A 17 year old Thai girl accused a spiritual medium in the Isaan province of Buriram of raping her and sexually harassing her friend while performing rituals to wash away bad luck and evil spirits. The teenager, 17 year old Bee, revealed to the public that she and another friend were victims of sexual abuse by a 60 year old spiritual medium, Chatpong Jomkarnnon, also known as Ar Kong. The rape victim’s mother, 36 year old Gai, did not believe her story because she respected Chatpong and believed in his supernatural powers. Thai netizens criticised Gai for being superstitious and pressured her to file a complaint against Chatpong. Due to the pressure, Gai, yesterday, November 14, took her daughter to the Mueang Buriram Police Station, even though she still did not believe her daughter. Gai explained that she respected Chatpong and often visited his compound to attend various ceremonies. She took her daughter there and the spiritual medium told her that her daughter was about to experience an unfortunate event. Gai said Chatpong recommended that her daughter take part in the ceremonies to ward off evil spirits and bad luck and she allowed her daughter to do so. The ceremonies were performed in a pickup truck and she was not with her daughter. Gai revealed that her daughter told her that she had been raped three times in the pickup during the ceremonies. She did not believe her words because Chatpong was not that kind of person. She wanted to see the results of the medical examination. The results later backed her daughter’s claim, showing traces of rape. A suspicious object resembling a homemade bomb was discovered today in front of a school in the Nakhon Ratchasima province. Authorities quickly intervened to inspect and safely dispose of the object, suspecting it was created by teenagers planning to use it during the Phimai Festival. The police station in Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima, received a notification from a member of the public about a suspicious object under a tree in front of the Special Education Centre, Education Area 11, Nakhon Ratchasima. The police unit 191 of Phimai Police Station was immediately dispatched to the scene. The object, a round device wrapped with black electrical tape, was found under a tree. Upon inspection, the police discovered that the device contained a mixture of cement, stones, gravel, and concrete debris, indicating it was intended to be a bomb, however, it was no longer functional. Police officials speculate that the object was created by teenagers for potential use during the Phimai Festival. Multiple checkpoints were established by the police as a preventive measure against potential disruptions at the festival. Upon encountering these checkpoints, the teenage group likely hid the device to avoid detection. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has finally brought some clarity to the source of funding for the controversial digital wallet handout scheme, but many aspects of the scheme remain problematic, raising questions on whether it would see the light of day. Srettha, who is also the finance minister, announced on November 10 that the Pheu Thai-led coalition government planned to borrow 500 billion baht to finance the digital wallet scheme promised by his party during the election campaign. The government would propose a bill to Parliament for approval, an extra borrowing bill apart from the routine borrowing to finance expenditures under the annual budget expenditure for fiscal year 2024. The concept of having Chinese police patrol with Thai counterparts in Thailand has met with a mixed reaction with those in Pattaya expressing support. Rumpueng ‘Lisa’ Hamilton, president of the Pattaya Night Business Association, said that she agrees with the idea, as she believes that it would build up confidence for Chinese tourists in terms of safety. “When I talk to my Chinese friends, they express concern about their safety and possible conflicts with Thai police while visiting Thailand. Thai police might group them together with other Chinese who are involved in illegal activities in Thailand,” Rumpueng said. She believes that the presence of Chinese police would help clear up possible misunderstandings and suppress the illegal activities by the Chinese. Meanwhile Jitsupa Prajongbua, a Thai tour guide, said that it would give the Chinese tourists more confidence in their safety, adding “I am confident that more Chinese tourists will visit Thailand if the concept is implemented.” Caption: File photo : Chinese tourists enjoy their time in Thailand.
