  1. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has announced the launch of an ambitious project that will deploy hundreds of agricultural drones across 500 local communities. The initiative, known as the 1 Tambon 1 Digital project, is a collaboration between the ministry and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA). According to Minister of Digital Economy and Society Prasert Jantararuangtong, the project is designed to increase efficiency and productivity among Thai farmers by providing them with advanced drone technology. The initiative aligns with the national plan for mobilizing the Thai digital economy and society, focusing on digital safety, security, and maximizing human capital. To support the farmers, DEPA will subsidize 60% of the drone costs, while communities will contribute the remaining 40% through low-interest loans or village funds. In cases where communities cannot afford a loan, the agency will supply a vehicle, contingent on the high demand for drone usage in the area. To ensure efficient use of these resources, communities must meet certain criteria, including training representatives in drone operation and obtaining a drone operator’s license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. DEPA President Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin said the agency has allocated about 200 million baht for drones, training, and a maintenance center. Within a year, they expect to establish 50 service centers nationwide, training 1,000 participants in drone operation and 100 in maintenance. The project aims to cover at least 4 million rai (1.58 million acres) of agricultural land and is projected to generate an economic value of at least 350 million baht in its first year. 3. PARIS (NNT) - The 42nd session of the UNESCO Commission for Communication and Information, held in Paris, France, commenced its two-day event on November 13, emphasizing the enhancement of global communication and information accessibility. The session highlighted the prominent role of Thailand in UNESCO’s communication initiatives, represented by Sudruetai Lertkasem, Deputy Director-General of the Public Relations Department (PRD), and Kavi Chongkittavorn, a mass communication expert and member of the UNESCO Communication and Information Committee. Ukrainian delegate Mykola Movchan led discussions on the first day, focusing on the progress made under the International Program for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and the Information for All Program (IFAP) for 2022-2023. The discussions underlined the alignment of national efforts with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with particular attention to media literacy, crisis communication, and fostering multilingualism to accommodate diverse cultural groups. The PRD’s innovative approaches to media literacy and fact-checking were recognized, largely through its "Real News Thailand" initiative. This initiative reflects the inclusive communication policies advocated by Thailand’s Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Puangpet Chunlaiad, aiming to reach all societal groups and enhance public media awareness. Future projects and budget allocations for 2024-2025 have also been deliberated, with a focus on promoting freedom of expression, ensuring the safety of journalists, and enhancing public skills in digital technology and media literacy. The allocations, which underscore UNESCO’s commitment to diverse and inclusive global development, will prioritize African countries and small island developing states, followed by Arab countries and the Asia-Pacific region. 22. An unusual trail of Naga tracks was discovered near a pond at the back of the Wat San Pa Teung Wana Ram temple in Phra Bat, Mueang, Lampang yesterday during the Kathina (a Buddhist festival) celebrations. Villagers and a famous financial company jointly donated Kathina robes at the temple. The unexpected sight of these mysterious marks, believed by locals to be left by a Naga, a serpent deity, drew a crowd of curious onlookers. The peculiar marks, which appeared to be dried clay tracks resembling a crawling animal, were found leading up the Naga staircase near the statues of Grandfather Anantanakaraj and Mother Ya Usa Thevi Naga. The strange discovery was made in the early morning by the temple’s monk, Thit Khunok, who showed the captured images on his mobile phone to relatives. An elderly woman, while attempting to light a candle as an offering, started to tremble uncontrollably, triggering a ripple of excitement among the other villagers present. She revealed that she had dreamt of a massive snake the previous night, and upon hearing about the mysterious Naga tracks at the temple, decided to witness it firsthand, which led to her unexpected reaction. The taxi driver filed a complaint at Thayang Police Station in the southern province of Phetchaburi after his female passenger stole his vehicle. The driver recounted that the woman, later identified as 38 year old Jirat, hired him for a round trip from Bangkok to Phetchaburi province for 3,000 baht on November 10. When arriving at a hotel in Phetchaburi, Jirat expressed her interest in him and wanted to have sex but he refused.
