Former Prime Minister of Thailand, Somchai Wongsawat, has attributed his success in getting to the final of the Senate election to the continuous support from his wife. He arrived at the Impact Arena in Mueang Thong Thani to participate in the election, during which he clarified misconceptions that he was already selected to head the next Senate. Rather, he explained, he was running in the administration and security group, which is made up of former government employees. Somchai started his political journey in Chiang Mai, where he was successful at the district and provincial levels. He admitted that the competition was intense in his group and that the backing from his peers was crucial to his triumph. When asked if he would run for the position of Senate speaker, Somchai said he hadn't put it into consideration. He expressed sincere thanks to his wife, Yaowapa Wongsawat, for staying by his side during the campaign period. He also dismissed the idea that he was reliant on his brother-in-law, ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, for emotional encouragement. When pushed on his possible aspirations to be Senate speaker, Somchai remained reserved, "I can't say now, let me be elected first." Election Commission Faces Criticism for Not Keeping Livestream Promise File photo for reference only Yingcheep Atchanont, who is the head of the Internet Dialogue on Law Reform (iLaw), has criticized the Election Commission (EC) for not following through with its commitment to livestream the final voting stage of the senatorial elections. Yingcheep Atchanont, who is the head of the Internet Dialogue on Law Reform (iLaw), has criticized the Election Commission (EC) for not following through with its commitment to livestream the final voting stage of the senatorial elections. Atchanont stated the EC had previously ensured viewers could track the voting procedure live via CCTV from the voting halls. However, he pointed out that the broadcast had no sound, inhibiting viewers from keeping up with the process. Additionally, the footage only offered a single unchanging view, making the process unclear for observers. Atchanont also highlighted that even though there were 20 CCTV cameras set up in the voting rooms, none were used for live streaming, causing confusion and frustration. The situation was made worse by the high number of people, around 1,000, who came to watch the senatorial elections. The observation rooms were too small to fit everyone. The EC's promised live feed was supposed to rectify this issue, but its failure only escalated the problem. A delivery driver, who is addicted to the drug Yaba, was accused of inappropriately touching a woman while working at a motorcycle showroom in Udon Thani, a province in Isaan. The woman refused a settlement offer from his wife and was determined to pursue legal action. The 28-year-old woman, named Fon, reported the incident to the local police station, Mueang Udon Thani, on June 25 at around 10 am. The suspect, Tum, 34, was delivering motorcycles and spare parts to the showroom with another colleague when the incident occurred. Fon said that Tum approached her from behind while she was in the storage room with another female coworker and touched her inappropriately. Tum then walked away nonchalantly after Fon confronted him about his actions. When Fon spoke with Tum's manager, she found out that the manager is also Tum’s wife. Tum's wife offered Fon a sum of 1,000 baht to let go of the matter, but Fon insisted on taking legal action. A coworker of Fon’s, 24-year-old Wijitta, testified to the police that Tum frequently made inappropriate remarks to the female staff about their relationship statuses. The police brought Tum in for questioning. While Tum admitted to being under the influence, he denied intentionally assaulting Fon. However, a drug test on Tum detected methamphetamine, also referred to as Yaba, in his system. As a result, Tum faces charges under the Narcotics Act for drug use, with a punishment of up to a year in jail, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both. Additionally, Tum has been charged with sexual assault with the specific legal consequences yet to be determined. Mystery Surrounds Village's Potential 90 Million Baht Lottery Winner File photo for reference only There's a buzz of rumors in a Nakhon Phanom village after an online post claimed a local woman won a 90 million baht lottery prize. The post, shared on June 25, told a story of a woman who found out she had won the jackpot after her son found five lottery tickets, each worth 30 million baht, in her purse. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1330806-mystery-surrounds-villages-potential-90-million-baht-lottery-winner/ -
There's a buzz of rumors in a Nakhon Phanom village after an online post claimed a local woman won a 90 million baht lottery prize. The post, shared on June 25, told a story of a woman who found out she had won the jackpot after her son found five lottery tickets, each worth 30 million baht, in her purse. The post also stated that the woman already cashed in two of these tickets, garnering 60 million baht, and plans to cash the remaining ticket on her birthday, June 30. Despite the buzz, the village headman, 59-year-old Prajit Silasak, has doubts. He raised concerns that such a massive win could have stayed secret for two years. Also, he noted that being aloof doesn't help the lottery winner in gaining believers. Prajit plans to check on the woman's house to confirm the legitimacy of the lottery win. Prajit expressed his and other residents' disbelief, including the woman's relatives. He also emphatically contradicted the claims about the 60 million baht withdrawal. According to Prajit, even the district head of That Phanom had to inquire about the rumor. Police officers drive by her residence to hopefully resolve the circulating gossip. Also, creditors who she owes money to are keen to confirm the story, as they believe they could collect their debts if the lottery win is true. Prajit also said the woman has previously claimed to own 111 oil wells in Saudi Arabia, which her husband allegedly owns. Moreover, she often annoys locals by playing loud Buddhist sermons early in the morning. To verify the rumors, Prajit, together with several reporters, visited the woman's house. However, her third son, right on the scene, mentioned his mother was away in Bangkok, advising that it's best to wait until her return to avoid potential misunderstandings. Reports also revealed an outstanding issue with her water supply, possibly due to unpaid bills. One relative stated if the woman had indeed won this amount, it's puzzling why she has not withdrawn the full amount yet, given that the story dates back two years. The relative added that the woman is a bit of a loner and often claims to have a prestigious job at an airport, although, no one knows where. The woman also frequents white clothing, symbolizing devoutness. Finally, her neighbor, 72-year-old Yaithiang Thitdaeng, stated she doesn't believe the woman has won the lottery. Yaithiang speculated that perhaps the woman is just seeking attention. In conclusion, skepticism continues to cloud the village as the supposed lottery win mystery gradually unfolds. A suspect in the murder case of a 20-baht shop owner has handed himself in at Khon Buri Police Station. The victim’s family, deeply distressed, is awaiting the chance to confront the accused, particularly the father who wants to understand his motives. The event took place in Khon Buri District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province when the suspect walked into a 20-baht general store. Tosaporn, the 27-year-old owner, woke up and tried to catch the intruder which led to a physical conflict. The accused, holding a knife, stabbed Tosaporn seven times, causing fatal injuries before rushing away. Tosaporn’s girlfriend and his 59-year-old father, Somporn, went to the Khon Bur Police Station after learning that the suspect’s mother was bringing her son to hand himself over to the police. Upon finding out about the suspect’s surrender, Somporn rushed to the police station, eager to see who was responsible for taking his son's life. He expressed a deep need to face the accused, to ask why his son was killed and even admitted that he wished he could hit the suspect once to ease his anguish. “I won’t accept an apology because my son is no longer around. Saying sorry can’t bring him back. We treated him well and he was a beacon of hope to our family. He was hardworking and he supported the family, but his life was ended abruptly by a criminal. "The family will have to close and lease out the shop because we have lost our leader. My son’s girlfriend is unable to continue running the shop due to her mental state. I am thankful to the police for catching the suspect promptly.” According to Tosaporn’s girlfriend, Nidnakorn, the accused did not take anything from the shop. She is confused about the suspect’s motives since even the wallet that was next to her sleeping boyfriend was not touched. Nidnakorn reiterated that she and Tosaporn did not know the suspect and the couple were regarded in the village as friendly and hardworking people. The police have now taken the murder suspect, a 23-year-old man from a nearby village, into custody at Khon Buri Police Station. They are presently questioning him to learn more about the case. Several teenagers who were involved in a violent attack on another teen have handed themselves over to the police. The assault happened near a water reservoir in Bua Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima and left the teen victim with serious head and wrist injuries. Yesterday morning, a 16-year-old boy, the son of a local assistant village leader, and his family handed themselves over to the Bua Yai police. They did this after the police had been chasing them all night. Journalists tried to interview the group of suspects but they were quickly led into a pickup truck parked outside the police station. However, one of the suspects responded to a question about the motive behind the attack. Upon hearing about the incident, Tienchai, a 60 year old village headman, came to the police station. He said that the fight started after the victim reportedly threw a homemade bomb at the group, but it didn't explode, which then led to the serious assault. He added that aggressive posts were shared online, stirring up tension. Tienchai confirmed that the attacker, who used a knife, was indeed the assistant village leader's son. He emphasized that there shouldn't be any interference in the police investigation and that the law should deal with the crime. The local community has been left in shock by this incident. It has brought up concerns about youth violence and the worrying role of social media in escalating fights. The victim, a 15-year-old vocational college student, will take a while to recover due to the seriousness of his injuries. This highlights the need for better ways to prevent youth violence and the escalation of online threats that lead to real-life harm. Mysterious dead body mistaken for a doll in Bangkok Canal Image courtesy of KhaoSod The body of a woman was discovered floating in Bang Mot Canal today by a passerby who initially mistook the body for a doll before realising it was a dead person. The body of a woman was discovered floating in Bang Mot Canal today by a passerby who initially mistook the body for a doll before realising it was a dead person. Bang Mot Police Station Police Lieutenant Thanakorn Thammaniramon received a report of the woman’s body floating in Bang Mot Canal, Thung Khru, Bangkok. Police quickly coordinated with forensic doctors from Siriraj Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation to investigate the scene. Upon arrival, police and volunteers found the body tied to the canal’s edge, secured by a concerned citizen. The deceased was a woman, estimated to be between 30 to 35 years old, floating face-up in the water. She was wearing a pink floral long-sleeved shirt and black plaid trousers, without shoes. The woman had fair skin, and long hair, and was approximately 160 to 165 centimetres tall. It was estimated that she had been dead for at least three to four hours. No identification documents were found on her body, only a fruit knife, a room key, and 150 baht in her trouser pocket. A 49 year old nurse, Kasem, retrieved the body. He explained that he and a colleague from a nearby restaurant initially thought the body was a doll. At around 9am, Kasem removed his clothes and swam into the canal. Upon grabbing the hand, he realised it was a corpse and decided to tie the body to the canal’s edge near the health centre. “I wasn’t afraid because I’m a medical professional. The sight of a body doesn’t scare me.” The preliminary examination of the body revealed no visible injuries. The body was then transported to Siriraj Hospital’s forensic department for a thorough autopsy. Police urged anyone with missing relatives to contact Bang Mot Police Station or the forensic department at Siriraj Hospital, reported KhaoSod. The incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies. As police continue their investigation, they seek assistance from the public to provide any information that may help in identifying the mysterious body and shed light on the events that led to her tragic demise. Thai man caught red-handed sexually assaulting 10 year old niece Photo via MGR Online A victim’s grandmother caught a Thai man sexually assaulting his 10 year old niece at her home in the central province of Prachin Buri. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1330801-thai-man-caught-red-handed-sexually-assaulting-10-year-old-niece/ -
A victim’s grandmother caught a Thai man sexually assaulting his 10 year old niece at her home in the central province of Prachin Buri. The 41 year old rapist, Pornsathit, was caught assaulting a young girl in her home on June 22. The girl’s grandmother had left her alone in the house to tend to chores in the backyard. Upon her return, she was dismayed by what she discovered. Pornsathit fled the scene and took refuge in a nearby forest by the roadside. The girl’s mother, Phon, was informed of the assault and hurried home from work to attend to her daughter. Phon called Pornsathit to ask about the assault but he denied his actions even though he was caught in the act. Phon asked Pornsathit to come out of hiding and prove his innocence. Pornsathit obeyed Phon’s order but continued to deny the crime. Phon asked her daughter about the sexual assault but she also denied it. Angry and stressed, Phon grabbed a wooden stick to beat the girl in a bid to get the truth. Pornsathit intervened and allegedly admitted to raping his niece. He claimed that he harboured romantic feelings for the girl and professed his love for her but the girl’s mother and grandmother remained unconvinced by his claims. The family insisted on taking legal action against Pornsathit, prompting him to flee the house and go into hiding. The family filed a police report but Pornsathit remains at large. Phon told the Naewna news agency that she received a death threat from Pornsathit after she reported the sexual assault to the police. She believes Pornsathit is not afraid of being imprisoned and dared to kill her because he was arrested and imprisoned before. She hoped that the police would successfully arrest him as soon as possible. The girl was medically examined at the hospital and was found to have signs of repeated rape. The girl revealed to her mother that her uncle had raped her twice before the most recent act. She did not dare to reveal the assault to anyone because her uncle threatened to kill her whole family. An 80 year old woman gathered mushrooms from beneath a bamboo grove and placed them in front of her house, unaware that her granddaughter would later use them for cooking. Fifteen minutes after eating, five family members experienced severe vomiting and chest tightness, prompting a rush to the hospital. The incident occurred yesterday, June 25, when the family consumed the mushrooms, leading to immediate and severe reactions. The family members, who were taken to Kabin Buri Hospital, included three women named Jamnong, Eiad, and Wilaiporn, along with two others who were admitted to a different building within the hospital. All five individuals were related and had together eaten the mushroom soup made from the gathered mushrooms, said Jamnong. “After eating the mushroom soup, we started feeling chest tightness, throat blockage, difficulty breathing, and severe vomiting continuously.” Today, doctors reported that all five patients are showing signs of improvement but will remain under observation at the hospital for another one to two days to ensure full recovery. The medical staff at Kabin Buri Hospital are closely monitoring their condition and providing necessary treatment. Jamnong explained that after preparing the mushroom soup, she called her four relatives to join her in eating the meal. Shortly after, they all began experiencing severe symptoms, prompting immediate medical attention. It was only later that they realised they had consumed toxic mushrooms. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Khian Hom-on, the 80 year old woman who collected the mushrooms, had picked them from under a bamboo grove beside her house on the afternoon of June 25. Khian noted that the mushrooms resembled oyster mushrooms, as they had blossomed and showed signs of insect bites, reported KhaoSod. Believing they were edible, she gathered a handful and intended to ask her daughter-in-law, who is experienced in mushroom foraging, for confirmation. However, her daughter-in-law was not home at the time, Khian said. “When I went back outside, I didn’t know who took the mushrooms. I later found out that my granddaughter had used them for cooking, leading to the mushroom poisoning incident.” By Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger 2024-06-26 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

Pattaya ladyboy tricks woman into prostitution with fake debt claim Photo via KhaoSod A Thai ladyboy and her gang members tricked a woman in Pattaya into prostitution, claiming she had a 120,000 baht debt and had to sell sex to repay it. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1330798-pattaya-ladyboy-tricks-woman-into-prostitution-with-fake-debt-claim/ -
A Thai ladyboy and her gang members tricked a woman in Pattaya into prostitution, claiming she had a 120,000 baht debt and had to sell sex to repay it. The victim, 22 year old A, shared a video of when the 21 year old ladyboy, Kae, and her gang brutally assaulted her outside her Pattaya condo on June 22. She shared the video to seek justice, as the gang threatened further attacks but Mueang Pattaya Police Station officers have not updated her on any developments. A explained that the issue began when Kae kidnapped and detained her at a tattoo shop in Soi Rung Land, Pattaya. Kae seized A’s ID card and mobile phone, claiming a loan shark hired her and her gang to abduct A and collect a 30,000 baht repayment. Kae told A she would only get her belongings back after repaying the debt. If A had no money, she would have to sell sex to cover the debt. A, scared and unsure how to repay, complied. A claimed that she did not borrow 30,000 baht from the loan shark; it was borrowed by her friend. However, A’s name was on the debt guarantee, so she had to settle the debt on behalf of her friend. A explained that she managed to repay the debt after working as a sex worker for four days. Nevertheless, Kae demanded an additional 5,000 baht. A chose to give Kae the money to secure her freedom and resolve the matter. No repayment made Unfortunately, the matter did not end there. Kae claimed A had another 90,000 baht debt and had to continue selling sex. A revealed that she and her ex-boyfriend borrowed 90,000 baht from another loan shark a long time ago. A returned to prostitution, servicing over 10 customers daily, mostly foreigners from the US, India, China, and South Korea. She received no share of the service cost, only small tips from customers for personal expenses. A managed to clear her debt within a month, but she feared that Kae would not release her. Consequently, she escaped and sought refuge in a condominium. Kae and her gang located A’s condo and assaulted her, an incident captured on video. Fortunately, a security guard from the condominium reported the assault, prompting police intervention. However, Kae and her accomplices managed to flee. A directly contacted the loan sharks, questioning why harassment and assaults persisted despite her repayment. To her surprise, the loan sharks disclosed they had not received any payments from A. A realised that Kae and her gang had deceived her, keeping all the money she had paid. A complained to Mueang Pattaya Police Station, but there has been no progress. Kae continues to harass and threaten A, claiming connections to high-ranking police officers and showing no fear of arrest. No justice has been served, and the police have yet to indicate if charges will be pursued. A Thai hotel owner took to social media to expose the behaviour of a foreign man who stole a key to her hotel in Chon Buri and stayed there overnight without permission or payment. A video of the Thai woman arguing with the foreigner was shared with news Facebook page Social Hunter 2022. The page shared the video yesterday, June 25, with a few words to accompany it. “This foreign man is known as Sam. He used to be a guest of this hotel but this time he stole a room key and stayed without paying. Hotel staff called the police to arrest him on June 24 but no officers arrived. Immigration Bureau officers apprehended Sam the next day and plan to deport him.” Channel 7 reported that the hotel owner and staff tried to make the foreigner leave but he locked the room door and did not respond to their calls until the next morning. The hotel owner had to ask permission from a guest staying in the adjacent room to enter and speak with the man on the balcony. In the video, the foreign man is seen on the hotel room balcony defending himself but his words are inaudible. The hotel owner shouted at him in Thai. “I chased you away last night but you didn’t leave. Get out! I’m not okay. I couldn’t sleep all night because of you. What the f*ck is wrong with you! Get out now! I called the police but no one came to arrest you!” Neither the news Facebook page nor Channel 7 clarified how the foreign man stole the key or his motive for the theft. A violent altercation erupted in Pattaya when a local teenager, angered by a perceived slight, stabbed an outsider. The victim was attempting to help a friend when he was attacked. The police are actively pursuing the suspects. At 3.06am today, June 26, Chaowalit Suwanmanee, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police, received a report of a stabbing incident at Pattaya Beach, opposite Soi Pattaya Beach Seven, Moo 10, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri Province. Police patrol units, investigators, and rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation promptly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, a scene of panic greeted the police. Tourists appeared shocked and distressed. On the pavement, they found 19 year old Jesada suffering from a severe knife wound beneath his right breast. Blood was pouring from the injury. Rescue workers provided immediate first aid and urgently transported him to the hospital. Witnesses described the assailants as two slim, teenage males who fled the scene on a motorcycle. Jesada recounted that he and his friends were relaxing by the beach when one of his friends went to buy beer. Observing the suspects behaving aggressively, Jesada approached to aid his friend. Without warning, one of the teenagers drew a knife and stabbed him. Supapit, a 22 year old friend of the injured, shared more details. She and her group had come from another province to celebrate a birthday in Pattaya. While they were sitting on the beach, her boyfriend went to ask where he could buy beer. He encountered the two teenagers, who questioned him about staring at them. In response, he told them that if they were drunk, they should go home. Unexpectedly, the situation escalated, and Jesada, attempting to help, was stabbed, reported KhaoSod. Chaowalit initially ordered a radio broadcast to intercept the suspects along potential escape routes, but so far, the suspects remain at large. Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage in the area, hoping to track down and apprehend the perpetrators to face legal consequences.
