end. The 54-year old officer, affectionately known as “Big Joke”, was the prime candidate to assume the position of the national police chief just last year. Despite being younger than his rivals, his climb to the rank of Deputy Police Chief first amongst them bolstered his candidacy. However, his association with an illegal online gambling network caused his downfall. Hakparn refuted these allegations, contending they were part of a strategy to block his ascent to the top position. Subsequently, the Police Commission opted for the least senior candidate, Pol General Torsak Sukvimol, to occupy the role. Born to humble beginnings in Songkhla Province, Hakparn graduated from the Royal Police Cadet Academy, enhancing his education with a master's in criminology and justice administration from Mahidol University and a doctorate in public administration from Eastern Asia University. Over his career, Hakparn was promoted to various roles, including the head of the Tourist Police and the Police Cyber Taskforce, a position that catapulted him into national attention. Despite enduring numerous allegations of bribery and malfeasance, Hakparn persisted, earning him promotions and recognition. Following a tumultuous return to the force in 2021, he reclaimed his reputation and was advanced to deputy national police chief. However, a bitter internal feud with Torsak and his subsequent connection to the online gambling scandal dashed his aspirations for the national police chief's position. Although Torsak resumed his role post-scandal, Hakparn faces a legal battle against his dismissal. While the official verdict remains to be announced, the court’s ruling appears to represent the end of the line for Thailand’s once-rising star. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-18

A Thai man expressed concern for his wife’s safety after she went missing following the financial stress linked to an investment loss with the iCon Group and a dispute with the husband. The 36 year old man, Sila, shared a video of his six year old daughter crying for her missing mother on social media before appealing to Channel 8 for assistance in locating his wife, 31 year old Phatcharin. She vanished from their home in Prachin Buri province on November 11. Phatcharin was last seen at 12.20pm at a bus terminal in the Kabin Buri district of Prachin Buri. She boarded a coach heading to Nakhon Ratchasima and has not been seen since. Sila admitted to arguing with Phatcharin about their financial difficulties and family expenses before she left. She was also reportedly distressed over her investment loss with the iCon Group. The missing woman’s husband revealed she has not yet filed a complaint against the group and was concerned she would not recover her money. The iCon Group is under investigation for operating a suspected Ponzi scheme that allegedly caused losses exceeding 2.9 billion baht, according to Thai PBS. Sila revealed that Phatcharin invested more than 100,000 baht in the company. In addition to financial stress, Sila admitted that Phatcharin lost trust in him due to a previous affair. However, he claimed the relationship ended. On the day of her disappearance, Sila collected their daughter from school and returned home to find Phatcharin missing. He described his daughter’s daily distress, as the two had never been apart since her birth. Sila disclosed that a friend of Phatcharin mentioned she expressed a desire to rest in Nakhon Ratchasima. He visited her grandmother’s home in the province but found no trace of her there. A check of Phatcharin’s bank account revealed that she withdrew approximately 10,000 baht from an ATM. Sila said he planned to seek assistance from the bank to locate the ATM, hoping it might provide a clue to her whereabouts. He urged anyone with information about his missing wife to contact him on his mobile number, 092-326-1232. By Petch Petpailin Photo via MGR Online Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-18

Son demands probe after father’s injuries at Thai care centre Picture courtesy of KhaoSod A son is distraught after finding his father with swollen eyes and bruises while under the care of an elderly care centre. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1343925-son-demands-probe-after-father’s-injuries-at-thai-care-centre/ -
A son is distraught after finding his father with swollen eyes and bruises while under the care of an elderly care centre. Staff at the facility claimed the injuries were inflicted during an altercation while changing the father’s diaper. However, the son suspects the injuries are more indicative of assault and has filed a complaint with local police for a thorough investigation. Supaksak Thalek, a community development officer in Bang Kung subdistrict Municipality, Suphan Buri, brought his father, 73 year old Nakon Thalek to file a complaint with Police Lieutenant Nawaphon Chamcharat at Suphan Buri Police Station. Nakon had been staying at a care facility for the elderly in the Suphan Buri district when his son noticed bruises and swelling on his father’s face and eyes. The family sought police intervention to verify whether the injuries were caused by an assault. Supaksak revealed that his father had previously suffered a stroke, which led to memory loss and left him bedridden. Due to work commitments, Supaksak had placed his father in the care of the facility, paying a monthly fee of 18,000 baht. His father had been there for just over a month when the incident occurred. On the afternoon of November 12, staff at the facility informed Supaksak that the previous night, an altercation happened while they attempted to change Nakon’s diaper. The staff claimed Nakon resisted, leading to a scuffle where he allegedly attacked them first, resulting in an eye injury. Chaos ensued The staff further stated that in the ensuing chaos, someone inadvertently scratched Nakon’s face and shared a photo of the injuries via a messaging app. Initially, Supaksak thought the injuries were minor, as depicted in the photo. However, upon visiting his father, he was devastated by the severity of the bruises and swelling, which appeared more like a result of physical assault rather than a simple scratch. He requested to review CCTV footage from the facility, but staff claimed the cameras were online and did not record footage. Additionally, Nakon’s dementia meant he could not recall the incident. Supaksak spoke on the incident, commenting on the lack of care from the elderly care facility. “My family and I have discussed this, and we cannot accept the situation. We feel sorry for my father and want the truth about what happened. If it was just a scratch, it should not have resulted in such severe bruising. “Personally, I do not want this issue to be overlooked. It should serve as a warning that care facilities for the elderly and bedridden patients must employ staff with patience, not those who resort to violence against patients or the elderly.” Supaksak expressed disbelief over the incident and the handling of it by the care centre. He clarified that he is not seeking financial compensation but rather an understanding of the true events. If misconduct is proven, those responsible should be held accountable to prevent similar occurrences. Following the incident, Supaksak relocated his father to a new care facility. Despite this, Nakon remains in poor health, with a fever and swollen, bruised eyes. The family has taken him for a medical examination at Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital, with results expected within a week, reported KhaoSod. Thai man’s bewitching romance scam, casts spell on victims - video Photo via KhaoSod Two Thai women are seeking justice for themselves and other victims after a Thai man allegedly ran a romance scam, cast black magic spells and swindled money from them and others. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1343924-thai-man’s-bewitching-romance-scam-casts-spell-on-victims-video/ -
Two Thai women are seeking justice for themselves and other victims after a Thai man allegedly ran a romance scam, cast black magic spells and swindled money from them and others. The two victims, 27 year old Kasamon and 29 year old Phitchaya, sought help from non-profit organisation Saimai Survive to facilitate legal action against the alleged romance scammer, identified as 32 year old Bank. During a press conference today, November 18, with Saimai Survive and several media outlets, the two women revealed that Bank flirted with each victim and tricked them into financially supporting him, leading to losses amounting to several million baht. Kasamon recounted her relationship with Bank, explaining that they met on a dating application in October 2019. Throughout their five-year relationship, Bank claimed to work as a military doctor at a hospital in the Bangna neighbourhood of Bangkok. Kasamon frequently dropped Bank off and picked him up from work, offering him financial support for his daily living expenses. In total, she spent over 1 million baht on him. Unable to tolerate the financial strain any longer, she ended their relationship. Phitchaya, another victim, revealed that she had been in a relationship with Bank for six months and faced similar issues to Kasamon. Bank claimed that his superiors had not approved his salary and requested financial support, promising to repay her but never did so. Black magic suspected Phitchaya ended the relationship in September after discovering Bank was having affairs with other women. At his ordination ceremony, she met two suspicious women whom Bank’s mother claimed were his secretaries. However, Phitchaya later discovered that the two women were also Bank’s lovers and that he was not a military doctor. When she asked to break up with him, Bank allegedly refused and threatened to harm her if she persisted. Phitchaya also shared the video when she argued with Bank to the public. In the video, Bank pushed Phitchaya onto the sofa, ordered her to sit still, used vulgar words with her, and threatened to hurt her more. The two victims also expressed suspicions that Bank cast black magic spells on them. They recounted that he took them to a ritual at a religious site in Saraburi province. During the ritual, they had holy threads tied to their wrists and gold leaves placed on their foreheads. After the ritual, the women reported feeling trust in Bank and believing everything he told them. Once they cut the threads, they claimed they felt free and realised the harm Bank caused. The founder of Saimai Survive, Ekkaphop Lueangprasert, revealed that after discussions with the victims, he discovered that most of them were medical professionals. Bank reportedly targeted women in this profession, possibly due to their high incomes. No details have been provided on the next steps of the foundation or the progress of legal action against the alleged scammer. By Petch Petpailin Photo via KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-18

In the most thrilling ride of her life, a Thai woman was left gobsmacked when a luxury Porsche showed up for her ordinary Grab booking. The surprise pickup, which has since become an Internet sensation, was all thanks to the driver’s usual vehicle being in the shop, leaving him to earn points in style with his flashy substitute. TikTok user @babybabe_88, known as Bam, took to the platform to reveal the jaw-dropping incident, complete with a video capturing her astonishment. It all happened around 2am, today, November 18. when she was returning from a jaunt in the trendy area of Thonglor. Awaiting her usual ride outside a bustling shopping haunt, Bam got a call from her driver, only to be told he was pulling up in a black sedan. Little did she know, this “sedan” was a swanky Porsche. A quick double take and Bam managed to spot the sleek car, much to her disbelief. Despite the unusual circumstances, complete with the car’s suspicious lack of a registration plate, Bam decided to give it a chance, noting the driver’s details matched the app’s info. The driver himself was as unassuming as any typical Grab driver, casually dressed and polite, reported KhaoSod. Curiosity piqued, Bam quizzed him on his choice of vehicle. As it turned out, his actual ride was a humble red Nissan Juke, but with it being out of commission, he opted for the more enchanting Porsche, proving that sometimes, even prestige gets practical. From Thonglor to Huai Khwang, the journey zipped by without a hitch, costing her a mere 174 baht, standard fare but an extraordinary experience. Not one to miss a twist, Bam documented the surreal ride to her friends’ amazement, challenging stereotypes about Grab drivers’ backgrounds. Bam’s boisterous adventure underscores a tale of unexpected glamour in the ride-sharing world, proving yet again that you never know what surprises the road might have in store. After all, as this encounter shows, people from all walks of life might just enjoy a lap on the service circuit, luxury wheels and all. In a rescue drama fit for the big screen, a ten year old autistic boy and his would-be saviour found themselves ensnared in a nail-biting predicament yesterday afternoon in Phuket. The daring rescue unfolded at a construction site in Wichit, near Naka Weekend Market, where a mundane renovation turned into a life-or-death situation. The chaos kicked off when the youngster, exploring as he often does near his home in Baan Borrae, accidentally plummeted into a perilous seven-metre-deep well. His 30 year old father rushed to the scene but instead of hauling the boy out, ended up trapped alongside him. Cue the heroes from the Kusoldharm Foundation, who arrived at 12.30pm, yesterday, November 17, and sprang into action with a plan to bail out the narrow, water-filled, 1-metre-wide pit. After nearly two gruelling hours, both the boy and the man were hoisted to safety. The boy, bleeding from a head injury and needing three stitches, was whisked away to Vachira Phuket Hospital for treatment and kept under medical watch for 24 hours. According to the boy’s father, the lad, who is non-verbal and has autism, often wanders around the premises.
