  1. Phu Soi Dao National Park in Uttaradit province has been temporarily closed, effective today (Monday), for the safety of visitors due to the risks of possible flash flood and mud slides. The order to close the park was issued by the park’s chief, Pharuit Jaitaskul, citing continuing heavy rain, strong winds and mud slides along the nature study trails in the park, as a result of the moderate south-westerly monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand in conjunction with a low pressure cell over northern Vietnam and southern China. The temporary closure of the park will last until the situation returns to normal. 7. A Thai woman sought protection after a man, claiming to be a rescuer of the Daan Samrong Municipality in Samut Prakanr province near Bangkok, asked for sex in return for a snake capture. Claiming to be a rescuer from the Daan Samrong Municipality, a man approached A, offering assistance in catching the reptile. However, his ulterior motives soon came to light when he made a shocking demand: sex in return for his “services.” Frightened and concerned for her safety, A promptly complained to Samrong Nuea Police Station on August 3. Armed with screenshots of her conversations with the perverted snake rescuer, she handed over crucial evidence to the police. It all began on August 2, when A spotted the snake inside her home and reached out for help by dialling the hotline 1677. In response, three individuals from the Daan Samrong Municipality arrived at her house, supposedly to rescue her from the slithery intruder. Alongside them, a group of teenagers, whom A believed to be rescue volunteers in the area, also joined the search for the snake. However, their combined efforts proved futile as the creature remained elusive, and they all departed. 9. Should a revered monk’s remains be accessible to their disciples, even allowing them to physically touch the relics? Following an unsettling incident at a prominent temple in Nakhon Pathom province, online public debate has sparked regarding the appropriateness. The controversial event happened while followers were changing the cloth covering a mummified monk, who had left his physical form 18 years ago. The incident gained wide attention when Parry Pairoj Wannabut, a prominent Buddhist commentator, posted her critique on Facebook concerning this disturbing episode, questioning the ethicality and respect towards a deceased teacher. Sanook reported on her comments. “Is it really appropriate? Taking the mummified body of a respected teacher, letting family and disciples touch and poke, especially when they are women. Can’t we see the ethical problem here? Don’t we feel any shame when we tell others that we are Buddhist police?” “Preserving the body of a respected teacher for worship, I can understand, albeit it blatantly contradicts the teachings of Buddha, specifically the contemplation of the impermanence of the body as indicated in the Tripitaka. But if we decide to keep them, we should consider appropriateness very seriously. Respecting and honouring the physical remnants of the monk after his demise, spreading images that do not appear pleasant — even in the case of ordinary individuals, there are laws to protect them.” Many comments flooded her post soon after this. The majority seemed to be expressions of agreement that monk’s remains should not be touched. 13. Religious blessings and the luck of the lottery are two common targets for sceptics. But one Thai woman is a believer, after performing rituals to the Thai deity Thao Wessuwan and subsequently winning the lottery for what she says is the fourth or fifth consecutive time. On the morning of July 3, at Wat Noen Suk (also known as the Wat La Ok temple) located in Khao Din-Khao Chamao Road, Rayong province, 62 year old Chan was accompanied by 66 year old Narong to offer a blessing ritual for Thao Wessuwan. Before receiving her blessings, Chan pledged Thao Wessuwan and asked for her lucky numbers. The experienced professional dancer offered two Lanna songs and lit 5,000 sparklers. The latter attracted avid gamblers who quickly noted the last digits of the sparklers, which were 44 and 979, and the prayer’s candle numbers, which were 784 and 691. Following her previous successes in the lottery, which she claimed to have won three to four consecutive times after the blessing ceremony, she once again sought favour from Thao Wessuwan, the god said to lead all the ghosts and demons. 15. Prompting concerns over the integrity of education, the Thai Bureau of Higher Learning, Scientific Enquiry, and Research Innovation (MHESI) have launched legal action against around five online portals that have been found dealing in academic plagiarism. The move comes following suspicions that close to 100 scholars linked to 33 universities may have obtained research papers from the Internet. The Deputy Secretary of MHESI, Supachai Pathumnakul, reported that an investigation of 109 scholars for alleged academic plagiarism has been set in motion. Yesterday’s update showed evidence of nine academics having bought research manuscripts from cyberspace, whilst another 21 have been exonerated thus far. “We are carrying out investigations on the rest.” The alarm was sounded when a cluster of university lecturers emerged, churning out research works outside their expertise, all within a remarkably short period. This prompted orders from the authorities for these 33 nationwide universities to probe into the originality of their faculty’s work. The Deputy Secretary expressed disappointment in the lackadaisical attitude of eight of these universities towards identifying the issue. He urgently called upon educational institutions to speed up the investigation process and apply stern sanctions to those found involved in academic plagiarism. 22. Bangkok governor inspects Phadung Krung Kasem canal in response to complaints of stench BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials have inspected Phadung Krung Kasem canal in response to complaints of a foul stench from the water. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1302582-bangkok-governor-inspects-phadung-krung-kasem-canal-in-response-to-complaints-of-stench/
  23. BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials have inspected Phadung Krung Kasem canal in response to complaints of a foul stench from the water. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt inspected Phadung Krung Kasem canal, accompanied by his deputy Wisanu Subsompon and personnel from the BMA’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage. The team was inspecting the reported stench at the canal, in accordance with public complaints. Chadchart explained that City Hall needs to reduce the water level inside canals in Bangkok in the rainy season so these watercourses would be able to accommodate rainwater and prevent flooding. With significant amounts of water having been drained from Phadung Krung Kasem canal, sludge at the bottom of the canal started to emit sulfur, giving rise to the stench. The governor said vessels operating on the canal also stir up the sludge, exacerbating the issue. However, City Hall still needs to drain water from canals to prevent floods. According to the governor, the BMA constantly checks on the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) reading of water in canals. The reading indicates the dirtiness of the water, and the reading for Phadung Krung Kasem canal most recently stood at 9. Chadchart said that to comply with standards, the reading needs to be below 20. However, draining of water from canals would cause this reading to deteriorate because of the sludge coming closer to the water surface. The governor thanked the public for providing information and input on the matter, adding that the BMA and relevant agencies will seek to make improvements. He noted the stench might have been caused by excess water draining, as City Hall was worried about floods. ชัชชาติลงพื้นที่คลองผดุงฯ แจงเหตุน้ำ ส่งกลิ่นเหม็น 1:55 0:00 1:55 Ins....นายชัชชาติ สิทธิพันธุ์ 1:45 0:00 1:45 MOR03086610 By Tanakorn Sangiam Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230804123646755 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-08-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
