  2. Two foreign men, believed to be French nationals, reportedly attempted to extort 2,000 baht from a Thai tourist in the Patong area of Phuket on Monday. The Thai victim shared his shocking experience on Monday, October 28, with Phuket Times to warn other tourists and to urge action from the local police. The victim revealed that the incident took place on Sai Gor Road in the Patong sub-district on Monday night. He explained that he parked his motorcycle on the left lane of the road to answer a phone call. While he was on the phone, two foreign men approached him on a black motorcycle. One of them tapped him on the shoulder and demanded 2,000 baht in cash. According to the Thai man, the foreigners then threatened him and appeared as if they were about to harm him, prompting him to quickly ride away on his motorcycle. He stated that he was frightened but had to compose himself to escape from the foreign suspects. The victim believed that the two foreigners were French nationals due to their accents while speaking English, although he was not entirely certain of this assumption. He expressed confidence that he was not the first victim of these two foreigners, deducing from their actions and body language, which displayed no signs of fear or hesitation. The man urged anyone who had experienced a similar situation to come forward and share their accounts to warn others. The victim added that he had never known or expected the Patong area to have become a dangerous place and a haven for foreign criminals. Many online commenters asked the man to share any dashcam footage from his motorcycle as evidence, while others urged him to file a complaint with the police and seek security camera footage to support his claim. A Thai woman commented that she had previously witnessed a group of Russian nationals begging for money on Phuket’s beaches and attached a video of the alleged suspects. Another Thai man claimed in the comments section that some French nationals in Phuket regularly carried knuckledusters and other weapons, with some even possessing illegal firearms. 4. Police have yet to take legal action against two foreign motorcyclists who were caught on video riding dangerously down a main road in Phuket. A Thai motorist who witnessed the reckless actions of the two foreign riders yesterday, October 29, recorded a video of their traffic violations and shared it with Phuket Times, today, October 30. The news page shared pictures and videos of the foreigners with a caption that read… “Two foreigners in Phuket caused chaos on the road. They lifted the wheels of their motorcycle along the way on Wiset Road in the Rawai sub-district, heading towards the Chalong Intersection.” In the images and a video, the alleged foreign motorcyclists can be seen performing wheelies in the right-hand lane of the road. Many cars and motorcycles followed behind them, and a black pickup truck trailing the riders had to brake suddenly when the two lifted their wheels. According to Thai law, motorcyclists are required to ride in the left lane on all roads. These two foreigners also violated traffic regulations by performing dangerous wheelies. Following their violations, the two may face imprisonment of up to three months, a fine ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 baht, or both, according to Section 43 of the Land Transport Act. As of now, the police have yet to intervene or investigate the matter. One Thai netizen commented that she had seen this pair earlier near the Banzaan Intersection in the evening on the same day and even wished they would crash their motorcycles to learn a lesson. Another Thai man claimed that the black pickup truck seen in the video was in league with the two riders, with people in the vehicle filming the wheelies for the motorcyclists. A Thai woman remarked that although she did not often travel in the Rawai area, she witnessed dangerous driving by foreign motorists every time she visited. In a related incident, a Russian man crashed his black pickup truck on a road in the Kathu area this morning, October 30. Pictures shared by Phuket Times showed the road was wet from recent rainfall. The accident occurred on a dangerous curve of the road, which officials had painted red to warn motorists to slow down. The Russian driver managed to escape the accident uninjured and was seen using his phone outside his overturned vehicle. 6. A Thai woman caught stealing snacks from a shop in the central province of Chachoengsao claims that she did not mean to steal, and only wanted to prank the shop owner. The owner of a local grocery shop in the Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao, 53 year old Supaporn, called Bang Pakong Police Station to arrest the 42 year old thief, Jaruayporn, at her store yesterday, October 29. Supaporn did not expect theft, as Jaruayporn was one of her regular customers. Supaporn explained that Jaruayporn arrived at her shop on her motorcycle and ordered a bottle of beer. Supaporn then went to get the beer from a fridge inside her home. When she turned back, she spotted Jaruayporn dropping packs of snacks on the ground. Jaruayporn then picked up the snacks and placed them in the basket of her motorcycle. Supaporn suspected that the snacks were from her shop and decided to ask Jaruayporn where she bought them. Jaruayporn insisted that she bought them from somewhere else for her children. With her suspicions aroused, Supaporn asked her daughter to check the security camera, and the footage clearly showed that Jaruayporn stole snacks from the shop. She attempted to take them to the motorcycle while Supaporn was getting the beer but accidentally dropped them on the ground. Jaruayporn initially denied the theft but was forced to surrender to the evidence. She did not give up on her attempt to evade the charge, claiming that she indeed took the snacks but only to prank the shop owner. She planned to return the snacks and reveal her joke to Supaporn later. Supaporn was not convinced by Jaruayporn’s claim and demanded that she pay 1,000 baht in compensation. Jaruayporn had no choice but to pay the requested amount to avoid adding a criminal record to her profile. Even though the two managed to reach an agreement and settle the compensation, the police recorded Jaruayporn’s criminal act and made her promise not to steal from any stores again. Jaruayporn did not face any legal charges for her failed theft. By Petch Petpailin Photo via Channel 7 Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-10-30

  8. Police issued a warning to a perverted 19 year old Thai teen who engaged in a video sex phone call and masturbated in a bathroom of a shopping mall in the central province of Chai Nat. A shocked shopping mall visitor alerted staff members today, October 30, after witnessing the teenager, identified only as P, masturbating in one of the toilets within the mall’s bathroom. Mall staff then called the Mueang Chai Nat Police Station. The witness reported to the police that he was washing his hands when he saw the naked teenager through the mirror. The deviant reportedly left the door open while he was completely naked and masturbating during a video call with a man. Officers went to the bathroom and found P had locked himself in one of the toilet cubicles. Despite police requests to open the door, P remained silent. A shopping mall security guard decided to climb into the adjacent toilet and saw P hurriedly putting on his clothes. P eventually exited the toilet and spoke with the police. He confessed to masturbating in the bathroom, claiming that he left the door open because the bathroom was empty when he entered. Police requested to inspect P’s phone but he refused them access, claiming there was nothing of interest. Officers insisted on checking and found numerous pornography videos on his phone. P maintained that he did not secretly record anyone in the bathroom and that all the porn videos were downloaded online. P stated that he simply masturbated with his boyfriend via video call. He explained that he was unable to do so at home due to inconvenience and chose to perform the perverted sex act at the mall. Officers determined that P was still young and had not caused any damage or harm to anyone. As a result, they issued him a warning, notified his parents of his explicit behaviour, and released him without pressing charges. In a related incident reported on October 23, a Thai man was caught masturbating on his bicycle outside a woman‘s home in the Isaan province of Udon Thani. The perverted man reportedly continued his explicit behaviour despite numerous locals walking past. The homeowner told Matichon that the man even stared at female pedestrians and spent over two hours masturbating outside her home. This man remains at large, and his identity has not been disclosed. 10. Renowned Thai chef and owner of Michelin-starred restaurant Jay Fai Pratu Phee denied rumours of her retirement, clarifying that it was a misunderstanding. The 81 year old street food legend also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Thailand to try her food. Recently, multiple media outlets reported that Supinya Jansuta, better known as Jay Fai, planned to close her Michelin-star restaurant, due to exhaustion and rising ingredient costs. Reports also claimed that Jay Fai was willing to share her recipes with anyone interested. Many Thai food enthusiasts expressed shock and disappointment at the news, including the Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The PM mentioned yesterday, October 29, that she had not yet had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant, which has made a name for itself in the Thai culinary scene. The PM insisted that she and her friend would queue up to try Jay Fai’s signature dishes before the closure. She noted that there are still many renowned restaurants in Thailand and the government is ready to support them as part of the country’s soft power. The 38 year old Thai premier also urged reporters to recommend delicious dishes and must-visit restaurants that she should not miss. In a surprising turn, Jay Fai stepped forward yesterday to refute the rumours. She asserted that she had never planned to close her restaurant next year and suggested that the news arose from a misunderstanding during her recent collaboration with the United Nations (UN) to raise funds for refugees. Misunderstanding Jay Fai explained that multiple ambassadors attended the event and asked whether she planned to retire at her age. “There is a project in my mind. It seems the media misinterpreted this as a project or plan for retirement.” The project the Thai culinary queen referred to involved multiple collaborations with foreign countries such as France and South Korea. She emphasised that she could not stop cooking as she still had many projects to participate in, and she was happy working 15 hours a day. According to Jay Fai, she now has enough time to rest as her restaurant closes three days a week, opening only from Wednesday to Saturday. Nevertheless, Jay Fai confirmed that her daughter will not be continuing the business, as she has other plans. The Michelin-starred chef also extended an invitation to PM Paetongtarn, expressing her delight that the PM wished to try her food. The restaurant owner urged the government to establish walking streets, allowing restaurants to showcase their recipes and attract more foreign tourists to the country. Jay Fai left a message for aspiring restaurant owners, encouraging them to study food thoroughly and put their hearts into their businesses. 14. In Kui Buri, a nearly one-tonne female gaur was found deceased in a pineapple plantation, believed to have died from injuries likely inflicted by a male gaur. The location, positioned about five kilometres from Kui Buri National Park, lies in a designated military safety zone. Local reports state that a farmer discovered the decomposed carcass, prompting an investigation by forestry officials and a veterinary expert. The mature female was estimated to weigh between 800 and 1,000 kilogrammes and had injuries suggesting a violent confrontation. Although no external wounds were immediately visible, wart-like lesions and internal bruising confirmed a serious altercation. Without signs of metal objects suggesting human interference, it was determined that the injuries matched the horn span of a male gaur, likely indicating a natural territorial dispute. Experts, led by Nopporn Akkamanee and Anurak Sakulpong, concluded that the gaur died approximately five days prior to discovery. To mitigate any risk of disease transmission, officials recommended that the carcass be buried on-site. The head has been retained for further analysis. The incident is officially documented with Pran Buri Police, ensuring a thorough record of this wildlife encounter. File photo for reference only -- 2024-10-29

  16. In a recent strategic meeting, the Finance Ministry of Thailand has indicated plans to propose an increase in the inflation target range for 2025, shifting it from the existing 1-3% to a new 1.5-3.5% range. This move, supported by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, is aimed at granting the central bank more flexibility in managing monetary policy. The discussions, held between high-level officials from the Ministry and the Bank of Thailand, are part of their annual talks to set monetary policy directions. Raising the target inflation range would allow the central bank to consider lowering policy interest rates effectively, echoing the recent cuts by the Federal Reserve. Although a significant reduction, like the Fed’s 50 basis points cut, might be viewed cautiously, a modest 25 basis points deduction could still offer substantial relief. Amidst these developments, the central bank's monetary policy committee has already adjusted rates in response to economic needs. This recent move aligns with efforts to ease household debt pressures and stimulate economic growth. The final decision on the inflation target will proceed through a meticulous review process before Cabinet approval, marking a proactive step towards aligning Thailand's fiscal and monetary strategies for the coming year. 18. A Thai man accused a famous lawyer of deceiving him by hiding his Ducati motorcycle to avoid its repossession by a finance company for her gain. This alleged deception ultimately resulted in the finance company seizing his home. The 43 year old Thai man, Wisit Pinbankuay, visited the Central Investigation Bureau Complaint Centre yesterday, October 28, to file a complaint against the renowned lawyer, Dhammarat Sarapanya, accusing him of stealing his Ducati motorcycle. Dhammarat is known for his work with a young religious cult leader known as Nice Mind Connection. He also presented himself as a protector of the Buddhist religion, gaining a significant number of followers on his Facebook page, Lawyer Dhammarat: the Lawyer of Legality. In a press conference following his complaint, Wisit revealed that he believed Dhammarat was a skilful lawyer and therefore hired him to handle a legal dispute over his motorcycle with a finance company. Dhammarat charged him 25,000 baht for his services but when Wisit requested to pay in instalments, he demanded 30,000 baht instead. Wisit agreed to the revised fee and granted Dhammarat full authority to handle his case. Subsequently, the court ordered Wisit to return the motorcycle to the finance company and to pay the remaining balance as the vehicle was still under instalment payments. Wisit agreed to comply but Dhammarat intervened. Dhammarat advised Wisit not to return the motorcycle himself, claiming that as an expert in legal matters, he should handle it to avoid potential trickery through document signing. Unjust lawyer Trusting his advice, Wisit left the motorcycle, along with the relevant documents, at Dhammarat’s office. However, to his shock, Wisit discovered a few days later that his motorcycle was being advertised for sale on social media. When he contacted Dhammarat for an explanation, he assured him that everything was under control. Later, Wisit received a call from the finance company informing him that they had not yet received the motorcycle. He was about to contact Dhammarat when he saw photographs of him with his motorcycle on social media. Dhammarat was allegedly using the motorcycle as if it were his own. Wisit attempted to retrieve the motorcycle to return it to the finance company but was unsuccessful. The court eventually issued a seizure warrant, allowing the finance company to repossess his home in Bangkok in place of the vehicle. Wisit, unable to bear losing his family home, was forced to take out a loan to secure it. He lost a significant amount of money resolving the situation and demanded that Dhammarat take responsibility for his actions. Dhammarat, however, maintained his innocence, asserting that he had all the necessary documents to prove his case. He also announced his intention to countersue the President of the Santi Pracha Dham Foundation, Tankhun Jitissara, and the founder of the Be One Organisation, Panida Palamart, who accompanied the victim to the complaint centre. Dhammarat accused Tankhun and Panida of insulting him by calling him A-Dham Lawyer which means unjust. By Petch Petpailin Photo via Detective News Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-10-29

  24. Pattaya City Hall witnessed an unusual protest today, as vendors from the Thepprasit area market petitioned the mayor, citing unfair treatment by the market owner. The vendors are burdened by a stringent new rule demanding a daily attendance or facing a substantial 1,000 baht penalty for each missed day. Traditionally operating three days a week, the market's schedule has been expanded to seven days, but without corresponding adjustment in rental fees. This abrupt shift has compounded their challenges, particularly as luxury item sellers, who usually depend on specific days with higher customer flows. Their frustration has grown due to failed communication with the intransigent market owner. The vendors approached Deputy Mayors Wuttisak Ruemkijjagarn and Kritsana Boonsawat in hopes of intervention. Pattaya City's task force, specifically the legal department dedicated to consumer protection, is now occupied addressing the situation. The vendors have detailed their demands: adjust fines equitably, re-evaluate rental fees in line with extra operating days, and provide a more sustainable timeframe if daily operation is non-negotiable. As negotiations stalemate with market management, the vendors see Pattaya City as a potential peacemaker. They hope the city's involvement will lead to a fair compromise, reinforcing equitable market practices. The outcome remains pivotal in setting a precedent for vendor treatment and operational fairness within the city's commercial spaces. File photo for reference only -- 2024-10-29
